I haven't played much LoR but from what I understand, Poisoned just deals 1 damage. If it takes 1 damage at the end of the round, and it loses poisoned at the start of the next round then it will just take one damage and stop being poisoned. So, what is the point except to activate Cassiopeia?
First off, Poison doesn't exist in game yet--part of Kinxil's proposal includes creating this new mechanic.
Second: I kinda like it. You are correct that it is just 1 damage, but it's 1 damage that the unit's owner anticipates. Sometimes that makes a big difference--i.e., if I'm on the attack with a 3/1 and I know you have this card, its probably better for me to attack then to let you ping it off for free. Or: I can play reservedly and try to get you to commit to poisoning it now before I attack. Which brings me to the only thing I dislike about this card/mechanic: a 1-mana burst is way too easy to play, so it doesn't set up much interaction either way. In the aforementioned example, I'm probably going to attack regardless because there's not much I can do to disincentize you from spending 1 mana at the end of your turn to take 3 attack of my board, and since you know this you're going to hold on until off on casting until after my attack so you not only get to chump block my 3/1 but also get 2 more damage into my other surviving units too. Contrast to if it was 2 mana for 2 poison damage, or 1-mana but limited to combating units: lots tougher decisions on both sides of the board.
This year for the first time we had a mid-term expansion, so new announcements could be delivered later than usual - because we are not really starving for them this time, not yet.
I really like the world building around champions in this game, I mean in league you got the champion.. and that's it you don't really feel like they have so much influence themselves.. but runettera give them allies they work with and organizations they belong to, looking forward to more champions to have interesting followers! can easily see police enforcers for vi or thugs for urgot..
merfolk for nami or pirate crew for gangplank..
also I really like the design for the crimson crew it fits them to be emo/punk.
We definitely got a great set of finalists and a lot of good cards that didn't make the cut as well. Won't mention my favourite as I would just jinx it.
Don't forget to vote everyone, it's looking like it's going to be a close one!
well, it's pretty general comparing to the other freeze mage, but mainly, this one is a bit harder, because of the quest thingy.
I could swap Kalecgos (main purpose is for board control) for Arcane Intellect if deck is behind the tempo, or you need that fast draw.
Mulligan for Discover Spell, always take freeze spells by any chance.
Quest can be finished together later, it doesn't have to be finished ASAP. When you have all the necessary cards, just play the Sorcerer's Apprentice along with all the summon copy spell cards, by that and spell discount of 3 or 4, the Quest itself will be completed automatically, opening your way to extra turn on the same turn you complete it.
Archmage Antonidas should always come later, since he needs 7 mana. But by the time you had the extra turn, it's already a win.
Totally fair to be happy that most of these cards leave standard. As sad as I am to see probably my favorite card of all time leave standard, it's nice to have a fresh new coat of paint on the format and have to go back to essentially ground zero (if we ignore the Year of the Dragon cards) when it comes to what decks are possible. That and Zilliax makes me sick to my stomach as you just throw him in any deck and most likely he will have a positive win-rate in it so I'm happy to see Boomsday leave.
As a quick aside, I find it funny how different Boomsday looks now than it did when it first launched. The set used to be mocked for having only 'viable' card in the form of Giggling Inventor, yet now has a large chunk of its cards seeing some form of play, with one of them being one of the strongest cards ever printed. While obviously the buffs played a role in this, I still find the whole scenario interesting.
Standard without [Hearthstone Card (Ziliax) Not Found]? But...But what else am I supposed to play on t5?!?
Regarding Whizbang the Wonderful, I'm calling it now: SN1P-SN4P is gonna take his Place in Boomsday Project and he will become Part of the Classic Set.
To be honest I was disappointed by hunter cards this expansion. Corrosive Breath looked awesome and seemed to hint towards some poisonous theme or something related to Emeriss..
Rotnest Drake is great and Diving Gryphon is useful but I really wanted an alternative Emeriss like what they did with Ysera and Alexstraza or I would've loved a legendary dragon with a fun effect but instead we got Veranus.. Equality on a stick! Yay!
Glad you like the bio, although I should probably right more for it now that the article is live.
As for why there is no Leeroy, it just felt redundant a lot of the time. There is already a lot of face damage in just the invokes and so the only time Leeroy really did Leeroy things was when he was hit off of Galakrond's battlecry and then copied with Inner Rage and Bloodsworn Mercenary for a truckload of damage. I have been thinking about putting either him or a [Hearthstone Card (Korkron Elite) Not Found] (as a 1 of) In replacement of Battle Rage since two seems a bit excessive.
Favorite champ ? Eh Cassio I guess. I put her in Shurima tho cuz I hate Noxus :D. Beware that I'm shit at balancing stuff.
Poison : A poisoned unit take 1 damage at the end of the round. Cannot be stacked. The unit is poisoned until the beginning of the next round.
Noxious Blast is also a standalone spell (much like mystic shot).
Note that Cassio Evolved effect apply when the unit become poisoned, so she doesn't kill 1 health poisoned unit upon evolving.
Evolve condition is based on the enemy units dieing while being poisoned (regardless of what killed it, it just had to be poisoned by the time it died).
I love midrange stuff so I kinda designed her to be a defensive unit preying on low cost units.
I haven't played much LoR but from what I understand, Poisoned just deals 1 damage. If it takes 1 damage at the end of the round, and it loses poisoned at the start of the next round then it will just take one damage and stop being poisoned. So, what is the point except to activate Cassiopeia?
kaladin my man, if you can craft the mistwraith damacia shadow isles fearsome deck. it was a cancer deck along with elusives pre nerf and now its back again with a different region (damacia, before was ionia) along with elusive decks aswel. check out this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYT3BDpiXzE
you can see in that video description links to his twitch and website where he writes about the tiers of the meta.
overall this game is very well balanced, and altho it can attract some portion of HS players the actual game is quite different. top decks is a thing of all card games, and we have been on the bad end practically as much as on the good end of top decking. problem is some ppl like you are very impressionable which means u are gonna notice a lot more times when u are being dicked by rng than when being helped by it.
the other explanation would be that u are very unlucky. just dont play bad decks and then say ur opponent got good draws. in LoR drawing 2 cards per "turn" makes the top decks more probable specially when they run consistent good decks. oh and by now, ppl have the collection to get a good deck even in bronze. some ppl just spent way too much time on expeditions and unranked just to farm cards and enter rank mode kinda of late, so expect decent decks despite the bronze rank
Hm, I didn't actually know the interaction worked that way, so that was just a misinterpretation on my part. I always remember trying to compare her to The Curator, but I suppose the difference in playability comes from Curator having Taunt while Countess is just purely a tempo loss.
I never really played LoL, but this seems like a fun exercise regardless. Here's my take on Pyke:
What is the point of "grant me elusive this round"? i dont recall anything that would matter for him to have it anywhere but during attacking, so it might as well just have elusive, which makes the ability a bit weird. Other than that, seems interesting.
I guess if you are not atacking, then you are not elusive, thus you wont trigger level up, so is it designed like that solely for the lvlup condition?
Yeah, it gates the level up a little bit, but it also prevents him from blocking elusive units, which is relevant for the leveled up version (the kill condition is separate from attack, though there's no good way to show that with the card creator I used).
I suppose what is most tricky for me is the mulligan - for instance, I'm unsure when to keep/mull Mystic Shot.
Again: watching streamers is great for this stuff.
In general: you want early minion damage. The 3 critical cards I mentioned are all great early-game drops. Pay attention to whether you're attacking on odds or evens because that affects which cards you want to keep. I think you only want to keep the Mystic Shot to answer an early Teemo or Zed; most of the time, you'll rather have a unit which can attack face a few times and use Mystic Shot / Get Excited! on your last turn to hit face. The biggest decision is when to open attack versus when to play additional units: you need to do the math to see what happens if you attack as-is, and then guess what will change if you play another unit but give them a chance to play a blocker. Sometimes that risk is worth the potential reward of playing an additional attacker; sometimes its not.
I never really played LoL, but this seems like a fun exercise regardless. Here's my take on Pyke:
I do really like the thought of "when I kill, Rally"--it reminds me a bit of HS Gonk Druid. But I fear your numbers are way overstat'ed--challenger elusive regeneration would be busted on its own for 3 mana before even considering the ability to challenge a low-health unit and rally.
Yeah - Pyke isn't supposed to be able to gain life (which is why my leveled up version only gains attack). If I had a reasonable way to template that on the card, I probably would. Really, I want him to be able to pick off one or two tiny units in a turn, but as is, you're right that with a burst speed health buff he'd be massively OP.
?
You know the little red bottle icon on your L2 means regeneration, right? So as-is, your Pike will be healing to full at the end of every round as soon as he attacks twice. That combined with challenger means he'll basically delete any opponent unit with <=2 attack every round indefinitely without the aid of a buff, and with buff he turns into Final Boss Mode.
Without the regen or elusive, I could see it working. 5/3 challenger is still pretty good, but at least it will die after an attack or two without intervention. He starts to look more like a cross between Fiora and Katarina: game-winning with the right support, but you DO need the right support.
