2. That's not exactly the same. If bounce back and replay or resurrect the copy from hand, it'd have the text.
Minions can't remain silenced while in hand. If you use Spellbreaker on a Bone Drake and Sap it, the card will still have the deathrattle. Under the current mechanics of the game, your card wouldn't work the way you intend it to.
We also didn't use to have minions with buff in the hand, yet here we are
I think this a neat product for them to put out and I'm probably going to have to pick up a couple of packs to play with. I really can't wait for this to be available on Arena though! My real question is if when it comes to Arena we'll get to keep the cards from the packs or if it'll be more of a for-fun thing.
If anybody thinks they wont support the rotated cards are out of their minds. Every digital card game has supported a format for older sets. Even the new Magic Arena introduced a new mode for it.
The fact they havent said anything is related to the obvious reason that for 1 they havent decided on their various options and for 2 its because the game hasnt even been official released. Every major decision will be made only after the mobile release. Apparently 75% of HS revenue has been from mobile. That says a lot. They will evaluate their options better after mobile release
No one thing can make the game relevant for 10 years. I mean, think of how many “things” were necessary to make the game relevant for just a few years. 10 years is a LONG time in gaming.
If we’re going to assume that “10 years” is not just hyperbole, then they must be talking about a new mindset or strategy. It remains to be seen whether that mindset applies to esports, the F2P model, the fundamental game, or something else.
(For example, you pointed out that “Discover” did not make them relevant on its own. But Discover came out of their design approach that mixed strategy, randomness, and mechanics that depend on digital cards. THAT made them relevant for the first few years of the game’s existence.)
My money is on the 10 years thing being hype. But if you want to make guesses, think about more fundamental things than a single new mechanic or feature.
A new class would be revolutionary. I honestly have no idea how it would be done. But if they were to add a new class they would probably add only one and see how it works. Adding 3 new classes all at once would be so chaotic and hectic.
True. I am assuming they do something like Hearthstone where there's a less popular / less curated eternal format where players can still use their older cards, but I guess they aren't ready to officially commit to that yet.
But the cards are still usable in some format of those other games. I never said anything about stopping rotation or cards remaining in standard forever. I'm just saying whatever happens, they need to allow for continued use of cards people have paid for, or else stop taking money for cards.
He said that cards will rotate out eventually--i.e., that it won't be eternal. He didn't commit to any timeframe. With the notable exception of Yu-Gi-Oh, every competitive collectible card game I can think of that's more than 3 years old--MtG, Hearthstone, Pokemon, Netrunner, even HeroClix if you want to count that--has adopted some form of rotation that takes older cards out of the main format to make space for new sets. This is more a tacit acknowledgement of the inevitable than a statement of caveat emptor.
It'll be interesting to see how Runeterra eventually handles its rotations. I've only seen how Hearthstone does it and I'm aware some card game veterans aren't too thrilled with the approach. Also, do we know if the set of cards we're using now will be considered "evergreen" or "core"?
Oof, missed that. I just assumed they wouldn't be using the Year of the Dragon characters for a while (AKA focusing on something new), but reprising the structure seemed like a no-brainer to me. Not a huge negative, though; the expansions before last year were mostly fine both thematically and mechanically.
While I understand that they'll abandon older cards at a certain point but knowing that there will be absolutly no support for such format is already preventing me to spend cash on the game, since my collection will become outdated sooner or later without (probably) any chance of having at last a vaguely tweaked format. The game is anyway very F2P friendly, but I'm always looking to a "vintage" format that could actually remain at last enjoyable and for which there will be some kind of attention for its balance (not like Wild on HS).
I agree it needs a change. But what you are suggesting would literally kill the game, because everyone would stop buying packs and just go F2P. That is not sustainable. Why buy packs when you can just move your dust around to whatever cards you need for whatever deck you feel like playing. The point of having a collection completely disappears. With <30000 dust, you could play any competitive deck for the rest of the time the game is live. (Which wouldn't be for very long if they followed your suggestion).
the economy issue is a very complex one where you have to think not just about the players, but the profitability of the company. As much as gamers don't like it, we live in a capitalistic society, and blizzard needs to make money too.
I just lost a match after my Yasuo didn't level up when I expected him to. I've always been under the impression that you can mix and match stuns and recalls to achieve his level-up requirement (e.g. recall 3 allies and stun 2 enemies).
However, this match points to the contrary. My deck had a lot of recalls and a few stuns. When my opponent attacked, my Yasuo was at 4/5. I set him to block and then queued the "Stun an attacking unit" spell. However, when battle commenced, my stun spell resolved properly (and Yasuo struck the enemy as he should), but Yasuo didn't level up (and consequently died). The next round, I played another recall effect, and suddenly Yasuo jumped to 5/5 (as I could tell by clicking on my deck).
So I'm wondering: Is it intentional that you have to apply either 5 recalls or 5 stuns? Or was my stun spell not being counted a bug that I should report?
The person who just played their turn usually has more minions, or reversed, the person starting their turn usually has fewer minions. This is doubly true with Reno who always leaves you with 0 mana and an empty board when you play him, so on the first turn your opponent is practically guaranteed to benefit if Reno casts a buff. Add to that mage being one of the less minion-centric classes, and I would expect most buffs to be in your opponent's favour.
If they aren't sure how much support older cards are going to receive, it's not a great idea to accept money for them in the first place.
The time investment isn't a big deal because you're playing the game (and ostensibly enjoying it) as you earn rewards, but paying cash is a different story.
Interesting news for the future of LoR. Let's see what they will do about the old stuff. I would welcome a wild mode like HS or Legacy format like MtG but please with buffs/nerfs for that format aswell so it's enjoyable.
cool to see these are back! The custom card scene really crashed a year ago after the all the drama at the old site. Glad to see we've got a dedicated system for this. I'll give it a shot and see what I think about the interface.

Should hearthstone revamp the dusting system
1/4 for all cards including commons and rares would already be a great thing on the long run.

Both should count.
Do you remember whether you were using Steel Tempest or Yasuo's Steel Tempest? That may be relevant when you report the bug.

This is a great game. Lots of strategy, low RNG. Devs are timely at balance changes and actually buff cards.

Mildly comforting knowing it was one of the bottom 5 scenarios possible ; lucky me ^^
