I love the nerf to Barnes. It's pretty fair. I was just thinking that if they nerf it to 6 Mana, it will kill the card as it is a Neutral card and it's usage is not just in Big Priest.
Even the idea of an Actor token won't work cos it is still turn 4/3 big minion cos it is too early and too fast for the opponent to handle. Hence, the only logical way to nerf it is a 1 Mana increase to 5 Mana.
This would at least prevent the early turn 4/3 auto-concede moment that isn't super frustrating to deal with.
I glad Blizzard did not kill the card like how they killed Naga Seawitch and kept the design of the card.
Sure Resurrect mechanics may still pose a problem. At least now, Big Priest will feel less of a gamble and more like a control greedy deck. Well done!
Your explanation for why the actor idea won't work doesn't make sense. The reason Barnes is insane in big priest is not that he summons a 1/1 with a strong effect, it's that that summoned 1/1 can be resurrected over and over as a huge minion with a strong effect. Removing the ability to resurrect the summoned minion would have changed a turn 4 Barnes into just a good play instead of a game winning play (except if they pull Y'shaarj, in which case they're just lucky), while at the same time letting Barnes be just as effective in non-resurrect decks.
Edit: Forgot to say that the actor nerf would also dilute the resurrect pool, making it even more effective as a targeted nerf to big priest, and in addition it is very flavourful as well.
I disagree it should have been six mana. That's still five mana with the coin, it's still early enough to highroll any game especially with a zeph'd wild growth. I'm sure they tested this at six. Imagine they make it six and it's still broken. You're stuck playing the same meta except mage is even better because priest is nerfed for another month.
People are saying it's garbage at 7 but it's really not. It saw some fringe play in cyclone mage lists at high legend when warrior was played a lot. and that was in Cyclone mage which benefited from the card MUCH less than the current expansions mage decks. This could still be played in reno mage. Sometimes you tutor pocket galaxy from the 8 mana dude and it still wins you the game. It's a huge nerf for sure but it's still playable and probably requires less greedy deck building.
Its a good nerf, the card was a burden on the game and soured the expansion a bit.
Yes you need to draw them but they are cheap enough that if you do they effectively are start of game changes. Any true start of game change would need to give a weak hero power (i.e. nothing stronger than the basic ones) or we'll be back in the Genn/Baku problem.
The thing about the token actor idea I disagree with is that the 1/1 is still a Y'Shaarj or a Rag or a Obsidian or a Lich King or any powerful minion. Sure Resurrecting it only makes it still be a 1/1.
However, the issue is that it is still a powerful late game effect being played in the early part of the game. Also, this idea is heavily targeted only to tone down Big Priest and ignores that Barnes is a Neutral card. This idea will only kill Barnes from being played in other Classes.
If Barnes was a Priest card, I would fully 100% support this idea but it is not.
I made one for fun. Not enough games to tell if it´s at lesat T3 but i guess so. Card draw is weak if you don´t draw Subject. Maybe i need to improve that a bit.
I've been messing around with hunter and came up with an intriguing idea
One of the reasons the class has traditionally gravitated toward aggression is because of the hero power. What if Blizzard introduced a mechanic that changes your hero power at the start of the game?
We already have cards that upgrade or change your hero power, and we have quite a few.
What I am thinking is a mechanic similar to Genn or Baku, where if you have X it changes your hero power. For example, a new rogue legendary could have a mechanic that triggers at the start of the game. I know a lot of people despise those cards and how they shaped decks, but those were neutrals. The new hero power could involve some beast synergy or something.
Wow! So many dislikes for just expressing my thoughts regarding the nerf. It seems that I cannot have a different opinion and MUST conform to the majority's opinion. Else I'm an enemy.
This might not have been the best way to handle the giant+conj interaction, but it's probably the easiest and required the least risk of fucking it up which is fine as long as it gets the job done.
It doesn't kill the strategy but forces it to be more interactive or come out slower. You have to stick the giant, doing the combo from hand comes out a turn later which is hard in the face of pressure.
You can't get this from magic trick anymore also. I feel like the nerf to this in general hurts cyclone / big spell more than reno.
Blizz be like: Let\s butcher this because priest went out of garbage tier for 2 weeks! Meanwhile, let's leave agrro mech hunter bullshit as it was. Also, let's "nerf" control warrior.
Big priest will not care much. All the other classes that also played Barnes will get hit with collateral damage (rip big rogue). Change the 1/1 to be another minion (actor), and just copy the ability (deathrattle, battlecry, end of turn stuff, whatever is the card text, tribe, i do not care).
Are there any plans to add a “latest comments” section on the home page? It’s one of the only things I feel is missing from the home page, and I think it would be good to bring attention to new comments posted on different pages (cards, decks, guides etc.) to encourage discussion on those pages.
Just a thought. I know hearthpwn had this feature, and I always enjoyed seeing what random pages of cards/decks people were having discussions on, and joining in.
I don't think that it makes any change for control warrior. You just play it later. So what. Combination of the battle cry and rotating hero power is the problem. Not the mana cost.
I was running him mainly for fatigue/meme purposes. He’s a card I unpacked but never get much chance to use. I figured it’d be fun to throw him in a meme greedy deck. The only time I used him was late enough in the game that I didn’t have any issues with my Singleton cards being effected. Plus it was a match vs an academic espionage rouge, so being able to reload my deck was very useful. I would have lost that match without him. There’s definitely better options to run, but if you just want some good memes, he’s a great card.
I don't really get why a 2-mana +2/+2 was a problem. There are already cards with the exact same effect (Earthen Might, Mark of the Wild...) with added benefit.
Azure Drake
Was one of the staples, for sure.
Goblins
It would be funny if it did explode ;)
Firelands Portal
Ah, one of the cards that broke Arena for some time.
Five Card Nerfs Coming Next Week Including Dr. Boom, Mad Genius & Barnes!
Isn't Quest Paladin a counter to current Warriors?
Five Card Nerfs Coming Next Week Including Dr. Boom, Mad Genius & Barnes!
at least they didn't nerf classic cards as with the Druid, so I think Mage will still be all right

New Mechanic Idea
You mean like Sir Finley Mrrgglton? Or the new quests? Or Dinomancy?
Yes you need to draw them but they are cheap enough that if you do they effectively are start of game changes. Any true start of game change would need to give a weak hero power (i.e. nothing stronger than the basic ones) or we'll be back in the Genn/Baku problem.

Card Nerf - Luna's Pocket Galaxy
I agree that 6 would have been worth a try.
In general it´s astounding. I can´t remember that changes had been taken back. Luna and exra arms back to there initial costs.
Card Nerf - Barnes

This was probably comming, but I would prefer to see the Mountain Giant hit instead of this. Hope it will still see play.

Card Nerf - Luna's Pocket Galaxy
Aaand it is garbage again. Would be worth to try at 6 mana. I don't like this change.
Card Nerf - Dr. Boom, Mad Genius
I don't think that it makes any change for control warrior. You just play it later. So what. Combination of the battle cry and rotating hero power is the problem. Not the mana cost.
Tunnel Blaster
Pretty bad flavor text. The candles are to protect them from The Darkness, I don’t think anyone thought they wore them just for fun.
Five Card Nerfs Coming Next Week Including Dr. Boom, Mad Genius & Barnes!
It's kind of broken in Wild when paired with Radiant Elemental. Perhaps they were also considering this.
Greedy AF Double-Quester (with story)
I was running him mainly for fatigue/meme purposes. He’s a card I unpacked but never get much chance to use. I figured it’d be fun to throw him in a meme greedy deck. Maybe we will be surprised and Luna's Pocket Galaxy will still see play.
Dr. Boom, Mad Genius will still be a staple in Control Warrior. Deck will be overall weaker against board-based stuff, like Hunter.
Conjurer's Calling is fine at 4 in my opinion.
I couldn't give fewer fucks about Barnes. As I read the comments of Wild experts, the problem was not the mana cost anyway.
Card Nerf - Dr. Boom, Mad Genius
Control Warrior is more than capable of waiting the 2 extra turns for Boom to drop. His new Saronite Taunt Mech dude will keep him covered x2.
