I meant like the loot cards one gets between dungeon run bosses. I was really hoping for a Captured Flag.
Oh ... yeah, see, that was not at all clear from your original post :)
As Almaniarra said, that was never a thing in arena. But also, as AliRadicali said, this could actually be an interesting idea for an event. I dont think it would be easy to implement such a thing into the arena environment permanently, Blizzard has had problems balancing the game mode without any extra stuff added, now if you added treasures on top of that, it would make for a very unfair experience overall.
It is ok to have a bit unfair, but a fun experience for a little while, but as long as the game mode ur playing is a paid one, you expect certain level of professionalism from it, so you are not just playing a lottery.
That being said, i did love the ESL way to draft an arena deck, where you get to pick more cards along the way after every win, but that game plays out slightly differently than HS, so i dont know if it could work out for HS or not, but it could be an interesting experience for sure.
I honestly wouldn't mind this as a temporary arena or brawl format (like the dual class arena at Halloween). Sure, the treasure cards are busted, but so long as you get matched with players with an equal amount of wins the crazy should balance out, right?
I don't play Arena all that much but I'd definitely give dungeon-arena a few runs.
Nice idea but you assembled a 3 card combo that doesn't even come close to win you the game for 10 mana if there is a murloc/mech hybrid deck it could be used maybe but it's not really something you need to rely on, and it doesn't win you the game against most decks..
vs aggro it's too late, vs control/midrange they can deal with it
The thing is, Thief rogue is getting pushed more and more, and they now are able to discover any class card (not including rogue ofc) rather than their opponent's class nowadays, so discovering Dark Pharaoh Tekahn in some sort of lackey/thief rogue isn't entirely unreasonable.
Well. I made a deck to try this out. Started with a mix of mechs and murlocs. That did not work so good, got the combo in one game but did not need it to win.
So then I decided on a full murloc mage package with the extra toxfin. That had a lot more bite, but here the combo comes wayyyy too late. So well. Nice surprise clear but not very competitive.
Bringing back old cards is VERY messy. All it take is one Spreading Plague or a [Hearthstone Card (Firelance Portal) Not Found] to completely gut the balance of a meta, especially since the old sets are meant to be balanced between each other and NOT with future sets. Besides, Standard is meant to be for pulling NEW cards, not the old ones. If I honestly wanted to play with the old sets I would go to Wild.
Myself I very much prefer the method used last set: buff cards from last year's set. It provides more of what you are looking at, is easier to manage since the basic design of the cards are already meant to exist in standard, and if they DO change the meta it's for a very short time (in case anyone didn't notice: Sn1p Sn4p is technically a Boomsday card, so he's gone next year).
If they bring a way to mix old and new cards, it should be entire sets. I'm ALLLL for a new format similar to the brawls where different sets are combined.
Honestly, the last set did a great job of solving the old problems of staleness. By the time we finally establishd a stable meta we were a week into the card release period of Uldun. That was caused by a new set, a nerfing a month in and a buffing the following month. That along with combining the delayed eleaes of the single player and good brawls on top of it and...well.. just moar of that. They can literally lock down the dates, make it a normal thing.
When Twitch was not so popular probably a burnout streamer will be a bad call, but today many streamers do that as a job and HS give a very big visibility considering its numbers so they keep playing it even if they're not enjoying the game anymore. The only thing that matter at that point is if they keep a professional attitude instead of just ranting here and there.
I feel like that should be a nobrainer, if you start acting out, who is gonna watch you? Meaning you lose some revenue stream, so it is in your best interest to keep it together and act professional. And if you are being a dick and ppl just take it, then that is not a streamer problem, that is a community problem that they dont speak up, either literally or with their "money" aka viewership, subs etc.
What do you mean by "loot card"? You will probably have to elaborate on the situation a bit more.
If you havent played arena in a long while and you came back to a 2-0 that said the run is finished, it was cause there was an arena reset couple weeks ago. There will be arena reset every two months or so, ever since Year of the Dragon. They are trying rotating sets and change things up twice per expansion.
There is a known bug that has been there forever, that you actually get arena rewards awarded to your account even before you click on the key and open up the boxes. So if you are paying attention enough and know how much gold you had before you finished your run, you can see the amount is now different and after you open loot boxes, you are not awarded any more gold/dust, cause it already happened.
Now this step most ppl dont even realize happened, but it is very apparent during arena reset. Because when you log in to the game, you notice you might have a pack unopened and maybe notice how much gold you have, so you open your pack, cause you probably forgot about it or something and go about your business. Then you go to arena screen for your rewards and you get nothing. Thats because when you logged into the game, that unopened pack was from the arena reward and any gold/dust was already awarded to you as well, you just didnt know it and now you think something is wrong. Yes, technically something is wrong, but in reality you did not lose anything, you just didnt know you already got it ;-)
If this was not your situation, then sorry for the wall of text :)
While this is not a bad idea, I hate to say that this will never be implemented.
Mainly because it affects tournaments. I don’t think any tournament goer would be enthused about going up against a deck that has some unexpected tools/cards that could totally shift the match
Wild getting new cards in no wise means it isn't fairly static. Both MtG and Yu-Gi-Oh had new cards added to their non-banned list formats as well but the developers didn't try micro managing popular decks in most cases for the sake of changing things that weren't broken in order make said involved formats a mirrored copy of the banned list formats.
You're moving the goalposts from "static" to "fairly static" and you're ignoring the substantive differences I've already pointed out between paper and digital card games: magic or Yu-gi-oh can't just nerf a card so their only options are banlists and multiple formats. Hearthstone has a different design philosophy, a key element of which is keeping things simple and fairly casual, something that pretty much excludes the possibility of 14 different formats with varying card pools and restrictions. Simply pointing out that other games do it that way is a poor argument for why it ought to be that way in HS, and I think that by and large that argument is refuted by the dev team's decisions over the years.
I'm sorry but "a large number of players" hating something means absolutely nothing. Care to provide actual statistics or percentages to tell us what that is objectively supposed to mean? I'll wait while you pull those up. The thing is that I could just as easily do a survey of a random 1,000 HS players and find hundreds of players who hate control decks (even they're just tier 1 or 2) and say the exact same thing that you're saying (that a "large number of players" hate control decks). That doesn't mean it is anywhere near a majority of players.
Preposterous argument. I'm sorry, but do *you* have a list of names of all the players who think G&B are perfectly fine and shouldn't have been rotated out of standard early? Do you have a list of their hair colour and favourite pop songs?
Incomplete information is still information, and the G&B nerf gives us quite a bit of circumstantial evidence to work with. Just because I cannot present you with a quantity or proportion of players who hate G&B doesn't mean you can dismiss the argument. Try again. If you had a survey of 1000 random players you'd have more information and a better argument than you do now. Incomplete information is still better than no information.
You also have to consider the actual regular wild audience more than the standard format audience. We don't go around balancing standard around the wild players, so in the end it is the wild players' feeling towards the cards in the wild format that matter much more than the standard players. Also note that the devs HoFed them because they were a problem in STANDARD, and not as big of an issue in wild. Hell, standard players b*tched and moaned about Odd Mage, of all things, for a period of time. Yet the deck was a vastly inferior version of Reno Mage in wild. Even the Even Lock deck saw considerably less play in wild than it did in standard. Please don't try to say that Genn & Baku were considered as big of a problem in wild as they were in standard considering fewer of the decks saw play in wild AND in wild it's much easier to stabalize against the aggression with some classes (one glaring example being Voidcaller into Void Lord). It's interesting you criticize my assumptions and then try to assert your own baseless assumptions instead, especially when they are picked apart as easily.
I'm well aware that wild has different standards for balancing and a distinct pool of players. I didn't argue that every card that is a problem in standard must be nerfed in wild as well, I said that if a card is so problematic that it has to be HoFed/nerfed in standard it's reasonable to assume that the same logic applies to that card in wild, if not necessarily to the same extent. If Genn and Baku make games extremely predictable and repetitive in standard then it stands to reason the same is true for wild, even if the cards might not be as strong there.
Are you actually going to answer where the evidence is for T5 deciding to nerf Genn/Baku in wild or are you intentionally trying to throw the conversation in a different direction? You can't just say that cards are randomly nerfed at times as a strong indicator that Genn/Baku could be nerfed. It is still out of thin air guesswork with no concrete foundation to stand on.
Your demand for evidence is disingenuous and a non-argument. We haven't had prior warning for previous changes so you can't hold my lack of evidence now as evidence to the contrary. How are you so bad at this? I'm not arguing that we know these cards are going to be nerfed, you're the one insisting that they definitely aren't because "card game experience" and "no evidence" or whatever.
Point out to me how I mocked any person here and I'll gladly apologize.
"Despite your call to ax every thing you find irritating to play with, even when said aggressive decks actually under perform with win rates from more consistent older aggro decks (ie Pre nerf Pirate Warrior), that doesn't mean your personal preference has any meaningful say in what gets removed from the game."
However, I know I did not. I'm all for "mocking" (breaking apart) weak arguments or biased rationales to nerf something when the ideas are deserving of it. If you say a non-tier 0 deck should be nerfed, and all the reasons you provide for that argument is that you find the match-up boring then you should expect that I will provide counter arguments that point out your bias and why it shouldn't be nerfed for the reasons that person provided. I am well aware of the difference between mocking/flaming a person and opposing emotionless ideas and arguments.
Clearly you're not as aware of that difference as you believe. And if your "counter-argument" to a subjective opinion is that that opinion doesn't matter (but yours somehow does?) then you're being a hypocrite and I will call you on it. Tough titties.
Anka, the Buried is very interesting card. I always liked deathratle cards and this card has very good synergy with them. The biggest advantage is that this card dont depend in random and work exactly the way you want it to work. You can decide when is the right moment and use it when you want.
