I’m going to call it now: Blizz will regret printing this. There’s just too many things you can do with it. You can trade in a wide board and then get it back for seven mana, you can counter AoE, you can bring back just a big thing or two and you’re still dumping a lot of stats on the board, something like Summon Mage or Res Priest could take advantage of this nicely.
Craft this the second the patch hits. Pretty sure we’re looking at the new Zilliax here, a big legendary flex card that goes into nearly every deck. (Granted, less so these days, but still.) And I’m not sure I like nearly auto include cards that go into almost any deck, but as long as they keep insisting on printing them, well... it is what it is.
How can you counter AoE on your own turn?
Calling this the new Zilliax is a huge overstatement. This is not flexible enough to be in every deck. 8/10 times this will be a dead card in your hand.
Don't craft this the second patch hits. It'll be a waste of your dust. You will regret it come August when the next expansion hits.
Kel'Thuzad was never very good. Revenge of the Wild hasn't found a way to be very good. I think we might be at the point where we can reasonably say that these effects aren't very good.
It's not horrible in the current iteration of beast hunter b/c you have so many rush&charge beasts, which make it easier to set up and allow you to double-dip on attacks. I'd say it juuuust barely misses the cut for the standard ladder version of the deck.
You're making my point for me. Revenge of the Wild is a MUCH better card than this and it still isn't played. More often than not, this type of effect only encourages bad trades.
I'm not arguing that Whitemane is good, I doubt she'll see play unless she receives a ton of support. Just pointing out that Revenge of the Wild is better than you gave it credit for (thanks to all the good hunter cards that synergise with it). Cards that demand trading to pay off (notably cult master) have tended to be pretty bad because they're unreliable and they encourage you to do something you don't want to do with a board full of minions that can attack.
However, I think a lot of newer cards like Springpaw and Thunderhead, heck the rush mechanic itself, might make it worthwhile to revisit these trade-encouragers. I mean Scavenging hyena had been sitting on the sidelines for quite a bit too.
brightwing is great, inquisitor is win more yes but some decks need that so could be called situational, SI:7 would fly in a secret meta
rest are total garbage though, they're way too scared of impact of "classic" cards that don't rotate and just print full garbage ... but still some of these wouldn't see play even if just mana reduced by 1,2 even 3!
Also, everybody comparing this to Revenge of the Wild does realize that A: Revenge of the Wild only works with a very specific minion tribe that’s difficult to kill a wide board with on the same turn, and B: Doesn’t have a body attached.
Yes, it’s 5 mana cheaper, but the huge thing is this isn’t a combo card. You aren’t gonna play stuff and then res it unless that stuff had Charge or Rush, it’s all about getting back what you lost LAST turn, with a vengeance. And it’s not just smaller beast cards, it works with big cards, it works with anything. The situation where you play a big drop, they kill it, and then you play Whitemane to get two big things down for 7 next turn will come up a lot more often than some of you seem to think, mark my words
I like it! It comes off as not too weak, not too strong, just a solid card that if synergized with could be a solid include. Better than most of these 10 cards tbh.
Yes. They wrote such a lengthy explanation (full of obvious well known facts and partial lies) just to justify them removing mind blast and vanish. Two wonderful, perfect fitting cards that they obviously can't balance. The hilarious thing is that the cards are going into wild (standard's dumpster) where apparently all this class identity importance does not apply :)
That's my take on it. They just wanted to justify the decision to smack those two cards. As Agon says, this description of the classes along with their strengths and weaknesses, if we truly are talking about "class identity," should apply to the entire game, not just in Standard. Also, they basically affirmed that they treat Wild like a dumpster where all the broken stuff goes. If they had been smarter about it, they would have just said, "We're removing these cards from Standard because we want to develop other cards for Priest and Rogue" and not bothered with the class description nonsense.
I don't think this is just for those two cards. I think this is to start a trend. They already broke with many of their old ways by buffing cards and HoFing outside of rotation. I'm thinking they will be doing A LOT more of this stuff as we go on, and some of those changes will not be explainable by It's OP/not fun/messes with design.
Mind Blast was aimed at for a HoF already. They flat out said last time they were going to hit it and just barely decided to just not do it this year. Vanish was the surprise though. If it was a design decision, they would've said so as you suggest as they've done it before. If it was due to future cards, they've just done that earlier with Hex. The literally have no reason to make some fakey excuse when they've already used many of the other reasons for doing this without audience madness.
There IS a chance that this is Activision Corporate Speak sneaking in, which loves to oversugarcoat things. But I don't see a reason to assume that's the case. If it is, we'll find out sure enough anyway in the next sets of cards and nerfs.
But assuming they are correct, I'm betting that the next set of mage cards will not work with the conjure mindset, and they just gave themselves an opening to nerf Conjure or Mountain Giant without the deck being OP or unfun.
I am in favor of HOF-ing it, if only to mix it up a bit, multiple decks have been able to pull "Mountain Giant on 4" through the history of HS. I'm over it.
In terms of classes Mountain Giant really hasn't seen a ton of play, it has almost been an exclusive warlock/mage card when it has been used. It may be used a lot in this classes (mainly warlock for many years before CC was a thing), but I don't see how that is any different than 'Many warrior decks use Brawl, Many mage decks use Fireball, or Many priest decks use Cleric' kind of complaint.
I'm not big on removing cards just for the sake of changing things up. Imo it needs to be a Tier 0/S meta-warping problem to resort to that, otherwise the vocal minority just gets free reign with an annoying game of whack-a-mole against anything they get bored with every month.
Consistent cards do not always equal problematic cards.
^ The card costs 12 though, that means you're pretty much stuck with a giant-type minion.
I suppose they could make a minion a la Shirvallah or rabble bouncer that has a cost reduction effect but isn't a giant, but it'd be pretty obvious to anyone and their uncle why they're making a 12 cost understatted dude.
I'm honestly surprised MG hasn't been hall of famed yet considering it's been a staple card for hand/cubelock for at least two years prior to conjurer mage even existing. I' d be annoyed to see it happen, but I've been expecting it for a while now.

Best golden card art in the game!
But, so far the 3200 dust investment hasn't really paid off.
Portal Shaman
Hmm interesting take on the deck--I will give it a try.
Portal Shaman
Not a bad idea; I was trying to limit 2 mana spells to give a higher chance of hitting portals but you could be right.

The Mets fan part is why I brew fun decks instead of playing the meta, I'm used to failure haha.

Thank you--hope you like it!

I'm pretty sure Erekem and Sael'orn are exclusive to the Violet Hold Chapter. After all they are bosses in Violet Hold in WoW.

Anyone else think the recent post about class pros/cons is incredibly lopsided?
