  • How does cards like Spellcoiler work? Does it all have to happen in one turn, or will the card actually remembers that the requirement has been fulfilled throughout the game? Guess those yellow borders will be working overtime in this expansion.

As for the new keywords, Im down with all the colossal units, which seems strong, but I fear for its future, because if ever board doesn't mean anything, then neither will these cards. I can also see Snowfall Guardian smiling at the sides, its scary.

For dredge however, Im yet to be convinced. There has to be more cards like Sunken Sweeper and Ambassador Faelin before dredge ever gets anywhere in standard. We'll have to see as the expansion is revealed.

That art for Shimmering Sunfish. Now that looks very familiar doesnt it?

  • Is there something Im missing from this picture? Like why is finley being upside down in this pic?

The card effect itself is interesting. Basically if youre being screwed by your mulligan you can try again. That's fine I suppose.

  • Its likely that dredge will only truly be playable alongside cards that actively put stuff at the bottom of your deck. The idea that we get to choose whats coming the next turn is a neat idea, but I doubt we'd be actually putting cards like these into the deck just to take advantage of the dredge effect.

Tuskarrrr Trawler for example, is a vanilla 2 drop. Is there any reason why'd I play this card over the many other 2 drops that comes with battlecries that may be more relevant than a maybe card?

But that said, there's many interesting ways team5 can run with the dredge effect, like Bloodscent Vilefin, that may make it more worth it. I think this is where dredge shows its best - Being a card that grants an additional effect along with the ability to choose what you draw next. That's where it'll probably be a more playable card.

  • Its probably never going to happen. Allowing an option to covert coin to gold simply worsen an existing problem, of which mercs is fairly notorious Im sure; bot-ting

Despite what anyone may say about mercs, its hard to see past the obvious fact, and that is that the game is shallow, in a manner that makes pokemon look like dark souls by comparison. I can literally finish an entire pve bounty doing nothing but the same moves over and over - its so mind numbing that I simply dont even count the damage or see what the opponent is doing anymore, just queue attacks because why not? The consequence of this is that the game is incredibly easy to bot. I can imagine running the same heroic barrens no. 1 over and over with a bot and gain somewhere around 3000 rokara coins per day if not more.

Besides which, we have to acknowledge the fact that this - the excess coin issue - is a non-factor, in that its a benign growth on the body that only occasionally itches. Solving it is a matter of choice, it'll hardly ever affect the fun (or unfun) of mercs or its engagement value. So it seems a bit excessive to ask that they allow us to convert a fairly worthless number to something immensely more valuable.

I appreciate the sentiment that many in the community are fairly frustrated with the excess coin around, and much as I would benefit from your suggestion, it's simply unrealistic to believe that team5 would allow us to convert the coins to anything outside of mercs itself. Its sort of like why so many companies insist on doing business with their own made-up currency: Because in the event of excess, or refunds, they can avoid giving you back your duly earned cold hard cash.

The way I see it, the excess coin will likely end up allowing us to purchase cosmetics for mercs (in effect, portraits) or allow some kind of coin exchange (like how dust currently works for hearthstone hearthstone). But I figure its more likely mercs get a completely overhaul - gameplay and all - before any such exchanges are made possible in the future.

  • Its right next to the alterac valley pack, beneath all the skins.

If Im not mistaken it used to be featured on the front, but obviously they've been churning out these skins like a halloween convention so its been shifted downwards.

  • This one took much longer than I expected. Either your algorithms are getting smarter, or the words are unexpectedly harder to find because of the many unusually made words this time round.

Maybe if I post my Orc team you can say if it is to weak or if I'm making mistakes.

    Garrosh @Tusks of Mannoroth lvl3
all skills lvl3 - but I have 250 coins to spend

    Thrall @Ring of Strength lvl4
    all skills lvl 3 - 60 coins

    Saurfang @Serrated Shield lvl3
Mobilizing Strike 4, others on 3 -71 coins

    Grommash @Halting Sash lvl2
    Blood Fervor 3, Staggering Slam 4, Battlefury 2 - 164 coins

    Samuro @Burning Blade 5
    maxed

Galvangar (is not supposed to be used)

So without any task farming I could upgrade 1 skill or item on Garrosh and 1 skill on Grommash.

I'd go rokara instead of samuro to be honest. If there's no one activating samuro then he's not worth it, just dies off way too quick. Rokara can at very least grant some extra health to your other orcs if needed, and one of her equipment pushes her health to a default 90+.

Through your fight towards the boss, I'd say to be very careful with your saurfang, because usually every enemy will target him, for some reason. I'd avoid putting teams out that'll allow the AI to snipe off someone on turn 2, that's just the easiest way you'd lose your mercs before the boss.

Another thing you can try is to scout out the map before proceeding. If you have to fight off a heroic merc on your way to the boss, just reroll the map. Its not worth it to lose mercs along the way because of a cheesy map.

  • This brawl should just be named: Turn one concede. Because if you dont start turn 1 then you might as well just leave.

Because if your opposite is dhunter, why bother trying?

  • A bizarre choice to say the least. It also costs 7 with 3 overload, and all it does is give you 3 murlocs in your hand. Talk about being bad, lol.

  • I doubt pirate warrior in standard will ever be good. Even pre-nerf it was a terribly linear deck of which any high level player thats not playing druid easily beats. The only way it'll ever be as broken as it is in wild is that team5 prints a ton of cheap pirates and somehow gives warrior decent card draw as well.

Both I don't anticipate would ever happen. We're going deep into the ocean, and its murloc's time to shine damnit.

  • Well, I was thinking that it'll be leaked out before release and here we are. So much for all that pandaria speculation on reddit. I guess that pretty much removes any possibility of a new class until the following year as well, because it wouldn't make much sense to have a new class at any time other than the first expansion of the rotation.

As for the bundle, its pretty much standard now, 80 packs + 5 extra golden packs. Not preordering, because let's be honest here, 80 bucks is a stretch considering that you wont even get a full set from it. I will be interested if there were cheaper bundles, because if blizz has a 25 bucks plan for 25 packs + 2 legendaries, I'd definitely be considering it.

Not really interested in the portrait but is there some mandated rule that all hero portraits must look straight? Be a bit better if they had a dynamic pose instead of the usual school mug shot.

Perhaps we'll finally be getting a neptulon that's actually playable now too.

  • Sorry, seems like I misread the rules.

To make up for it, I'll continue the chain.

Basically, its a better Magma Rager. But if you can heal it, or give it health, then its just a good aggro 3 drop. The fact is if it attacks even once, it'll already have done its job most of the time.

Next: A spell for a fairly iconic move - Fake Out

@Alleria & @allthehype: Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately I don't have some of the mercs you suggested (I've maxed out Bru'kan and Guff Runetotem, but I've yet to accumulate enough coins for Malfurion Stormrage lol), and I haven't been using Gruul at all so I'll need to level him up first. I nearly beat Rend Blackhand yesterday with a combination of Xyrella, Varden Dawngrasp, Blademaster Samuro, and some other orcs. What I did was keep buffing up Samuro's attack so he'll always be targeted by Rend's 200 damage ability, then using Whirling Blade on the same turn so he's immune when that 200 damage strikes. Unfortunately I mistimed a freeze by Varden so my Mercs died to a hailstorm of fire from those damn dragons.

But thanks for linking to that guide! I'll get more tips from there.

Beat Rend blackhand easily with diablo. Just a level 3 fire stomp and you're golden.

If you get the passive that deals fire damage for every enemy dead from a fire attack, then its just a OTK on turn 2.

  • If they remove the dragons, which Im doubtful that they will, then noz day would be similarly kaput. I certainly wouldn't put it past them to do something like this, its a fairly small xp boost at the end of the day after all.

I remember reading somewhere that team5 will not be making big changes to the core set for the next hearthstone year. For that very reason, I dont think the aspects would be going anywhere anytime soon.

If you want the equipment, I believe your Galvangar needs to be in the party, so an orc comp makes sense.

I just tried it (with Xyrella), and they got their butts kicked by the massive amounts of attack that the bosses rack up so quickly.

I think murlocs could work here, but I'd try your nature comp, esp if you have Malfurion and his root ability. You're gonna need root or freeze to stop them from whacking you in the face.

Also, ignore that prickly cactus. Plenty of players enjoy some Mercs and there's a whole thread with tips and tricks for beating bounty bosses.

Lmk what works for you, I'm still chasing that equipment too!

Galvangar only needs to be part of your 6 man merc team, he doesn't need to feature or do anything, as long as you win it he'll get his equipment.

So you're not forced to run an orc team, but it might still be the best choice at the end of the day.

  • Dont let this seemingly useless card fool you, it's going to take over the meta at some point.

Rogue spell, I'll leave it to you guys in figuring out what this monster of a card can do if it were ever printed in standard.

  • Train heist, which will then result in yet another name change for an established character. Turns out Bobby K is evil capitalist during the day but its getting too easy for him so he moonlights as a highwayman just for the kicks. Robbing isn't fun when there's no wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Expect an apology video where he reveals his true identity spiderman style.

  • If it is about the patch its unusual. I mean, they shifted buggy patches out before, what makes us think that they wouldn't do it again?

Might be either something to do with one of the leads needing to take an emergency leave, or perhaps they needed to redo the presentation for some reason. Either way its disappointing as I was actually looking forward to this.

  • The extra coins will probably end us allowing us to get portraits. I doubt it'll ever be allowed for conversion, or if it were possible then the conversion rate would be ridiculously high. Reasoning for this is simply that many of us already have plenty of excess coins, and it makes the bot issue in mercs worse than it should have any right to be in the first place.

As we speak, apparently there was a point where the no.1 ranked in mercs MMR is a bot, and Ive no reason to doubt it, because the gameplay is shallow enough that you can legit have a team that does the same thing turn after turn and expect good results.

  • Im actually alluding to the way the many druids in the meta tends to win or lose, which is really just a farce to me.

Obviously if youre not druid trogg doesn't really do too much, though a turn 1 trogg is still nevertheless a very strong play that may decide matches.
