  • Just finished it, and I can confirm that there's no gold standard pack waiting should you finish it all.

I would still recommend others to do anyway, because you still get a pack out of each book.

And so that closes the merc storyline. I have to say though, dawngrasp's book in terms of gameplay is one of the worse ones Ive ever have to suffer through. I think mission 4 is bugged , I only managed it through sheer luck. Can't imagine many people not raging over that particular one.

  • Its likely to be bad outside of quest warrior. There are better 2 drops available, and this card does nothing the turn its played.

Sightless Watcher hasn't seen play since the start of AoO when dhunter was completely OP in every other way. I fully expect this card to share its fate.

  • There are some applications for this card, but I doubt its ever going to be a meta definer.

    - You can replace your hand in search of a win con

    - You can fish for your sunken cards, which may or may not be good. In aggro decks, you can play Ambassador Faelin for more value and use finley to swap your usually useless hand in the midgame for a better hand.

    - You can fill your hand with worthless generated junk and swap it for better cards.

But here's the problem. You got to first draw this card, and then hold it until youre 100% confident you're not screwing yourself over. So in other words, this card is bricked until you pull the trigger, and then after doing so, its not even guaranteed to win you the game.

So in other words, Im putting a card in my deck that I dont know when its the best time to play, and equally dont know if I will win after doing so. Wouldn't it be better to simply swap this card in your deck with something that can actually win you the game instead of gambling for something else that will do the same?

  • Its a tech card. And a really nasty one because if you can keep it alive from being traded on board, then your opponent will almost always be forced to play off curve in fear of losing their turn. And this card has an additional evil effect of basically ruining your opponent's combo, assuming they cant remove it.

And there's where the snag hits hard: you need to keep it alive. Choose minion, and spells will destroy this card. Choose spells, and your opponent will simply play a minion and then thereafter play around this counter until they can kill it, a not too impossible scenario.

The fact is that this card is dependent on your opponent's move and could potentially do nothing. In that respect, its actually a worse card than something like Cult Neophyte, which guarantees disruption.

Best played in a midrange deck, where whether the effect triggers is hardly ever the point, and by keeping your other minions alive, this might have just served its purpose. I dont expect this to ever consistently counter combo decks, or be good enough that it's literally in every deck.

  • To be honest, this card will only be good in a hypothetical aggro deck. And this being an indication of more pirates for rogue, there might actually be one.

But we've come to a point where spending 5 mana to destroy a minion is fairly weak, and this needing to combo with something means its realistically coin turn 4 or turn 6 at best.

And really, is there any reason to not just play quest rogue instead, where this card is easily supplanted by SI infiltrators.

  • This card has the potential to be completely OP. The fact is that if you've played 2 nagas with one of these in your hand, you've basically 4 Serpent Wigs to wear at your disposal, effectively meaning you'll always have a serpent wig one way or another in hand. Kinda makes it a psuedo libram of wisdom honestly.

The only reason why Im not sold on it yet is because Palm Reading is no longer in standard. So you've actually have to pay for your bananas. But if ever there would be spell synergy in priest, this is just a no brainer choice.

One other thing you can do; just load your hand with serpent wigs and then toss it all with Sir Finley, Sea Guide for a loaded hand of better stuff. Might be worth checking out, because priest reloads like shit.

Edit: Just realised that Im misinterpreting how this replicates itself. Seems like it only triggers when you play it, so you cant just fill your entire hand with wigs as you play nagas.

Oh well, that's still useful if theres  way to discount these things.

  • Dont know why, the fish looks so tasty. I know commissioning art isn't exactly cheap, but reusing a token card's art? and its cookie's disposal seafood for god's sake.

But fortunately this minion is good. In fact its great. 3 mana 2/5 divine shield taunt is about as defensive and sticky as it gets. The only way this can disappoint would be that holy spells in the next meta are all completely worthless. But Ive a feeling that that wouldn't be the case.

  • Its not a bad 2 drop on its own, and its practically a soft taunt of which your opponent will never allow to live. Paladin is facing an existential crisis in the next meta, so there's always a chance that team5 have printed a boatload of good holy spells that'll make this card nuts.

Right now however, Im just upset that Noble Mount is not a holy spell.

  • Maybe there's a really big murloc down the lines because if there isn't this card is bad. And I do mean bad.

Its a turn 4, set your next card to be a murloc that costs health instead of mana. And then we look at the set of murlocs we have and we ask ourselves "why is this card even in my deck". So everything is fine except a pay off and murlocs are notoriously frail and fairly worthless. Mutanus have been practically holding up the entire tribe for ages, and I dont think hes going to do the same in an aggro deck.

So we're looking for a massive murloc payoff. Make it so, team5.

  • Only playable if;

    - Colossal minions are completely OP in the way that makes it worth spending 2 turns trying to get them into your hand

    - Some nasty control deck would be tier 1 next meta

    - Everyone just loves this guy

If none of the above matters, then this card is trash. No taunt, and then you need a dredge card for it to do something. I mean, we're off from chillwind yetis ages ago.

  • At least it confirms that there would be mechs in the next expansion.

Dredge can easily tutor the Sunken Sweeper out, but the question remains: do you even want the sunken sweeper in your hand the next turn?

Because if Im being honest, the answer would be no. Mage has plenty of value with spells like Rune of the Archmage, so its never running out of stuff to do. And this card only gives you 3 mechs. Unless one of those is a Zilliax (not completely impossible) then its fair to call it a sequence of many contrivances for a trio of trash.

Even as an aggro card, we're talking reloading your hand with unpredictable stuff, when you'd much rather just have fireball (assuming its in core) in the midgame anyway.

But hey, maybe mage gets a full set of OP mechs and suddenly we're staring at control mage with this as its crown jewel. But more likely its yet more spell mage and this card gets a crown of turds on its head.

  • Basically its just Priestess of Fury, except its split into 5 different minions.

Forget about this minion sticking. Its just never going to. Because if for some reason it did then you're already winning or your opponent just won. The only relevant question is asking how to cheat this out, or what you can do with at least 2 tentacles left on your next turn.

You can cheat it out via Raging Felscreamer (assuming its in core), Sigil of Reckoning, or Caria Felsoul. All three options saves 1-2 mana. But by the same token, all of them also cheapens the more deadly Illidari Inquisitor (assuming its still in core) as well...so just pray hard inquisitor gets booted out of standard I guess?

Expecting some tentacles sticking is fair and is also significant because hero kurtrus easily curves into this minion, and the tentacles can attack, on top of their end of turn damage. That's basically saving Xhilag from being unplayable right now.

This is a good minion of which many forms of dhunter can take advantage of. Just dont expect this card to set the world on fire...unless team5 have something to synergize with this down the reveal line.

  • I'll be honest, this looks unplayable. Not because its a bad card, but because I can't for the life of me understand why druid would even play a card like this. Maybe its because Im too used to druid doing druid things that even solid good cards like these just dont seem to fit in.

The shell has 8 health and grants you 8 health. But it has no attack, and Colaque itself only deals 6 damage. And this thing costs 7 mana. Best in Shell costs 6, generates two taunts, and more or less accomplishes the same job, and it has the all important tradeable tag on it. And you can play 2 of them. And even then many still think that card isn't worth playing in druid.

    The only possible way this card sees play at all is either;

    - theres some massive colossal synergy thats not revealed yet (we're talking revive, etc.)

    - Or you can copy this minion on board, and the colossal effect also triggers again.

Other than that I cant see it.

  • Turn out that the reveal schedule is nearly a month long, in deference to what they have been doing for the last few expansions. So there's no reason to shit out the core set when everyone's hyped about the expansion.

Or if we're being cynical, theyve made some card choices which they know very well the community will start grabbing pitchforks, or alternatively so mundane that everyone gets put off by it.

  • I was actually confused, because I thought there would be more singing or something at the end. Turns out that there isn't any, and the techno-explore-esque music is really all there is.

  • Fortunately, its play battlegrounds, not get top 4 in it. Otherwise I can kiss that skin goodbye, because there's no chance Im grinding up battlegrounds after not playing that for somewhere around 1.5 years.

  • I guess team5 played blood magic for the first time in years and found out "hey, this brawl of which doesn't last more than 1 turn is a bit unfun". And having tied one of the quests to actually playing tavern brawl, guess they pulled the plug on it and gave something thats more back-and-forth.

In reply to Tavern Brawl Switch?
  • A good 2 drop. The problem is that it'll never really realistically stick on turn 2, and your opponent will try to deny you value any day.

That said, most paladin would probably still run it, because they need good 2 drops, and a divine shield buff on this thing along with something on board can easily turn the game.

Too bad Noble Mount doesn't work on this card, otherwise its absolutely insane. There might be better holy spells down the line, since there's already 2 paladin cards so far that synergizes with it.

  • Well, patch is up, and you'll no doubt be stunned to hear that they are NOT available via gold. 10 usd please.

  • I think dredge is more effective in fishing those cards out, because we're talking about replacing your entire hand here. So if you're holding onto some key cards then finley is just unplayable. Dredge gives you a key card while letting you keep your hand, that's much better in my opinion, in most situations.
