Its a lol card that will never work in competitive.
But I can see a possibility of it working if there are more cheap cards for this to discount. You can never truly write off cards that reduces mana costs. I would say a 1 in 10 chance that this card actually contributes to some degenerate combo at some point, but Id say you're more likely to win a lottery that this working.
In 2023, and with Prison Breaker being a staple in two of the classes where spawning a bunch of 2/3 taunts would be useful against, this card simply not good enough, unless youre specifically playing this on 4 with the quickdraw triggered.
It'll see some play, in aggro decks, or in very specific handbuff decks but its not really that great aside from the fact that its a straight up upgrade from the original Saronite Chain Gang.
It'll see play by sole virtue of the fact that it excavates.
Highlander decks would need it, but in other decks its likely going to get superseded by a cheaper excavate card. For what it is, the main issue that its 5 mana, in 2023 that 5 mana card would need to do quite a lot to see play in competitive.
Firstly, in what world in 2023 is there a deck that will deplete your hand so severely that this card actually becomes relevant?
And secondly, in what world will random murlocs that you'll need to play ever win you games?
Unfortunately, unless we're looking at vomit pally, or dhunter, this card will simply never see light of day. Maybe in arena, but Im not holding my breath.
Probably a bad card. 5 mana to draw one card is way too slow in today's game, and if that one card doesn't end up winning you the game is there any point in doing it?
The only good thing from this card is that it will usually end up drawing you a high value card like colossals or even just Thunderbringer, which can actually bring out neptulon, which can easily win you games. But its too convoluted and inconsistent.
I wont say it will never see play, we're coming back to a highlander meta after all, but its likely just filler for lack of a better term.
We havent seen all the quickdraw cards so obviously my review is a bit premature.
But from what Ive seen, this is nowhere near the equivalent of something like Instructor Fireheart. All it takes is but one high mana cost quickdraw card to completely stop you in your tracks and from the looks of it its highly unlikely that there wouldn't be at least one that cost more than 4 mana. And then there's the fact that you're not discovering these cards, youre getting it at random. So at times you'll get Dehydrate and feel good about yourself, and then get completely walled at other times.
That said, its likely this card will see play. Highlander is coming back so you naturally need more cards and this is just a good value card that replaces itself. Just dont count on this doing more than that.
I loved the original Meteorologist. But that doesnt alter the fact that that card was shit, never played, and this card is basically just that. Too expensive and too inconsistent makes for a poor card indeed.
The only good thing I can see from this card is that it excavates. Depending on whether mage will run highlander, or whether excavate proves so wildly successful, this card might get a nod or be confined to meme class.
This card is actually way better than Meteorologist. It has an extra +1/+1, it always deals one more damage because of the generated card, and of course, it Excavates. It's still not good enough to be auto-included or anything, but it might be good enough to see play.
Its definitely objectively better than meteorologist. But the former was introduced 7 years ago :) So its entirely expected that this is a straight upgrade.
But I still think both are not good enough in today's meta. You'll likely play this card entirely for the excavate alone.
Ah yes, another brawl that could have been interesting had it not been for the choosable bonuses.
Mr Chu, voodoomaster vex, and sephira are absolutely dog shit in this brawl because of the bonuses. Best decks belong to Ivan and George, because both make full use of the bonuses provided in a way that others could not.
As for the bonuses, you'll choose lazul 90% of the time and that last 10% would be Dr Boom. Lazul ensures that you'll have plenty of cards in hand, while Dr boom practically coverts all your minions into boombots.
If youre looking for an easy win, just choose Ivan. He'll more or less win sooner or later.
If you never played a souls game until elden ring you should definitely try the original dark souls 1. The controls are janky, the hit boxes are cruel, and graphically its about 15 years too late. But damn it, there's something about dark souls that's just refreshingly different even as its sequels continue to succeed further and further.
Fromsoftware has changed tact from when they first made dark souls. This is perhaps the first and only souls game from them that's completely no holds barred lore first over gameplay. You dont get to teleport from bonfires until the late game, multiple layers of weapon upgrades, and titanite is rare and needs to be grinded out. Loads of rings, but only two slots means youre essentially switching out all the time. Of all of fromsoft's games, none has reached the dizzying heights of dark souls's level of attention in design. Most people tend to hype out later fromsoft game bosses. But its only in dark souls that the hype is about its surroundings and world design.
I'd recommend you try it. You might even be tempted to switch out elden ring for dark souls in this article :)
While I would love the idea of a sideboard i.e. making certain changes to the deck according to the match, I find it extremely unlikely. Its not even guaranteed to make the game better or more interesting, all it essentially does is allow the players to counter specific matchups more potently.
A common example would be cards like Speaker Stomper which really in reality counter one deck in the current meta, or even something as innocent as Lingering Zombie which really ramps up win rate vs aggro for druid.
Honestly, I dont see this happening. Balancing would need to be very precise, and it really doesnt change a lot in terms of deck building. There was once a tournament that did precisely that, allowing sideboards, from what I remember it wasnt really making drastic changes to the meta, nor was it allowing niche decks to appear, at least tournament wise.
Sapping a card for 2 turns is kinda good, but in 2023 most board based decks tend to have loads of reload and snowball potential that this card can never realistically do more than annoy.
The fact that you can never use this against some targets like titans, rush/charge minions, etc. makes it even worse. If there is a silver lining, you can use this against your own key minions so they'll always be alive three turns later to do whatever it is youre planning.
I cant for the life of me understand why this card needed a condition at all to trigger. Maiev Shadowsong wasnt good 5 years ago, so what makes anyone think this card needed a condition to balance it out?
Havent tested it, and havent actually seen it in play.
But I can imagine this card being good at somepoint, in some deck. Because any card that can bring up neptulon, and present a taunt to protect it must be respected even if its unlikely that this card can win you games that way.
But at 8 mana though, its likely it'll never be abused (by druid), just dont quote me on that.
The card itself is not special. Two 3/3s at 3 is amazing number of stats but its not a game winner in 2023. And more concerning is that if you drew this card early with no means to play it, its essentially a drawback because discarding a spell to play two 3/3s is about as shit as it gets.
I wouldn't be surprised if I never see this card. Even in highlander theres got to be better cards than this one.
Edit: Perhaps I might be a bit harsh on the card. The wording sounds like you can legit just play this on 3 without any spells in hand to discard and therefore no drawback, so it softens the blow a little.
Might actually see play after all, but it'll be in highlander at best. Most warlock decks really dont tend to be 90% minions. Even in implock theres actually more spells than you think, and those spells tend to be key cards in the deck.
Firstly, unless shaman's next archetype push is midrange elemental, this card will never see play.
Secondly, even if there is such a deck, this card is just decent, no different to Lilypad Lurker, except you can argue the latter being a better card overall. Because 90% of the time this is just a 5 mana 5/4 that removes a minion or two. Even lilypad lurker itself is not a guaranteed starter, so this card will likely share that fate.
Its a shame. Because if it werent for the elemental condition, this card would actually see more play, as a simple removal card as opposed to being a supposed upside in a theoretical midrange elemental shaman deck.
This card is hard to evaluate because priest simply dont play midrange, and tend to suck at it. The only midrange deck that priest plays is arguably big priest, and that's a mostly exclusive wild deck.
But here's the thing. This card thins your deck by 4, and built correctly you can present a dangerous enough board to that'll allow you to threaten lethal even if they get board wiped. And being a highlander deck means you'll be playing plenty of targets, as opposed to just being a pure control deck.
That said, this card is at present a maybe. There's no way to truly evaluate it without seeing the entire set, though I suspect team5 would push hard to make it work somehow.
I loved the original Meteorologist. But that doesnt alter the fact that that card was shit, never played, and this card is basically just that. Too expensive and too inconsistent makes for a poor card indeed.

Its Alliance Bannerman for hunter, but made substantially worse by being a deathrattle.
So against aggro decks they just value trade this and give your hand a boost, for a class that doesnt run board as well as paladin, and against control this card is just useless, unless youre willing to kill it yourself.
Basically, the only good thing about this card is that its a better Loot Hoarder. That said, it'll likely see play anyway, because if hunter goes highlander they'll need more diverse cards and more card draw options. This is a nice inclusion, even if subpar in of itself.
Its a one sided AoE for hunter, so it'll see play as long as the conditions arent difficult to manage. And highlander isnt exactly very difficult for hunter, with access to plenty of good cards.
I cant see any problems to this card aside from the highlander condition. There might be a card that counters highlander decks that might make running it a bit more challenging but this card is just good regardless.
Its a lol card that will never work in competitive.

I really want to like this. But I cant.

Excavate would be good. This card is an excavate card for cheap. So its a good card.
Probably see more play than most bigger cards in this set.
I just find this card funny.
Sapping a card for 2 turns is kinda good, but in 2023 most board based decks tend to have loads of reload and snowball potential that this card can never realistically do more than annoy.

1 mana deal 4 damage. Unless youre facing a control deck this will always be good.
Nothing really else to say. Its Eye Beam that's slightly stronger but also slightly more convoluted.
