In general, I agree with the sentiment that "cool" cosmetics should be cash-only. Honestly, I am at a point where I kind of feel bad I haven't given Riot any money yet: I've been playing almost daily since open-beta, have nearly all cards, and am enjoying much more than HS, yet I've given Blizzard ~$100-150 over the years and Riot $0--entirely because HS would do the devilish thing where I felt like I had to spend cash to make competitive decks whereas LoR is extremely generous in crafting resources if you're patient and play regularly.
The one exception is that I wish they would provide a few more non-cash cosmetics. They already have given rainbow poro pet, rainbow poro emote, and moonshine poro as time-limited free-bees and region-specific cardbacks as progression rewards, and I use those liberally. They also have done the ladder-based icons, but honestly I think those all look like trash. And no non-cash boards. Again: I do think all the "cool" cosmetics should be cash-only as that's essentially Riot's sole revenue stream, but I would also like to see a few more offerings along these lines.
Looking at League, they do have a small portion of cosmetics for shards, so maybe, eventually, they will make something like that in LOR as well. The game is still very young. Shards also came into existence in LOL only after few years of the game being out. Not saying they have to take few years to implement it here, but like i said, the game is young.
@OP: Basically what others have said, the game is F2P and the monetization comes from cosmetics, same as with LOL. Be very glad that is their model.
I will just add that I'm an old HearthStone whale, and since Gwent's android premiere I have been slowly but steadily drifting away from HS.. This is actually the reason I came over here to the forums now - wanted to ask if you guys (mods, @Flux, anyone?) considered covering this game along HS, LOR and M:TGA ? Not exactly sure where to post this question, hope it gets noticed.
We did consider it in the past, but there wasnt much audience for it. If we see enough forum activity about the game, we will create its own separate subforum and if there is enough to warrant spending time covering the news, then we will also.
That was a surprisingly creative theme. Good luck to all of you! My favorites are Back Alley Sniper and Storm Captain.
I also want to say thanks to the community and especially to the veterans for introducing me and the other noobs into the world of custom card design. The whole season was a blast and I got sucked in deeper and deeper, culminating in a custom expansion I'm working on right now (nothing to show yet, I only have a new keyword and 6 or 7 legendaries done to get the shiny OP cards out of my head). This is a great, helpful and positive community and I'm proud to be part of it. I'm looking forward to what's next!
Nothing can make us happier than helping a newcomer find its way into card design and being sucked right in haha! Good luck with your expansion, im looking forward to see what you come up with ;-)
Pretty good implementation of all the Primes overall. And about Zixor, i too think that the ability might be trying to portray him phasing in and out and being so fast that he appears to be in multiple places at the same time.
Yep, they're introducing alternate arts for the cards. Make way too much sense not to
They'll probably also have "golden" versions of cards, like Hearthstone does, though I can also see them going the Gwent route, at least for the champions.
I wonder if it will be cards, or only Champions, something akin to skins in LOL. They are already doing card backs and boards, maybe the card art is the next step.
What Shuckie said. Also you can look at it this way: did the money/time spent provide for an entertainment for the time being? If so, then just accept that and see it as an investment into your hobby. Some ppl spend more money on a single night out than it costs to buy a preorder for an expansion for example.
Just see it as money/time spent on having fun, dont feel obligated to stay with something you dont have time for just cause you invested into it. You eventually stop partying as well (or as often), once you dont have time for that anymore either :)
This is nothing new, dont surrender for a small possibility your opponent will BM and throw or DC etc. It is just matter of your mind-set and time spent.
Some ppl can get tilted staying in a match like that, or by the opponent's actions. Or that win might not be worth spending another 10+ minutes in the game when you know you are most likely going to lose. Depends on the deck you play etc.
I get what ur saying, but it is not something that isnt just common sense and everyone has to decide for themselves if it is worth it in their current game or not. I wouldnt call it a hard rule or anything.
40 percent not to draw is a pretty big deal, but that's why they run solitary monk as a full play set, you can just clock people with that card instead as a last resort. It doesn't matter what your list is always be prepared to win without a champ or if it dies, if you do that you have no loose state and only win states.
I've actually been around since Blackrock Mountain, but I only started playing Wild last year and dusted all my rotating cards before that. I had completely forgotten about triclass cards. Shame on me.
Wouldn't it be more convenient for us to make them show up in all the classes they are playable in instead of the neutral section? I'd prefer to see them in three different places instead of only one where I can't use them in 7 out of 10 cases. Shouldn't be too much of an effort to program a pop up warning when you try to dust one of them that informs you about the fact that your "copies" in the other two classes will be gone as well.
With 10 classes I doubt we will get a tri class card, but we might get 5 class or double classes so only of they reuse the concept to some degree I can see them making such changes
They kinda did that with EVIL vs Explorers and Galakrond. I think if anything, this will be the direction they will continue rather than something like tri-class cards in the future.
I enjoy how doing these competitions makes ya very aware of Blizzard's unwritten design rules. Most folks here, it seems, agree that a good fan card should be something which could be printed - flavorful, balanced, not complicated, etc. - which limits the pool of acceptable ideas but, I think, brings you closer to the game in a satisfying way.
That is very true. Ppl will always like if the card(s) look as close to being passable additions to the game as possible. Be it balance, flavor, art etc. You can still come up with some cool ideas even within the "general" constrains of this type of card design and it is that much more rewarding when years later, you see Blizzard making a card that you made before. Quite a few ppl from competitions like this had that privilege in one form or another.
I am not sure how many ppl would actually use this, so probably not worth dev time, but i could see it being implemented either in the text editor as a new feature (button) or as a bbcode with a parameter, that would simply create an element with a time you input and would start counting down from the moment you submit the post. Not sure if it could then live its own life or if stuff like editing a post would pause/disable/reset it, it would depend on the capabilities of what can be coded, which Flux will have to answer, but again, cool stuff, but not sure if worth the time spent on it.
Has there been any word on second rotation yet? Feel like we're WAY past the mid point of the expansion now.
Nope, not a peep. If they were going to do it they would probably do it with Felfire patch or when Adventure launched. I dont think there will be a new rotation until the next set. Kinda sad they at least didnt say as much, or anything really.
What?! I guess i was living in a lie all this time! Which is it then?:o
So they r tracking the 'nonexistant' pity timer after all, eh? Haha.

I like these weapon names :D Must have been a fun design process.

You will have to expand your train of thought for us to give you any kind of answer :)

Crime?! Crime in my city?! I think not!
Thats not how combo decks work tho :)

Technically, you can see it in patch notes which we do collect, but having a kind of timeline with graphics and stuff would certainly be cool.

Very different drawing from your deck and generating a random card tho.
