In response to a question about full art cards being added to Hearthstone, Game Director, Ben Lee, let everyone know that we should expect to see a new type of vanity card! This card will look different in the collection, in-hand, and on the board.
At the moment, Hearthstone only has one type of vanity card, the golden card, which upgrades a normal card to one with a golden frame and an animated portrait. What do you want to see out of a new vanity card?
Quote From Ben Lee Are there any plans to implement Full Art cards as a reward?
We have something a little different in the works that we hope players will enjoy. Our current plan is for a new type of vanity card type that can look different in both the Collection, hand, and on the board. The team is pretty excited about it and we hope players will like it!

I just wish the golden animations were more prominent
When I randomly saw a Gwent stream those animations in hand and on the board looked great, much more visible
In HS it's much easier to miss them or they just don't stand out in your hand or on the board as much
Not sure if a platinum card version (or just another border art) would make the effort worth it, so I imagine some kind of cool FX or even a 3D version of the cards
Isn't this a huge indicator that the Battle Pass is definitely coming?
Hell, yeah! I like seeing Card Art getting some love!
I never liked golden Boarders. They're so boring, every Card looks the Same!
That sounds almost ominous
I don't mind them. I'm just a bit annoyed that i recognize cards just by their art, can't remember a name
Diamond Cards?
Aren't there already cards a bit like that? Random cards look different in hand than in play (eg Animal Companion). So as long as it is clear and consistent. You wouldn't it to be misleading (or would they?)
@Fluxflashor mentioned MTG - are there examples from other card games, that can be linked to?
Sorry, but I couldn't care less about vanity cards. But if that will bring more players to the game, so be it.
I don't have a problem with it, but I figure some folks might, especially casual players. Hearthstone always stood out to me because of its vibrant art and oftentimes I recognize cards just by glancing at the art, without the need to re-read the card text to make sure. Introducing different artworks for the same cards might introduce some confusion there and generally slow down gameplay, which is why I'm not sure how to feel about this idea.
Sounds good for people who want more customization.
Let'S hope this is going to be their approach for further monetization and not the disgraceful battle pass model.
Question, did they mention anything about battle pass during his AMA?
If due to my lack of memory I'm having issues right now knowing each of the cards we have on standard I can't imagine having also an alternate art for some of them.
Ah wait, I misunderstood it and tought that the new cosmetics will be new art for existing art. Forgot me, I didn't say anything :P
On the subject of alternate art, I hope they make it an option so people who prefer to only see the original stuff could do so. I also suspect alternate art would have to be an option on mobile, to keep the download size smaller for people who don't have the storage available.
We're going full MTG! Hearthstone can definitely use some variance. I just hope this is more of a global thing and not just select cards getting special treatment. Building a whole deck with a special type of vanity would be sick.
Though, I'd love to see special class frames on the field with upgraded frames in-hand and collection. Something that makes each one of them really pop. I could see a frost mage frame that could be applied to all mage cards. So much flavor potential!
I'm not sure how I feel about a card looking different in a collection and in the game. Sounds strange. But I'll give it benefit of the doubt.
I think it is a bad idea honestly, for 1 card to look differently in 3 places. It can be confusing as hell.
However... Introducing just nice alternate arts is great for the game. It gives existing players, or players who care about it, a goal to play towards.
I generally don't care that much about arts in HS... but I can see alternate cards being quite popular, and I think they should have introduced it a damn long time ago. It's a great way to monetize the game.
eh, I don't see the problem as long as they announce it properly.
It's not like Hearthstone was ever a champion of clarity anyways
