Will definitely see play in wild. Totems don't seem particularly strong in Standard at the moment, but some other reveals to support the archetype could be incoming.
In what deck exactly?
I was thinking I'd try it in even Shaman. Plenty of totem generation, plus Totem Golem. Should make it easier to play Thing from Below early.
As opposed to playing Jade Lightning, Flamewreathed Faceless or Draenei Totemcarver? Seems pretty bad.
Hmm, good point. I'll probably still try it out, but I might end up removing it sooner rather than later.
Unless another strong totem is added, I don't see why this is 4 cost. Maybe it'd be worth it if it was after swinging but as a battlecry? Meh
Premptive nerfing :P
Every time midrange/totem shaman was successful in the past their midrange/totem cards were nerfed into high mana cost oblivion. This is just to address the elephant in the room before you even invite it over for dinner.
Even-costed btw
Copy the lackey totem... Ez
That Lego orc has Balin's hair. thats weird.
about the card, I don't think it is that good. simply because by nature, Totem shaman is not good. minions with zero attack are not going to survive longer than 1 turn 90% of the time. so unless we get totems with really good immediate effects, than this weapon will never see the light of day. and even if we do get good totems, this weapon is 4 mana, which makes it hard to combo with.
Okay we finally get all epics for shaman (this and the plague), now waiting for the legendary minion.. which i think will support control deck (for the diversity of the archetype of the expansion)
Bundling this effect with a 3/2 weapon actually kinda hurts it because of the higher mana cost it demands. The totem that Shamans would like to copy the most is obviously Totem Golem but you really don't want it so bad that you'd wait for 6 mana to play it or defend your Totem Golem from turn 2 onwards so it lives until 4. However, it might be really powerful in combination with Thing from Below and Sea Giant, already common minions for Even Shaman. Even though you might copy a bunch of 0 attack garbage, the board flood might end up giving you the minion count you need to play the two above minions essentially for free along with a 3/2 weapon for clearing. In addition to that, such a flood of minions might be sufficiently tedious to clear that you could land a fairly solid Storm Bringer on 6 for a win.
Interesting. Does this mean we will see more Totem synergy? Totem is the only tribe without a Legendary since launch.
Copying most totems seems kind of boring, but where Splitting Axe could shine is in some other tribal deck (probably murlocs) that leverages Hench-Clan Hag and Nightmare Amalgam to go wide on the board. The 4 mana cost fits nicely with The Storm Bringer for a late-game swing if you need it.
Imo it should've been 3 mana overload 1 but maybe it turns out to be very powerful
There are 4 totems (aside from your hero power) in standard: Nightmare Amalgam, Flametongue Totem, Mana Tide Totem and Serpent Ward (I guess Hench-Clan Hag also summons 1/1 Amalgams). In Wild, you've got Totem Golem, Vitality Totem and Primalfin Totem. Out of this tiny pool of minions, the only one you would want to duplicate is Nightmare Amalgam or Totem Golem. Everything else is trash; if you're gameplan is to summon infinite basic totems, you're not going to win games.
However, if we get more Totem Shaman support, we may be able to use a small Totem package in decks, and this will probably be a fringe one-off inclusion.
EVIL Totem was already announced.
Looks like a niche weapon. Decent for totem decks.
Totem Golem
I like it because it means we’ll see more totem synergy. Shaman has the worst hero power in the game and should receive some support cards to make use of.
