Hearthstone’s Year of the Hydra 3rd Expansion Reveal – Live Recap!
Hearthstone’s third and final expansion for the Year of the Hydra is about to be revealed and we’re here to keep you updated with every kernel of information that’s to come! You can watch the stream on Twitch or on YouTube, or keep refreshing this page every couple of minutes – we’ll update the article as new cards, features and who knows what else, is revealed.
You can read through information chronologically right below this paragraph or scroll down to read it in a more organized fashion.
- March of the Lich King is the name of the set!
- Death Knight comes to Hearthstone as the 11th playable class.
- Death Knight Hero power: Summon a 1/1 Ghoul with Charge. It dies at the end of the turn.
- Unlock the Death Knight class by complete a special ‘Prologue’ solo adventure, gaining three premade DK decks for free.
- The Path of Arthas set can be purchased for 26 additional Death Knight cards and an additional three premade Death Knight decks.
- Defrost: 2-mana spell. Draw a card. Spend 2 Corpses to draw another. Image below.
- Corpse Explosion: 5-mana spell. Detonate a Corpse to deal 1 damage to all minions. If any are still alive, repeat this. Image below.
- Death Knights make use of the ‘Rune’ mechanic.
- During deck construction, there are three rune slots, which you can fill with any combination of Blood, Frost and Unholy runes.
- These runes dictate the kinds of Death Knight cards you can put into your deck. For example, Corpse Explosion requires 2 Blood Runes (see image below, under the mana cost), which means you can only put that card into your deck if you slotted 2 Blood Runes in!
- Card reveal fire-round! Check them out at the bottom of the post!
- Undead is a new minion type.
- Minions can now have two tags! For example, Patches the Pirate is now both a Pirate and a Demon!
- Lots of Undead minions in the new expansion.
- Lots of Blood Elves as well! The theme of the expansion explores Arthas’ conquest of Quel’thalas from back in Warcraft 3.
- New Mechanic: Manathirst. A card with Manathirst does something special if you’ve got that amount of mana (it doesn’t spend that mana for the effect!)
- New card type: Signature cards. They’re just regular cards but look fancier, like a different flavor of Diamond cards.
- The expansion launches December 6th.
- The Knight of The Frozen Throne Wild set is moving into the Core set now and will remain part of Standard for the whole month, until March of the Lich King launches!
- The Death Knight Core set contains 32 cards.
