Kind of a strange card: as a Hunter, 6 mana is a lot, and you spend it by basically doing nothing but filling your board with a worse Swarm of Locusts. Having 1 mana 5/5s in hand is relevant till a certain point, since Tundra Rhino is not Standard anymore, but there's to say that if Team 5 decided to print this *surprising* spell for Hunter there must be a reason we cannot see yet.
The Rat King is the first step in this direction, but I am eager to see what the devs have in mind for Hunter to become something else than pure Face.
Great design, good to see somethign different like this for Hunter. As stated b4 me, this could fill the board, but really you'd want to try get some value out of it and get a few 5/5s in hand. Hopefully something comes up to help counter agro hunter, and hunter can get a viable midrange build.
Rats, we're rats, we're the rats.
Cool idea. Tricky to execute - want to have a wide board AND be able to spend 6 mana with nothing but little 1/1s filling any open board slots.
But doing almost nothing with that 6 mana probably means you likely lose a substantial amount of the board advantage you had accomplished, and having some cheap vanilla 5/5s in addition to your other plays might not be enough to recover tempo.
That being said, someone with a bigger brain than me might figure out a meme-tastic combo to turn this into something impressive.
Rhino, nuff said 😎 you just transformed into a quest rogue 🤣
Its kinda bad honestly. Hunters dont tend to be defensive and since they can't heal every card past the 5 cost mark must do something extraordinary to even be considered, and considering that this card spawns rats that have neither rush nor taunt its really stretching the usefulness of this card.
Its basically a reload card for midrange or face hunter, assuming you'd even actually run this card. Maybe even deathrattle hunter can make use of this card. But more likely you'll be wishing for this card in a discover, because I dont think anyone would ever be putting this into their deck unironically.
The thing is, you can be defensive without just soaking damage. One way to do that is having really efficient rush minions and fighting for the board.
Not saying that's necessarily enough, but having the option to extend your gameplan while also playing the early game isn't exactly a bad strategy.
It'll be a stretch either way. The only reason why face hunter tends to have high health in the midgame is because the opponent understands the gameplan and therefore prioritize your minions. If there was even a hint that they need not be defensive they wouldn't even bother with your minions and just go face.
Sure you can continue fighting hard for board, and reduce as much damage as possible to your face. But to what end? deathrattle hunters have the midgame with strong and sticky minions. Primordial hunters have access to a strong late game. Are we really playing a slower hunter just so this card can shine?
Im not saying this card is necessarily useless. But there has got to either be a better reason to have a bunch of 5/5s in your hand, because as it stands a board of 1/1s that have neither rush nor taunt, at an eye watering 6 mana? Man that's a stretch.
Obviously there would need to be more payoff for going wide, but just in general, having the ability to generate a huge amount of stats to space out over multiple terms doesn't sound too bad.
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't pring something like this if there wasn't at least some sort of further payoff (even if that might not be in this set)
Wasted opportunity to name it "Chonker Rats" or smth
This is helping Hunter to have a more long term game. Having a few 5/5 in your hand for 1 mana is kinda scary
Buttercup: Westley, what about the R.O.U.S.'s?
Westley: Rodents of Unusual Size? I think they don't exist.
*gets attacked by one*
The only way to gain benefit of this is to cast this while your board is full, then trade minions with enemy's, then summon the 5/5 rats in your hand all within the same turn. A bigger threat than just a 1/1 body I think.
Still dies from Flamestrike spell.
If you get multiple 5/5 rats in hand, you don't need to play them all out on the same turn if you expect AoE. Instead, you do your normal plays and add in one 5/5 rat each turn for a few turns in a row; at some point the opponent is likely to run out of answers.
This is one way of saying, that you're doing greatly as a coach someday.
and i think there are gonna be other hunter cards that will support this weird kind of archetype ig
Yes, they just announced "The Rat King" that plays off of token synergy.
This might be viable in Standard, but even if it's not, I'm excited for Unseal the Vault in Wild.
I predict this is going to be a great aggro card
