Its basically big spell mage support. Because cheap spells is not what you want out of an 8 mana card. If this is played and the board isn't cleared or the opponent's face isn't dead, you're technically just forfeiting the game.
The hero power is cute, but not only are you investing in shooting minions (and therefore not face) it would be around turn 9 at that time, so what do you actually think the hp is really going to achieve when the base damage starts at 1.
Not sure if earlier Wildfire buffs actually transfer over. Chances are good that it does. I heard that something was done earlier to Frost Lich Jaina that basically resets the hp completely, but that may be specific to that dk and not to this.
i think if you play just wildfire as fire spell or you get lucky to new hero battlecry and it will be recasted as fire spell it should give your new hp a buff or ? it change your hp after battlecry or right away ? and then it starts battlecry ?
If we can believe the sequence of the animation then the new hero power will come first before the battlecry so if this repeats the Wildfire it should buff the new hp.
This heropower scales so much and mordresh loves it
You probably don't play Varden in the same deck as the quest, since they have opposite goals. Sorcerer's Gambit wants you to play a lot of spells of all 3 schools, whereas with Varden you want to specifically play spells that are good when you recast them (randomly). Probably good in elemental mage where you play a lot of minions and few spells, but elemental mage has never been a very good deck.
Elemental Mage was fantastic in KotFT, but I assume when you say Elemental Mage you mean something like Elemental Shaman.
What about a Hero Power deck where Wildfire is your primary Fire spell? Would the bonus damage carry over? I can't remember if it works with Frost Lich Jaina or not. Hell I don't even know what else you'd run off the top of my head; just brainstormin'. We need more spells that buff your Hero Power in different ways.
It used to carry over, but they changed it in one of the first patches after FitB dropped
Most people here are thinking of the normal three mage schools, but keep in mind Mask of C'Thun is a shadow spell.
It has no spell school
Either this was recently added in the latest patch or the one before it, but Mask of C'thun does have a spell school now which is shadow. I took a screenshot of it and the image is in the link below.
Mage's shadow spells
Is it? There doesn't appear to be a school attached to Mask; the block where the school goes is blank.
It's in the client att least. Guessing it's just not been updated at OoC. Good catch ilphelkir
idk, I don't like this rng factor in mage, this type of thing keep me away from my favorite class when I started playing
This is controlled RNG. If all you have are one type of each spell, then you can decide what happens. For example only running Blizzard, Flamestrike, and Counterspell.
Sigh...
Here I was hoping that I'd be able to escape from quest mage for a little bit.
You're not playing this in Quest Mage. That deck plays too many cards with targets, and if you play this then you're relying on those randomly cast spells hitting good targets.
You play this in a deck with very specific spells that don't have targets like Grand Finale or Counterspell.
This is probably way too expensive quest mage though. Youu have to remake the entire deck in order to fit this.
If you're right then I would be thrilled. I wouldn't mind quest mage if it was a little more in the control direction...and if they got rid of infinite face damage with ignite.
That hero power - oh boy.
