All the new Warrior cards for Voyage to the Sunken City have been revealed and in this article we're going to discuss how they will impact Wild in general and any specific decks they can fit into.
Here is how the cards will be rated:
- 5 stars means a card that can see a lot of play in meta defining and powerful decks
- 4 stars means a card that can see some play in the best decks and a lot of play in slightly less competitive meta decks
- 3 stars means a card that can see some play in less optimal meta decks or is good for some off meta decks
- 2 stars means a card that can see play in any deck, even if it's a very niche or weak archetype
- 1 star means a card that won't see any play at all
Nellie, the Great Thresher
Our Wild Rating
Nellie, the Great Thresher is quite powerful on its own, but it's too slow for Pirate Warrior. This can see play in Menagerie Warrior and Reno Warrior as a generally strong beast that also generates pirates, but at 7 cost it's just too slow to make those decks strong enough to be meta by itself when so many games end by then and Warrior has no ramp to play it early.
Lady Ashvane
Our Wild Rating
Is Lady Ashvane a better Captain Greenskin for non-pirate decks? Yes. Will it see play? Maybe in some really niche Weapon Warrior but otherwise no. For the vast majority of Warrior decks, even ones that run weapons, this is too slow and low impact the turn you play it to warrant a slot.
Trenchstalker
Our Wild Rating
Don't play Trenchstalker in Wild. It's too slow to come down and low impact when it does compared to what other decks are doing by turn 9. Sometimes it's going to deal 8 damage to the enemy hero, but other times it's just a 9 mana 8/9 that trades into 3 minions. It's not going to see play in Big Warrior because that deck cheats minions into play without activating Battlecries.
The Fires of Zin-Azshari
Our Wild Rating
If you want to play big minions early in Warrior, just play Big Warrior where you can put good big minions in your deck like Rattlegore instead of replacing your deck and hoping to get good ones.
Blackscale Brute
Our Wild Rating
Blackscale Brute is too slow for Taunt Warrior and any other deck that may play weapons would want it even less. Its effect is just too weak for Wild for 7 mana - games end by then so a 7 mana card has to have a bigger board swing to see play (Spreading Plague and Snowfall Guardian are good examples of very highly impactful 6+ cost cards that do see Wild play).
From the Depths
Our Wild Rating
From the Depths is mana cheat, but it's unreliable in that it's hard to control what this discount will hit. However, you can discover one of the discounted cards. You can think of this as discover a card from your deck, reduce its cost by 3, and put it on top of your deck. The other 4 cards that are discounted only matter if the game goes long or with Dredge or Sir Finley, Sea Guide to get to all the discounts faster. So this can be used to potentially cheat out a high cost card early. However, there don’t seem to be any Wild decks other than some really meme combo or Big decks that would want to put this card into their decks.
Obsidiansmith
Our Wild Rating
Obsidiansmith has good stats and a decent Battlecry. However, Pirate Warrior doesn't want this because it prefers to play 1 drops unless 2+ cost pirates are very powerful to complete the Raid the Docks Questline faster. This card is not powerful enough to see play there. In other decks, it's not impactful enough to see Wild play either.
Dragged Below
Our Wild Rating
Don't play Dragged Below in your Wild decks, there are so many weapons with better immediate impact and synergy.
Guard the City
Our Wild Rating
Guard the City is ok, but most Wild decks have a lot better options that synergize with their gameplan than just ok standalone cards.
Forged in Flame
Our Wild Rating
Forged in Flame won't see play in meta decks but it's quite a powerful card for a large number of off meta decks, with the ability to draw 5 from Blacksmithing Hammer.
Overall Set Score
Sunken City Wild Demon Hunter
This expansion is mostly useless for Warrior from a Wild perspective. A lot of niche cards for niche decks and nothing that should see meta play.
