Hello everybody and welcome to another Fan Community Spotlight. This time, we have a choice to make and not that much time to do so. Our project this time around is a custom set made by a person by the name of Hamilton, and the set in question is an expansion called Anomalies of Time and Cult. The set even has its own teaser video.

Anomalies of Time and Cult is centralized around two groups of classes. The Time Travelers are represented by Mage, Rogue, Priest, Paladin, Shaman and Druid. The Cultists are represented by Warlock, Demon Hunter, Death Knight, Hunter, and Warrior.

The set comes with its own keyword, Chronocast. Cards with Chronocast, like Strike Harder or Thought Stealer, have a bonus effect that triggers X turns after you play it. In the case of minions, it doesn't need to stay alive after being played. After you play it, you'll receive the bonus after X turns no matter what happens. Cards with Chronocast are found either on Neutral cards or classes that are part of the Time Travelers.

Speaking of time, if you look at Rewind It! and Roll Back, you'll also notice the new Time spell school. Cards with the Time spell school are only found in the Time Traveler classes.

Let's give the floor to Hamilton now.

What exactly is this set about? What is the inspiration for the set theme?

Hamilton: "My main inspiration was Saviors of Uldum. Specifically, League of Explores vs League of Evil. The idea of two different archetypes/ideas for an expansion made me think about splitting one in half. That’s where all it started, especially cause a lot of classes have time travel themes already (mage, paladin, priest) and other had a lot of room for sacrificing themes (warlock, demon hunter, death knight) so it fit like a glove for what I wanted to do."

What is the inspiration for the Chronocast mechanic and how you use it?

Hamilton: "One of the first things I had about the expansion was a keyword for both themes, but didn’t go to well cause all the cult classes had kinda different ideas, and most of the classes were in the time theme, so I decided to do one more inspirated in those, obviously It had to fit the theme: an effect that takes some time to activate to give you a bigger payoff, it was perfect for it."

What part of the set was the most fun to design?

Hamilton: "Probably the cult classes. Specially Warrior, I was so hyped about the idea of spending armor to get bigger stuff, for a dead class right now it was a very good power up in all senses, definitely would design 20 more cards for it if I could!"

Are there any other cards you wish to showcase for any reason?

Hamilton: "There is a couple cards that never made into the actual set, because of set size in general, but there was one I really liked but couldn’t put on it: Generations Encounter, this one had a big flavour for the set and a very cool effect, unfortunately, was a double class card which was not included in the set, and didn’t fit any of the classes’ themes at all, so I had to scrap it."

Do you have anything behind the scenes that you wish to share?

Hamilton: "In case people don’t know, I programmed and host the website the set is currently on, the code itself for the site has around 1500 lines of programming, and I took 2 weeks in total to make It all, it was a big challenge but I’m so glad I made it."

How long have you been making your own cards? What design philosophies do you have that you wish to share and spread to new creators?

Hamilton: "I have been playing HS since GvG and creating cards since 2015 by myself (obviously the first ones were very silly), but I really got good of it in the last months, because I really got in the right way following very simple rules: Making the cards as enjoyable and flavourfull as possible for the archetype, making so all cards have some space to be played, not only to just fill gaps, and making the cards so they have some sort of possible counterplay if the outcome is too big, we really don’t like cards like Tickatus where you can not do anything about it lol."

Do you have anything else you wish to share?

Hamilton: "I want to share that I’m already working in my next expansion! I posted some previews in the CHS Discord, the theme is going to be “The Ironforge Gallery”, each class will be assigned with a different art theme and will have its own cards following that theme! This one will be much more flavourful and the site for this one will be much better as well, so stayed tuned for it! And really wanted to thank Demonxz95 for the opportunity of sharing it here, it means a lot to me."

It looks like we are out of time for this installment. But down below is a banner which you can click to go to the entire set.
