Hearthstone's Caverns of Time Expansion Has Arrived Ahead of Twist's Launch Tomorrow

Published 2 years, 3 months ago by

Almost three dozen new cards have launched into Hearthstone's Wild format today in the first-ever direct-to-wild expansion, Caverns of Time. This is the big Wild update that was teased on this year's roadmap. These cards cannot be used in Standard.

The new set boasts 34 new cards, 7 of which are legendaries, and 113 buffed reprints of older cards, with all the cards being available in a new type of card pack. That's not where the fun ends though because 15 of the older cards, including many fan-favourites and a certain Pirate that is groan-inducing, have received the signature card treatment - more on that in a moment.

The new set is primarily aimed at making some Wild cards more affordable, since they were also buffed and thus more likely to be usable in Wild now, but this also puts a great spin on Twist with older cards from many sets coming together. Additionally, a new round of "battle-ready decks" are now available that are usable in both Wild and Twist and can be purchased through the following options:

  • Individual decks (for Gold or money).
  • Bundles of 3 decks for a lower price (for Runestones or money).
  • Lite versions of the decks, which are cheaper, but have lower dust value (for Gold or money).

Caverns of Time New Cards

While the buffed cards are certainly interesting, 34 new cards are being introduced that are only available in Wild and by extension Twist. Note that there are no Death Knight or Demon Hunter cards since the expansion is focusing on "the before times" which also means that both classes are not playable in Twist. What a twist. Also, please note that our location cards do not render very well and we need to fix this.

If you are looking for the full list of cards, you can find them in our Caverns of Time guide.

  • Also just letting you guys know that there's no duplicate protection on Caverns of times packs. It's mentioned in the known issues here: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/hearthstone/t/272-known-issues/112122/87

Wouldn't recommend opening those packs till they fix the issue.

  • Just want to mention that putting both brann and thaurissan into those battle-ready decks for sale is kinda a dick move to reduce its actual value relative to the price paid. Even with three decks for 40 bucks, you're realistically only getting 3 legendaries and even then there's stuff like Fandral Staghelm which has been genuinely obsolete for some time now.

  • What a twist !
