Priest has been one of those Hearthstone classes that gets a lot of hate from the community and even Blizzard themselves haven't been too thrilled about the class. Hearthstone's Dean Ayala talked about Divine Spirit and the Priest class as a whole almost 6 months ago stating something may be done around the next set rotation.
Well, Dean, you were right. Priest has received those "sweeping changes" you teased us with and it's time we take a look at what is happening to Hearthstone's Priest class. Let's dive in!
Stay tuned for an analytical look at the new cards in a future article.
The New Basic & Classic Priest Cards
Since some cards are being rotated out to the Hall of Fame, we're getting new ones to replace them!
- Shadow Word: Ruin - (4): Destroy all minions with 5 or more Attack.
- Scarlet Subjugator - (1) 2/1: Battlecry: Give an enemy minion -2 Attack until your next turn.
- Psychic Conjurer - (1) 1/1: Battlecry: Copy a card in your opponent's deck and add it to your hand.
- Power Infusion - (4): Give a minion +2/+6.
- Natalie Seline - (8) 8/1: Battlecry: Destroy a minion and gain its Health.
- Kul Tiran Chaplain - (2) 2/3: Battlecry: Give a friendly minion +2 Health.
The Old Priest Cards Getting Changed
Some Priest cards are getting changed rather than completely switching out. It's nice to see some familiar faces.
- Shadow Madness is now 3 mana, down from 4.
- Thoughtsteal is now 2 mana, down from 3.
- Temple Enforcer is now 5 mana, down from 6. Attack has changed from 6 to 5.
- Shadow Word: Death is now 2 mana, down from 3.
- Power Word: Shield is now 0 mana, down from 1. No longer draws a card.
- Holy Smite now deals 3 damage, up from 2. The damage may only target a minion.
- Holy Nova now costs 4 mana, down from 5.
The Priest Cards Being Hall of Famed
Some of our friends in the Priest class are being moved to the Hall of Fame. Due to the move, if you own any of these cards you will receive their crafting value in full upon set rotation.

My bae and first love :o.. Northshire Cleric
Gone but not forgotten <3
I own so many priest golden cards but.. none of those I happened to get in golden :/ oh well I still have all the cards so it's
2800 dust
We were once close to have a viable standard Shadowform Priest's archetype ...
In Wild we trust!
Nope, Shadowreaper Anduin will ALWAYS outclass it, Shadowform is a dead card.. well it was never actually close to viable.
and now with raza unnerfed it's a really powerful deck again.
I think this is overall a good direction to go in. Priest always had the problem that the good decks weren't fun and the fun decks weren't good. Also for a class that's supposed to be good at healing minions, in practice that healing was used more for side effects like drawing cards off Northshire Cleric or buffing Lightwarden than for keeping your minions alive.
I enjoyed the combo style priest decks and hated the thief ones, so fun is subjective
Just wait 'till the new expac arrives and they're just tweaked versions of the HoF'd cards.
Tbh, I think it's dumb for Lightning Bolt to maintain Overload 1, when Priest get Holy fire no penalty. Overload was a Tax to pay in trade off for a good effect for cheap. Just like Soulfire is deal 4 for 1(originally 0) and discard a card. Yes they have cards to interact with Overload, but keeping it on Lightning bolt just because... just doesn't make sense to me.
Lightning Bolt can hit face.
There are no words that can describe how much i i hate priest as a class and Anduin as a character
But there is a card for it: Shut up, Priest.
Oh, it seems that i totally forgot about this card
We need this one a right now in standard play!
Does anyone know, how HoF'ing of basic cards works?
As Northshire Cleric has no dust value you dont get any dust, right?
If i own 2 normal and a golden copy, do i get 1 normal and 1 golden or 2 + 1?
If i level my priest to a degree, when i would have 2 golden Northshire Clerics, but after they get HoF'ed, do i get the missing cleric?
For number 3, I believe if you leveled after they rotated out, you’d only get the card that replaced it, not the one that rotated out.
For all intents and purposes, once they rotate out they are no longer basic cards.
Northshire Cleric would become a Common card after being HoF'd, like it happened with Mind Blast and Vanish.
1. basic cards will be changed to common cards
2. you get the max value from the 2 (1 for legendary) cards. So, 1 golden + x normal = dust for 1 golden and 1 common
3. I don't know, probably not because you can craft it then
For all the power increase the new cards give, for all the buffs the old cards get, without ol' Northshire Cleric, all remains silent.
I'll be missing this card the most. With Acolyte of Pain moving on too, I guess priest will genuinely have a problem drawing cards now.
Thoughtsteal becoming relevant : 2020
Yes, card draw is going to be a problem, card draw was even removed from Power Word: Shield!
Rejoice, my fellow Priests! The Day has finally come!
Can you, please, give me a „GREETINGS!"
I don't really get why Auchenai Soulpriest had to be axed.
All the others make sense. Cleric and Spirit were a given and Holy Fire and Shadow Form, while not really problematic, are simply relics of a playstyle they won't support, so there's really no reason to keep them around (even though I'm still pissed why they decided to keep Mindgames around out of all things).
However Auchenai was never really a problem, nor does it depend on specific support. They've always printed healing effects for Priest that don't just target allies. Auchenai + Circle was one of the most iconic combos in the game in the old days. The only reason I could possibly imagine is that they're printing some sick healing spells that would absolutely wreck with Soulpriest still around. I guess we'll see..
