Druid is always a good house for this kind of cards, looking forward to playing it.
I think it's a bit questionable in constructed but it will be a powerhouse (though not that often seen) in Arena.
It's a strong tempo card, you'll always have soemthing to play on curve with it
I honestly don't think this card is that bad. Compare it to Siamat, it is the same mana cost and it still has rush, you are only losing one keyword to replace the card in your hand. Plus it isn't a battlecry which makes it a lot better with Strength in Numbers. Plus, now we have the new dormant demon who can make this sucker cost 2, or the 8 mana minion cost 3.
This is probably one of the best 7 drop minions to play right on curve, it is proactive and big. Plus you have to consider that this is not just a single card, this is a whole archetype for druid. Embiggen druid was a thing for a while and then slowly crept away, but it isn't a bad deck. If the meta is right, I think Big Druid will be a powerful deck.
Seems very strong to me, 8 drops are very good now even more that Hir'eek, the Bat rotated to wild
8 drops have pretty much always been the best on average.
Basically play a 7 drop that generate an 8 drop.
In other words; NOPE
And why does that equal "NOPE"?
Perhaps more snark than explanation, so I guess I deserve the flak
No constructive druid deck needs this. A random 8 drop seems fine in theory, but from what we saw of druid archetypes, druid doesnt ever run out of things to play, not even embiggen druid. If they skip a turn, its most likely because a) they dont have enough mana, or b) to activate quest, or c) they are going to die and there's no taunt minion. A 7/7 rush is fine, and I'm not going to take that away its a really good effect and on curve too, but if cards like Oondasta couldn't make it to the tier 1 list of embiggen druid, I'm skeptical of the chances of a card that establishes less tempo and provides value to a deck that typically doesnt need it.
Also, let's not forget how cards like Winged Guardian made the list; its a taunt, and its untargetable. No matter the size of the minion, if it doesnt protect face at turn 7, there's always going to be some amount of skepticism, and if its targetable it means it doesnt hard counter classes like rogue or mage, 2 of the most popular classes currently.
But, as usual, since we dont have the full list of AoO, there might be more support for this card in future. As for now, my bets on this not making it.
I think the only problem with Oondasta is that it doesn't curve well: if you have an Amani War Bear or Winged Guardian in your hand, you want to play that when you reach 7 mana, not keep it in your hand until you can play Oondasta. Marsh Hydra on the other hand supports your curve.
Even with Strength in Numbers, curve is important: if Oondasta is great when summoned from the deck but not when summoned from hand, it improves those games where you are already doing well, aka "win more".
Edit: Also, after this attacks is easier to satisfy than overkill: you can run the Hydra into Evasive Drakonid or a Tirion from Zephrys and still get the effect.
Do you run this in Embiggen-Druid? Seems to be pretty good if you'd pull it from Strength in Numbers.
This card looks terrible, but if I see a hydra wearing full plate armour with visors on each head, I'm running for the hills.
I wouldn‘t exactly say terrible..
A 7/7 rush with beast synergy that generates an on curve threat is at least a Win-more card.
But i agree, it would need some help to see play.
Did anyone remember wargolem?
Terrible as in weak? Fair stats with Rush and a guaranteed on-curve play for next turn (strength of 8-drops may vary), so is it though? It doesn't currently have a deck where it would be auto-included (unless Embiggen wants it) but I don't see the card itself as weak.
I agree that on its own it looks pretty damn strong, and this is also what my first impression was as well, but in my opinion, there's no deck that wants this. Of course, it's great to buff with Embiggen and to pull from Strength in Numbers, but with the amount of big stuff that's already in the deck, this just feels like a win-more card. If Blizzard has something in mind for this card then I'm willing to eat my words, but as of right now it looks like a card that would be great but has no place in the decks that Druid has to offer.
When I said terrible I was exaggerating, but what I meant was that I don't see a Druid deck that runs this card as of right now. All the big beast support cards (e.g. Oondasta, Stampeding Roar and Predatory Instincts) and most of Druid's slower control-esque tools (e.g. Ferocious Howl, Flobbidinous Floop and Wardruid Loti) will be rotated, and I'm sceptical if Blizzard is willing to print more cards that support the archetype.
how is it a win-more card? One of the things EMbiggen Druid likes the most is playing proactive stuff. It doesn't get more proactive than a 7/7 wuth rush that also generates more stuff to play should you run out of cards.
Honestly I could see this replacing Oasis Surger.
Rush Minions are always good, especially when you pull them for free and Embiggen Druid wants to lay on the pressure in the mid to lategame and this makes sure you get more big stuff to play.
Not sure if this replaces Oasis Surger. Oasis Surger is really flexible card and it scales very well with Embiggen.
Leeroy Jenkins and Zilliax rotate out, so Embiggen Druid will search for replacements... and Marsh Hydra might just fill that Mid-turn void.
Beetle berries my FAVORITE~
I'm probably going to get downvoted into oblivion or reported for saying this...
released right after the whole Big Beast support package from Druid rotates
