Which direction for priest after rotation?

Submitted 5 years, 1 month ago by

Does anybody have any idea on what priest will become after the rotation?

At the moment I only see a "value"/control direction with the spirits, the 7/8 taunt and some other big(ger) stuff. However I don't see how priest would survive in standard without the board clears. Would we use healing circle again as a 2 card board clear?

Anyway for me it's still very unclear if priest would be any good. If you have a good idea/direction let me know :-)

Priest has always had a board clear in each Year. Actually, with Psychic Scream moving to Wild, Mass Hysteria is what remains (if it will not be enough they'll probably print another one in the expansion set after RoS).

I might not have been 100% clear. My biggest concern/question is that I only see late game win conditions for priest (standard) but that with the one remaining board clear we will not be able to reach that stage consistently.

My question would be if people see another direction for priest and/or if my concerns are not valid at all (and yes we don't know all the cards meta yet so it's more contemplating about this with the current information we have).

As a wild player I'm really concerned about big priest now. This deck is getting more resurrect tools and it might become really oppresive.

As of standard I'm pretty sure that wall priest still will be played.

Well I also play wild priest (but reno) but I'm not yet sure if big priest will use the ros tools.

Wall priest  loses shadow visions and that makes the deck a lot worse. Also the spellstone and the 4 mana resurrect as well as psychic scream. Just try to play a wall priest without those tools (keeping the spellstone because of the new 9 mana resurrect) and you will notice how weak it is

For Standard, considering what they're revealing right now in the final stream, Silence Priest will be something: overstated minions with bad effects and new interesting silence effects to make them able to attack.

Nothing too new, but still better than the Ress archetype.

Yeah that seems to be the case, but still quite slow (high mana costs). We'll see if the meta will be slow enough, but I feel priest didn't get a lot of great cards this expac.

    I hope I'm wrong though ;-

I'm playing rez/wall priest in Standard and doing ok, and the buff to extra arms makes me want to try a zoo priest deck running surrender to madness! but I can't imagine that will be very good, Extra Arms is now a potentially good spell, but we don't really have any other strong tempo plays (well maybe a few weird Vargath combos, but nothing consistent), we just don't have good enough minions in Standard.

God knows what direction the devs have in mind for us, I thought Reckless experimenter looked like a potentially powerful build around card, but now that's been nerfed I can't see that working (having to wait until at least t6 before playing a dr in the same turn as RE is a HUGE deal), not sure the devs really know which way they see us developing either.

My bet is we get another expansion of random stuff that makes zero sense, and then the expansion after that we'll get something really good and annoy everyone once more!
