[Game] Card Treasure Hunt (The Resurrection Attempt)

I found the original one pretty neat, let’s see how this goes...

To quote the legendary Riosix:

It's a treasure hunt using your Hearthstone card collection. I'll start it off with a riddle, and you try to figure out what card I'm talking about. First one to answer correctly picks a new card and makes the next riddle. Make it as difficult as you want, just not impossible :)

I’ll start with:

Alone I’m quite fearsome,

you better watch out,

but doubled I’m more than tripled,

and my gurgle - a mighty shout.

  • Abusive Sergeant? Although I’m not sure what a yeti has to do with it

  • No to either of those, but DestroyerR is the closest so far.

  • spiteful smith?

  • I think the Yeti-line refers to a minion which costs 4 and has worse stats than Chillwind Yeti. My first guess is Arathi Weaponsmith, although the line about the draft might imply that it's a neutral card so everybody can draft it.

Edit: We're also probably looking for a common, since the effect is "commonly" used.
Edit 2: If you're okay with that, I'd like to add Dark Iron Dwarf as my neutral guess.

  • Dark Iron Dwarf is correct.

    It's a popular Arena common.

It has the same effect as Abusive Sergeant but has never been used in Constructed.

It costs the same as Chillwind Yeti but the stats are just short of beating it.

When you summon him, he says "You call that a weapon? Hah!"

    Your turn!

  • I descent on silent wings

I am one and many things

Fear my flame and fear my breath

Ignoring me will be your death

  • This is tricky because if my reasoning is right there's about 3-5 cards this might potentiality be. I'll start with Scion of Ruin?

Line 1 - descent (as opposed to descend) mean from DoD + wings = dragon or other flying minion

Line 2 - one and many meaning one card that generates multiple copies

Line 3 - again being dragon, plus Scion (or other red dragon) appears in Molten Breath

Line 4 - must clear or Dragon Breeder(s) can produce a ton more.

  • Wrong guess, though most of your reasoning is correct.

  • That's what I figured - so guess #2 on the same reasoning would be Waxadred.

  • Waxadred it is, well done!

  • This one might be easy (?), but trying to change the formats up a little with a single, clue-filled line:

That know-it-all will be green with envy if I'm able to swap the treasure out from under her big beak!

  • Nope but good guess as the "swap" function is part of this

  • Alright so no other guesses then it's hint time: the line has three main clues, some of which have more than one part of the line:

That know-it-all (1) will be green (2) with envy if I'm able to swap (3) the treasure (1 & 2) out from under her (1) big beak (2)!

1 - this card has a callback to an older card & its mechanic

2 - references to the card art, that are also part of the callback

3 - has a swap mechanic as noted before

  • Oh hey look at that: a list of cards with a "swap" effect. Crazy!

    https://outof.cards/hearthstone/cards/?text=Swap&collectible=true

  • Mischief Maker?

I'm not sure how well that fits, but it's the closest thing I see.

  • That’s correct!

The crux of the clue is the treasure: the Golden Monkey. That’s in Mischief Makers art and is a call back to the “know-it-all” who was originally looking for it - Elise Starseeker. The “green” references the goblin doing the swap and the “beak” is the chicken with which she’s swapping the monkey

  • No one knows what I will do

    Aggressive, defensive, bringing friends

But my balance is most askew

    Wielded by uneven hands

  • Sorry ArngrimUndying, I actually thought of Mischief Maker but had no time to look up the name of the card or create a new riddle so I didn't answer.

So an unpredictable, versatile, odd-costed card... Shudderwock?

  • It's not Shudderwock.

  • Dragonqueen Alexstrasza? Odd + Can bring aggressive or defensive friends and pretty out of balance based on what you get?

  • It's not Dragonqueen either.

  • Obligatory 'one day later' hint.

The uneven hands aren't just an odd card, but a card from an odd deck.

  • Baku the Mooneater?

Most of it lines up I suppose.

    • Quote From MurlocAggroB

      Obligatory 'one day later' hint.

The uneven hands aren't just an odd card, but a card from an odd deck.

I'm not sure I understand the distinction in your hint - if the card is from an odd deck then it would have to be an odd-costed card? Or am I missing something and you're just saying the deck is "weird" odd, not ODD odd

  • I mean it's a popular from a Baku the Mooneater deck. Maybe not anymore (I don't play Wild), but it was back in 2018.

  • Stonehill Defender?

Broken card in Odd Warrior/Paladin that can generate random powerful defensive or aggressive taunts.

  • It's not Stonehill Defender.

In the interest of moving away from my indecipherablely vague riddle, it's a card that has a random effect that can specifically be something aggressive, something that summons minions, or one of two defensive options.

(This is what I get when I pick cards by hitting 'random page' on the Hearthstone wiki).

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Then it has to be Unidentified Maul?

  • Is it Level Up!?

  • Yes, it's Unidentified Maul. It can give +1 Attack to all minions, give Divine Shield, Taunt, or summon two Recruits.

    Your turn.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

And sometimes by a priest most strange

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Yup. That was easier than I thought.🤔

    You're next

  • It was a total blind guess based entirely on the fire/stone thing so don't feel bad. This is not my best work but hopefully not too bad?

A stout tech card so fine

I don't fear horns pointy, claws sharp, or breath hot.

Is this FINALLY my expansion to shine?

    No, turns out it's not...

  • Yep! Guess mine was fairly easy too. Your turn.

  • So it's about 2 days later - I'd say if DestroyerR doesn't come back in the next few hours, the next go is open to whoever wants it.

  • Here, sorry

    8, 8, 6, 8

  • Chromaggus?

EDIT: Actually, it's Anomalus isn't it?

  • Got it with the edit :P

    your turn!

  • Sorry for the delay. Midterm stress and some good ol' writers block.

    My gifts are unpredictable

    From murlocs to the moon.

My power could make fences glow

Or grief you 3 mana gloom.

  • Is it Brightwing? "Unpredictable" means were looking for a RNG card. This could give you Scargil or Baku the Mooneater (in wild)... not sure about the glowing part though. That sounds like the card has a conditional effect which makes it glow in your hand when it's fulfilled.

  • It's not Brightwing, but you're on the right track.

  • Could it be as simple as Plague of Murlocs? Random, murloc, 3 mana. I don't see how it fits the other clues, though :/

  • Anyone playing Rogue instantly understands it's Pharaoh Cat

  • Absolutely is. Your go.

  • Let's do something quick and without rhymes to get that over with

    When all else rised

    It was my fall

  • "Rised" could be refering to Rise of Shadows. When that expansion was released, Ungoro, Frozen Throne and Kobolds rotated, so it could be any card from those. Then there's the HoF'ing of Divine Favor, Doomguard and Naturalize. Since the riddle is written from a first person view and there's only one minion card among the HoF'ed candidates, I go with Doomguard.

@DestroyeR: are you still updating the leaderboard in the original post? I could help with a quick count.

  • Still updating, but thanks!

  • Is it Khadgar? He fell when shadows rose.

  • I just dm'ed Iioo, asking him to come back to us and see if someone got it right. I suggest if he doesn't do so within the next 24 hours, anyone with a good idea can post the next riddle.

  • Time's up, the next round is up for grabs. Who has an idea?

  • i do heres mine

For  things that seem out of place i play

For a reward i will soon earn

    A gate of old

And then my time starts anew.

    • the riddle is kinda wack but i did my best

  • A neutral reprint of a red card with black,

Like a mollusk I carry my bed on my back.

Those explorers - I don’t have to tell you - are lame!

They wish they were as popular as my cousin (of Darkstalkers fame).

    • Quote From DescentOfDragonsOp

You know, your guess makes a LOT more sense than mine. I was too distracted by the "I carry my bed on my back" bit.

      • yeah the thing that got me was the red card with black

and the class with red is warrior

however it could be the deathwing from whispers of the old gods

  • No to either of those - and on Deathwing you've got the idea but have it reversed: the card in the riddle is the neutral reprint of a Wild warrior card with a black character. Though to qualify that - it is NOT a reprint of the same character (like Deathwing/Malygos/Ysera); its a reprint in that it has the same effect and (mostly) same stats

  • Seaforium Bomber? You could say this is a "reprint" of Iron Juggernaut

  • No to Bomber or Tauren Warrior

And by Wild I mean any Wild card: adventurers or rotated sets, though the clue does mention "explorers" so perhaps that means something (or even BOTH somethings)...?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Wrapped Golem?

A neutral reprint of a red card with black,Obsidian Destroyer

Like a mollusk I carry my bed on my back. - he's tied to his coffin

Those explorers - I don’t have to tell you - are lame! - from the Year of the Dragon, on the EVIL side

They wish they were as popular as my cousin (of Darkstalkers fame). - Anakaris from Darkstalkers games looks just like Wrapped Golem

  • Risky Skipper

i mean its kinda similar to Animated Berserker

  • Wrapped Golem it is JFK! You've got most of the logic correct - the "explorers" clue was a double-hint: because the Golem was from Saviors of Uldum and Obsidian Destroyer was from League of Explorers - so both "explorer" sets.

  • gg jfk

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Thanks!

    A mechanic still in alpha

And low health make him weird,

But if you manage to see him charge

He sweeps ahead, his enemies cleared

  • I want to say Magma Rager, or some other form of Rager. Though I am pretty sure that is not it.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    No, not a Rager.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Yes, that's right! You're next.

  • should we give him another week then if he doesnt respond turn it over the the public?

    • Quote From DescentOfDragonsOp

should we give him another week then if he doesnt respond turn it over the the public?

how about we give him 24 hours. That is more than enough time to make a riddle.

  • umm its been a bit do we turn it over to the public??

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Yup, I think it's time. First come, first served!

  • okayy here we  go

A new reprint of a old card i see

He doesn't uses the same flavor indeed

if the time comes when he is played

Stampeding dinos come to his aid

  • I used to be an archetype, all on my own

Now I perform many wonders unknown

I am better than anyone, no one surpasses me

I am not a dragon. (Maybe)

  • Puzzle Box of Yogg-Saron ?

I used to be an archetype, all on my own ( pretty sure there was some yogg archetypes)

Now I perform many wonders unknown (the puzzle box is pretty random)

I am better than anyone, no one surpasses me (He is an old god)

I am not a dragon. ( Yogg aint a dragon)

    • Beat me to it by a minute!

  • Nope. But good guess.

  • Also wrong.

I edited the riddle a little bit because I am not sure if the last line was entirely clear. I think it may have the opposite effect that I was hoping for.

  • Aha yes I had thought Reno Jackson but took your "not a dragon" at face value.

    • Quote From ArngrimUndying

Aha yes I had thought Reno Jackson but took your "not a dragon" at face value.

      You are so close.

  • So then The Amazing Reno?

  • The Amazing Reno

I used to be an archetype, all on my own (renolock)

Now I perform many wonders unknown ( cast random spells)

I am better than anyone, no one surpasses me ( he is amazing)

I am not a dragon. (Maybe) * at the end of galakrond awakening reno was confirmed to be a dragon*

  • Yeah, ArngrimUndying is correct.

  • Nice. This one might be easy, but it has also been my favorite one to write so ‾\_(ツ)_/‾

If a pun is fun then space is the place

For pinging all over (maybe even face).

Ice is nice but fire is higher

    Your hand size will aggrandize

    A forecast that’s dire!

  • Sure is - good job JFK

    A hideous monster, strangely distort

Lizard? Beast? It has both hair and scales

Its frenzy created so many tales

  • Shudderwock

A hideous monster, strangely distort (shudderwock does look kinda wierd)
Sharp claws reach for the throat . (could be reffering to the voice line
Lizard? Beast? It has both hair and scales (he does have both)

Its frenzy created so many tales (day 1 shudderwock shaman shenanigans)

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

It's not Shudderwock, but the theme is mostly correct.

  • Is it Bandersmosh then?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

None of those. It's not actually a legendary or a big flashy minion. Also, no one really got the throat thing.

  • Vicious Scalehide? Mainly guessing that because of the combo with Dire Frenzy being so key in midrange Best Hunter this past year (plus it fit the general description clues)

  • hm... I tried looking for direct hints but all I came up with is Frenzied Felwing. It fits the description of having hair and scales but the rest of it seems off. The crossed out "throat" might suggest that the minion we're looking for has no throat or that it's claws are reaching out for something else which rhymes with throat. "So many tales" suggests that it's an old card, basic or classic set.

  • Scaled Nightmare?

    this is a wild guess

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

ArngrimUndying got it, it's Vicious Scalehide!

The crossed out throat means it can't attack heroes, aka Rush.

  • Oh I had thought the throat was maybe "slashed throat" i.e. a reference to Cutthroat Buccaneer since they're both from Witchwood lol. Anyways here we go:

    When more means less

    I'll spark help to address

Any minions you think are making a mess

So victory is assured; don't even stress!

  • Thunderhead ?

    When more means less (overload)

I'll spark help to address (whenever you overload he summons sparks)

Any minions you think are making a mess (idk)

So victory is assured; don't even stress! (idk)

  • Yep Thunderhead it is - I guess mine are pretty easy these days! YOu're right on the first two lines and that 3rd line mentioned minions since the Sparks have rush so good for board trading. The 4th line has no meaning just needed to finish the rhyme. Your turn.

  • this should be easy

In a desert with treasure and ruin

    A strange people gather

The people,A full board all alike

Come To summon their ancient keeper of the sun

  • One gives two for two

    It is used by none

    Save those who won

    In league with the moon

  • No but definitely the right direction. Maybe even the right deck (not completely sure).

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Could it be Gloom Stag? I might be crazy, but your description eerily fits Odd Druid.

  • Nope. It is a druid card though.

  • Cenarius?

One gives two for two (he gives minions +2/+2)

It is used by none . (idk)

Save those who won (he could come in clutch)

In league with the moon (idk)

Or it could be or Virmen Sensei or Strongshell Scavenger

  • Nope. No one has figured out the first line correctly so far...

  • Rising Winds?

Twinspell that give two cards/minions and costs 2 mana

Isn't used much outside of people playing completed Untapped Potential

  • Nope, but you are indeed looking for a spell.

  • None of those, but I have to admit that Lunar Visions fits the riddle better than the card I had in mind :D

  •

    Embiggen

One gives two for two ( gives minions +2/+2 with the plus 1 mana cost)

It is used by none . ( only used in one druid deck)

Save those who won  (embiggen is the win condition in embiggen druid)

In league with the moon (there is a moonkin in the card art)

  • Nope. But yes, it is a card from the standard sets.

  • I can't get the right version so to show, so just pasting the image:

    Moonfire(111).png

This Moonfire does 2 dmg & comes off the Choose one from Keeper of the Grove

Never used unless it's a kill shot with Spell Dmg combos

Name obviously but also moonkin in the art.

  • Wow. Incredible how you thought of that card. Sadly it's not the right one, I would never ask after a token.

But you are right, the last two lines refer to Moonfire.

So what you are looking for is a druid spell from a standard set which was (as far as I know) exclusively played in a deck revolving around the moonfire OTK. The last piece of the picture is the first line of the riddle.

  • Wrath?

One gives two for two  ( deals 1 damage and draws a card

It is used by none . ( only used in malygos druid

Save those who won  (moonfire otk)

In league with the moon (moonfire otk)

  • Nope.

  • HA! I was just trying to think of druid cards that had "moon" relations and did 2 dmg so there we go...

    Biology Project

The one mana card gives 2 mana to both players and is never played outside of very aggressive ramp combos like Moonfire OTK

  • That's correct! Well done, you're next :)

    • Quote From ArngrimUndying

HA! I was just trying to think of druid cards that had "moon" relations and did 2 dmg so there we go...

      Biology Project

The one mana card gives 2 mana to both players and is never played outside of very aggressive ramp combos like Moonfire OTK

thats probably it i kept thinking of 2 for 1 packages i origionally thought of Starfall becuase of the synergy with Untapped Potential which is in some moonfire otk decks

  • To get out of this, you'll need to be flexible

Perhaps try some stretching or yoga?

    No place to hide,

    with death on each side!

At least there are no Dianoga?

  • Nope

  • Yep you've got it!

For those who don't know/care enough to look it up: the "dianoga" was the monster in the trash compactor scene in Star Wars: New Hope. I figured that would be a dead giveaway given the card art plus the flavor text literally being dialogue from that scene.

  • Didn't know that, but cool story and a great riddle!

    Give me a board

    Give me a brother

    Take up the sword

    No need to bother

  • Nope.

  • None of those. The first line is a bit tricky...

  • Heroic Innkeeper?

Not sure about the brother line but she needs a board and has a sword...

  • No, sorry.

First hint: the riddle only asks for a board. Some cards directly or indirectly do things with the opponent's side of it. You are looking for one of them.

  • Nope.

  • Negative. Second hint: the sword is a metaphor.

  • Mind Control Tech

Needs a big enemy board and gains a "brother" after taking one?

  • No. The "brother" is not generated by the card you're looking for.

  • It is a legendary, but not that one.

  • Feugen

if this is wrong i would like a hint

  • Negative. Hint: It's the centerpiece of an OTK-deck.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Gonk, the Raptor?

Give me a board - It works when your opponent has minions.

Give me a brother - A twin brother.

Take up the sword - Your hero has to attack.

No need to bother - Not 100% sure, maybe because you die attacking all the minions.

  • That's absolutely correct JFK, you're next!

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Good try, but no.

  • Grand Lackey Erkh

Wretched master from old times (idk)
Evil spawns do tiny crimes (lackey's are 1/1)
Although the fiends are finally great, (lackey handlock)
She won't last long at this rate (low health and she dies very quickly)

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Not that one either. The fiends are 1/1, I'll give you that.

  • Imp Master? Though I have no idea why they are great

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Yeah, it's Imp Master. The imps are "great" because of the warlock Galakrond, also the canon one from the adventure. As for gameplay, Galakrond Zoolock and Galakrond Control Warlock got the class out of the Doom in the Tomb dumpster.

  • Alright, double riddle! The answer includes two cards!

    Twins by type,

    twins by sound,

    strangers by stats,

    half-brothers by name

  • Blood Warriors ?

it probably aint it if not then

    Conjurer's Calling

  • @MurlocAggroB wow, that fits exactly as I thought it would fit, but for 2 different cards. A hint: both are classic cards

  • Bloodsail Corsair & Bloodsail Raider?

Same type (Pirates & Neutral Minions)

Both have Battlecries (guessing that's what you mean by "same sound") that target Weapons

    Different Stats

Both have "Bloodsail" in their names

  • Nope. Again, @MurlocAggroB got the hints right in every aspect

  • Captain Greenskin and Southsea Captain? Pirates with battlecries and both are captains.

  • No. AGAIN, MurlocAggroB got everything right, meaning the first line is about minion type, the second is entrance sound, the third is stats and the fourth is similar name. I also said they are both classic. I’ll give another hint: one of them isn’t collectible

  • * Insert Valera concede emote here*

  • I was thinking Murloc Tidehunter and Murloc Tidecaller, but one isn't collectible? I'm stumped.

EDIT: Panther and Jungle Panther? Do those even share a sound?

EDIT 2: THE RECKONING: Emerald Drake and Twilight Drake. I just want to assert my dominance over this round and do the next riddle.

  • Maybe this was way too obscure. I’ll give it a day or two, and then MurlocAggroB will be declared winner by proximity

  • New to the game here, been stalking for a while.

    Coldlight Seer and Coldlight Oracle

  • Hmmm. Maybe MurlocAggroB was even closer than we thought and the first card is from the classic set and the second from Battlegrounds. If that's the case, I'm out since I don't play BG. All I know is that the classic dragons recently became BG heros, but I don't remember those having stats.

Also please don't edit answers into posts when there's a lot of traffic on the thread, how are we to find out who was quicker?

  • I added those edits before anyone else replied. Sorry, I won't do it anymore.

    • Welcome!

    • Quote From MurlocAggroB

I added those edits before anyone else replied. Sorry, I won't do it anymore.

I didn't notice if they were there when I replied or not, but I'll take you at your word so if it is the Drakes then it'll be your go.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

I'd say either Harvest Golem - Damaged Golem or Scavenging Hyena - Hyena.
Leaning more towards the golems, but the Hyena literally has a Classic emblem, so there's that.

EDIT: Actually I realized that hyenas have the same stats so they can't be the answer. Golems are my guess then.

  • ArngrimUndying is even closer, Emerald Drake is right! If no one guesses it for a while he’ll get the win

  • If Emerald is right, then it has to be either Twilight Drake, or... Azure Drake? I mean... It was classic, now it HoF, but it WAS a classic card.

If not, I'm really lost, since they are the only Drakes and Emerald its the only... Emerald lol

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Maybe it's Faerie Dragon? Dragon is not exactly the same as drake, but it's very close which could explain why they're half-brothers.

    • Quote From JFK

Maybe it's Faerie Dragon? Dragon is not exactly the same as drake, but it's very close which could explain why they're half-brothers.

Well, in lore Faerie/Fey Dragons live in the Emerald Dream... Didn't thought about it, that may very well be the answer.

  • @Fedrion is correct, it was Azure Drake! Fun fact: I didn’t even realize it was HoF lol
