[Game] Card Treasure Hunt (The Resurrection Attempt)

I found the original one pretty neat, let’s see how this goes...

To quote the legendary Riosix:

It's a treasure hunt using your Hearthstone card collection. I'll start it off with a riddle, and you try to figure out what card I'm talking about. First one to answer correctly picks a new card and makes the next riddle. Make it as difficult as you want, just not impossible :)

I’ll start with:

Alone I’m quite fearsome,

you better watch out,

but doubled I’m more than tripled,

and my gurgle - a mighty shout.

EDIT: Added leaderboard:

  • So... an urban Jaffa might be a mayor? That would be Mayor Noggenfogger, but Dermostatic said those two refer to the second word in the card's name. I think we need another hint.

  • Sorry I've been quiet, uni's restarted again to keep me busy.

Loving the teamwork here :) anchorm4n's on the ball with Jaffa the city. Another hint: Both letter and fever can be paired with a certain colour.

  • A color that fits fever and letter is scarlet (scarlet fever is a sickness and The Scarlet Letter is a famous book). Sounds fitting since there's the Scarlet Crusade in WoW.

Now I'm almost completely ignorant of WoW lore but Google also told me that there's a Scarlet Monastery. One of its former leaders was High Inquisitor Whitemane. I know that's a bit far fetched but I don't know what a "scarlet mayor" could be otherwise. Any WoW experts around?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Jaffa is one of the ancient port cities in Israel.

So this is a Scarlet Crusader?

    • Quote From R

Jaffa is one of the ancient port cities in Israel.

So this is a Scarlet Crusader?

Ey, nice on R! Over to you :)

  • Man, I actually checked all the "scarlet" cards but dismissed them because I misunderstood Dermostatic's last message. So I did mention Jaffa the city and the hint at scarlet first but failed to make the connection. Yeah, teamwork!

  • Way to make the dream work, team

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Thanks to the anchorm4n. Without his "scarlet" hint, I would not find the answer. I think that this answer does not deserve a score.

I'm made of iron and also I'm hide.
I'll protect you from the next fight.
Just use me and do something else.
Or do you prefer to do it yourself?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Nope

  • Is it... Ironhide Direhorn?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Nope. He doesn't protect you.

    But you kinda close.

  • Is it Ironbark Protector?

Edit: That would be too obvious, my guess is Ironwood Golem.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Nope. Taunt is not a key.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Nope. I repeat again - it is not a taunt.

None of your answers is suitable for the last line. This line is very important.

  • Is it Bite, Claw, or Gnash?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

All these cards are close, but there is not correct answer. Remove +Attack (this riddle is only about protection) and add a couple of words from the riddle (name of a card).

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Hey, what's up? Do you need another hint?

  • [Hearthstone Card (oaken summons) Not Found]?

    Edit: Iron Hide

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Yes, it was Iron Hide.

  • Lol, good one. If only I knew this card existed still....

  • I'm not here to make friends

I'll cause you trouble without ends

    Once my vocal aunty's around

Only transforming will save you, not even Taunt.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • Nope.

  • Is it Leper Gnome? Or something similar like Backstreet Leper or Kobold Sandtrooper?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • None of those. The card does have a Deathrattle, but you should focus on the second line.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • No, but you're headed in the right direction.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • Dreadsteed? Or maybe Rattlegore?

  • None of those, but KANSAS almost had it with Dreadsteed.

Hint: one of the lines refers to the flavor text.

If it's Cruel Dinomancer, then Expired Merchant also need to be mentioned.

  • Yes, KANSAS is right, it is Cruel Dinomancer. Well done, I'm looking forward to your riddle!

I don't think Expired Merchant needed to be mentioned, you got it anyway. The lines were referring to the flavor text, the infinite combo and Spiritsinger Umbra ("aunty").

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Only for those who maybe don't know this combo.

  • A hidden monster, almost never seen

He likes to make small children scream

    Eating people left and right

But although he looks it, he isn't much of a fright

  • Ouch, that was fast. Yes, it's The Boogeymonster.

Does anybody have any tips for writing good riddles? Mine are usually guessed pretty quickly.

  • Since it was my turn before KANSAS, this is an easy one.

    I buff and attac

    I guard and protec

I'm essential for every infernal deck

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • Tips for writing good (imo at least) riddles:

    1. Try to pick a not iconic card (Boogey is the most notoriously bad card in the game).

    2. Reread every line like you were reading it for the first time. Did you give something away?

    3. Employ purposeful mysteries. You can always give away hints later.

    4. Try to straw man people into thinking it’s something else.

    5. Use big words and flowery language. It throws people off.

    29. If no one can guess my current riddle, there might be an extra clue left here. Always recheck yours and others tracks!

    37. An important line of the riddle lends from another person’s riddle.

think that might be all I got, or possibly some more..

    • Quote From anchorm4n

      I buff and attac

      I guard and protec

I'm essential for every infernal deck

Probably Abyssal Summoner? (Abyssals are subspecies to infernals)

  • Okay, wasn't that easy after all. None of the cards you mentioned is correct. First hint: I violated Live4vrRdieTryin's first tip.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • You're on the right track. It's a bit more iconic than that, though.

  • Mal'Ganis it is, back to you KANSAS :D

  • Alright, second chance. Let's hope this is a little trickier than the last one.

What I take I will give, though little it is

I will obey my master's wishes

I was once unique, until others copied me

But now I have ascended to royalty

  • The only character I can think of that "ascended to royalty" is Alexstrasza. Would also fit the rest of the riddle pretty well I think.

  • It's not Alexstrasza.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • Nope. It's not legendary.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Maybe Reincarnate?

  • Also incorrect.

  • Judging by your name, the card can only be Dorothee. Boom. Another win in the hole.

  • Hm. Maybe I got it right but screwed the timeline of the riddle. Dragonqueen Alexstrasza?

    • AnonymousUser's Avatar

As KANSAS already said - card is not legendary.

  • Ah, thanks.

Pretty sure it's Queen of Pain

What I take I will give, though little it is - Lifesteal, but only 1 attack

I will obey my master's wishes - filler line

I was once unique, until others copied me - unique effect until Lifesteal became a keyword

But now I have ascended to royalty - reference to the nerf of the name and the art

Very nice riddle, but the "royalty" part narrowed it down pretty much.

  • Correct! It is Queen of Pain. You're next anchorm4n.

  • Feeling so alive

    Stats are four times five*

    If you care to bother

To play my kin, I'll fetch my brother

    *stats include mana cost

  • Eliminated for trying to rhyme bother and brother. ^ ^.   Cairne Bloodhoof?

  • Nope.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • Animated Avalanche is correct. Live4vrRdieTryin you're next!

  • Green Taker

    Purple Dude,

    Scratch Maker;

    Four Total in Deja Vu.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • This one might get eclectic.... but trust me there’s enough hints there to solve it if you think beyond the box...

  • Not Penny.

I’m actually rly proud of this one XD good balance of “makes sense when you see it” and absolute mystery.

  • Without further hints you’ll want to focus on the last two lines. The first two fit but you won’t get anywhere with em.......... gn!

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Wrathspike Brute?

    Show Spoiler

Is it DH card like that? Priestess of Fury, Imprisoned Antaen, Altruis the Outcast? Or all four if this meaning in the last line.

  • I would assume that the last two lines mean that there are 4 cards of a certain minion type in a "Deja Vu" expansion. "Scratch Maker" hints at Beast or Dragon, but I don't know which expansion is considered a Deja Vu. The only one that looked suspect to me is Galakrond's Awakening, but there are no four cards of a single minion type in that. "Purple dude" might mean it's an epic or a Warlock card.

GvG has 4 Beasts, but non fits the first two lines.

Witchwood has 4 Dragons, no luck with the rest of the riddle again (except maybe thir colors: 3 green, one purple).

For the sake of making a guess I say Nightscale Matriarch, the purple Dragon among 3 other Dragons in Witchwood. Maybe someone else can build upon my reasoning and/or Live4vrRdieTryn can confirm/deny what I got right or wrong.

  • Love your reasoning, anchor but it’s pretty off. One point you did bring up was correct, however. Not Wraithspike but somewhat similar to it

  • Also the 2nd line might be a little too much of a red herring. It refers to another card it has synergy with.

  • The ‘deja vu’ in line 4 alludes to a riddle recently made by someone else.

  • Carnivorous Cube? I am absolutely stumped here. Is it a meme card or a good card in a deck or something?

  • Yeah it was playable in a recent deck that your guess was also in.... or at least a deck of same class, cant quite remember.

  • Is it Kobold Librarian?

Green because it's a common, Taker because of his intro voice line ("Me take book").

Purple Dude because it's a Warlock card,

Scratch Maker because it's a Kobold

Four Total in Deja Vu references to my last riddle: his stats are 1/2/1 which adds up to 4.

  • Damn. Good guess. Lines up as you said, but no it isn’t a Lock minion

also... dont hate me too much but I may have been overating how much it was run, it was experimented with for sure but i might be confusing it with a very similar minion : /

  • The card and the similar minion synergize with a spellstone

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Soulbound Ashtongue?

    1 - "Green" because it's a common card

2 - "Taker" because "takes damage"

    3 - Purple skin

4 - Deal damage to your hero

    Neutral Wrathguard

  • Sorry, no.
Green refers to its name actually
Purple because a card it synergizes with

Scratches cuz, well, thats what it does.

Deja vu because i stole from someone else’s riddle.

cmon guys you got this : D

  • R with the W.

thank god, i fhought this site was going to self destruct if this thread came to a stand still o.0

  • Wow, I have never seen anyone run this card with Spellstone like, ever. The more you know I guess.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
I'll give you a lot of resources.
But this is not for a long time.
    Later they will become curses.
And by parts will take your life.
  • [Hearthstone Card (bloodbloom) Not Found]?

    Edit: Mana Tide Totem.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    No, but it's close

  • Yeah I confused it with Cheaty Anklebiter

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Will post the next riddle tomorrow if that's alright with you guys.

  • Take a shot

    Just fire at will

    If you hit the spot

You can dance with the devil

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • Nope

  • That is super close. The only thing you got wrong is the class.

  • None of those. The last line should help you make the final conclusion.

  • You've all got the right kind of spell, but the wrong class. Mind the last line and you'll get it.

  • OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH

    it's Baited Arrow.

  • Baited Arrow it is :-) up to you, KANSAS!

  • I am boring and bland, not heroic, nor venerable

I couldn't beat an immobilized vegetable,

I'm old and gray, with not much to say

But I'll be readily available until the end of days.

  • No

  • Dorothee.

    hehe. Nat Pagle

  • Is it... Shieldbearer?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • All incorrect.

Here is a hint, the minion has an attack value and it can attack. It just doesn't have a whole lot of stats for it's cost.

  • No, but I think you guys are on the right track.

Think of a card whose only legacy is being really really useless.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • Very close, but not quite.

  • You win! It's Silverback Patriarch.

  • Apologies, but I am really busy with real life things at the moment. I don’t mind passing the riddle to someone if they would like a go

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

I'm a newcomer to the expert set.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Nope

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

it's close. Fit first line, but not the others.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Second line is a key

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Do y'all have no snow on the roofs in winter? What happens when the spring comes?

  • Icicle! Wow, that was almost two years ago already...

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Exactly

  • I once was a beauty but now I'm a beast

On my player's ressources I recklessly feast

To kill me will cost you, my statline is tall

    I'm basically immortal after all

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

There are many options but judging by the second line... Sherazin, Corpse Flower?

  • Anub'arak perhaps?

  • None of those.

  • Felstalker

I once was a beauty but now I'm a beast (Was a succubus, now it's an ugly demon)

On my player's ressources I recklessly feast (Makes you discard a card)

To kill me will cost you, my statline is tall (Has above average stats for it's cost)

I'm basically immortal after all (It's a basic card. So it's immortal in the sense that it will always be in standard)

    • Quote From KANSAS

      100% accurate, well done!

  • I renounce the darkness, you will be cleansed,

You must commit, there will be nothing bland,

"Practice what you preach" is what they say,

But I tend to go the other way

  • Incorrect

  • Wow, how did you guess that Pope?

  • I protect, but I can also attack

I might be the worst bodyguard

because I mostly can’t fight back

Hello, sorry I’m always so late to these. I hope this riddle is not too vague.

    • Quote From Live4vrRdieTryn

Wow, how did you guess that Pope?

The “renounce darkness” effect and the “nothing bland” line made me think of deck transforming effects already, the last line wher it did not follow its own rules (being a neutral card) sealed the deal for my guess.

  • I’m thinking Snapjaw Shellfighter

  • Sorry, that is not the right answer.

  • [Hearthstone Card (

    Bolf Ramshield

    ) Not Found]?

    • Y E S.

  • Haha, I was guessing he was the red herring.

Surf and Turf! Surf and Turf!

    Coming in hot, you think?

Not a lot? It Is still wurf.

    Golden Golden Blink Blink!

  • Blingtron 3000? Also, holy crap you guys made me do a lot of updating to the leaderboard. Also also, WTF ANCHORM4N THE DISRESPECT OF THIS MAN

  • Nope, but it is a neutral.

I would very much like to see this leaderboard : D

  • Zola the Gorgon then? And the  leaderboard is in this thread’s OP

    • Quote From DestroyerR

Blingtron 3000? Also, holy crap you guys made me do a lot of updating to the leaderboard. Also also, WTF ANCHORM4N THE DISRESPECT OF THIS MAN

Whoops. I actually haven't kept count myself. I'll make a screenshot for potential future blackmail and then keep my mouth shut until you've taken the lead again. I really like your bio and wouldn't want to be the reason you've got to change it for.

On a side note: would you please try to fix the leaderboard? The second column has been broken for a while and now the whole thing got messed up after position 7 or so. Maybe one of the mods can help if you face difficulties.

  • Nope, but on the right track that golden has to do with animation. Refer to first line.

    How do I access it?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Leaderboard on the first page of the thread

  • Leaderboard is very confusing. Also my name isnt on it....

  • Umm... [Hearthstone Card (Nat the Darkfisher) Not Found]?

    Surf and turf is obvious

The effect about coming in hot (possibly burning a card due to mill?) and how he is still worth ( a 2 mana 2/4)

The final line for the blinking is related to the Golden Card Art where the eyes on his... tentacles? are blinking... and highlighted in a beautiful golden shimmer effect.

  • Great guess, but a big nope nonetheless. This is kind of an unfair eclectic one bc I happen to own this card in gold and it has a really spectacular animation to a part of it that if you do not own it/ have seen it, you could be left out.

Lets go with this for the hint- this card is fantastic in Arena. ; )

  • As for the question on the animation, yes, a part of this card does blink. It’s adorable, actually. But don’t waste your time scanning every neutral card for it- you wont find it that way!!!!!!

to solve the riddle, absorb what the first line could mean

  • Surf.... and..... Turf.... ....?

Bonus tip: in case some of you are not my culture, S&T is a meal of seafood and land animals

  • Going to keep the ball rolling I guess!

My second guess would be Marsh Hydra. Its a great card in Arena and also related to surf and turf. Not only that, but it has beautiful blinking golden eyes.

  • Mmmmm no. Let’s say I wanted to eat a nice fishy and juicy meaty meal.... what card might satisfy that dish?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • Crab satisfies half my hunger, but not the other half.....

I like two meals in one package.

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar
  • Boom. Take it away, R.

    hehe... we’re on page 69

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Just look at this card. This card is amazing.
Why no one playing it? She is mesmerizing.
She is can't be easely removed from fights.
Also she is infinitily related to "out of cards".

  • @anchorm4n don’t actually stop lol, I want to earn my way back rightfully (also, someone actually read my bio FeelsGoodMan)

about the leaderboard, it looks fine on my end, but I’m on mobile so it might be different. Can you guys tell the mods what’s actually wrong so they can fix it? Thanks

@Live4vrRdieTryin you are in the leaderboard though. Is this because of the broken thing again?

  • And uhh, [Hearthstone Card (Doctor Morrigan) Not Found]?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Not even close

  • Do the first two lines actually give a hint or are they just filler?

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

    Ok. Hints inside the spoiler.

    Show Spoiler
Sing first two lines. If you know - you know. The third line is about a card itself and this is not main hint. The last line is already a hint.

So 1+2 or 4 line refers to answer.

  • [Hearthstone Card (Shimmering Courser) Not Found]?

    Leaderboard looks great, yay 4!

  • AnonymousUser's Avatar

Yes. A courser is a courser of course, of course, she's more of a unicorn than a horse...

    1. Low stats, but good battlecry

    2. Has Rush

    3. Not really sure, could reference some of the Invokes

    4. Galakrond gets boosted by the battlecries, and all hell breaks loose when played
