Per the devs, if the original is on the board, you’ll steal it. If it’s a sigil/secret/quest, theirs will be destroyed (you can’t steal it since you can’t have two of the same). If it’s a weapon, you play your copy then it’s immediately destroyed and replaced by the original.
But you can’t steal hero cards if they’ve already been played, sorry….
