INTRODUCTION
Welcome! I'm Esparanta, a passionate Wild player who loves to explore the limits of Highlander decks. This time, though, I will do something different: I will share my insights regarding a long-forgotten archetype, which is also my favorite. It is Spell Hunter, which was born with the introduction of ancient weapon in WoW to Hearthstone called Rhok'delar. Originated from Kobolds & Catacombs (K&C) expansion, which was set in December 2017, I am more than happy to revisit it thanks to new cards from Voyage to Sunken City. Let's dive into it, shall we?
GAMEPLAN
For those who played Spell Hunter during its infant times, you had to put cards that consist of anything but minions due to Rhok'delar's condition. However, as time passed by, new cards were added that let you tutor minions as Hunter, activating your weapon's condition with ease...
- Conch's Call can draw Queen Azshara to get new spells via Tidestone of Golganneth or Horn of Ancients to contest the board alongside Raj Naz'jan to burst down your opponent with ease.
- Scavenger's Ingenuity will draw the only beast in your deck Educated Elekk. With him besides Tidestone of Golganneth from our Queen, you can feed the Yogg in troll.
Thus, your plan is simple: Survive until you get 10 mana while playing spells, play Zul'jin and finish your opponent thereafter. You have a lot of ways to generate more spells, which are:
- Shuffled spells from Educated Elekk, be it from your class or your opponent's. You may try your luck again with Revive Pet or Nine Lives.
- Lock and Load>>>Play cheap spells!>>Gather all spells!
- Rhok'delar but only after when you have drawn all minions in your deck.
(All minions drawn, Rhok'delar is ready to go!)
If all else fails, C'Thun will shatter your opponent's mind to pieces...
- When the game begins, C'Thun will break into pieces as four spells so that your Rhok'delar will always be active when you got all minions from your deck.
- If you have played all four pieces, Zul'jin will reform your C'Thun again by replaying those pieces for you.
MULLIGAN and TIPS
- Whether you go first or second, always look for tutor cards, especially Dun Baldar Bunker and Scavenger's Ingenuity. Against non-Aggro decks, you may keep only one Conch's Call.
- Against Aggro decks, keep Quick Shot and/or Shellshot to tone down the threats.
- Try not to play Emergency Maneuvers and/or Pack Tactics when the Queen is on the board but do it otherwise if Raj and/or Educated Elekk is present.
- Lock and Load can generate anything, which includes Hero cards too. Who can say no to another Zul'jin or Beaststalker Tavish?
CARD ALTERNATIVES
Looking for something specific? Whether you don't own cards due to budget or want to beat up other deck types, I got you covered...
- You may remove Nine Lives for, let's say, Explosive Trap to cool down Aggro decks such as Pirate Rogue.
- If you don't own Raj and/or Queen, Ancient Krakenbane and Twinbow Terrorcoil can be utilized.
- If you don't own Deathstalker Rexxar, you can give Beaststalker Tavish a try. I don't own Tavish, so I can't say whether he is better than Rexxar or not but I believe two super Secrets and hitting Huffer every single time is something I wouldn't miss out.
- Although this deck has 6 damage spells (4 from deck and 2 from C'Thun pieces), with RNG on your side, one can complete Hunter Questline without any hassle.
CONCLUSION
That's all for this deck. Let me know if you have any questions and I will be more than happy to answer them. Have fun in Wild format and be safe!
