And here I was, feeling safe that Exodia Mage won't make a return because Mage just lacks the card draw to make it happen...but I guess they have different plans. Combo is back on the menu
I tried having fun once.
It was awful.
Pretty nice card draw, even if you only have spell damage +1. This looks strong, but there is a scarcity of good spell damage minions that says to me that this goes into combo decks only, where two apprentices + Mozaki, Master Duelist help you kill in one turn.
This post is discussing the wild format.
And also tempo mage just got more draw (They already played some spell damage cards before)
Ha! @Xarkkal made this exact card for the D-A-M-A-G-E competition. That must feel good, eh?
Better call Thrall!
It's always weird seeing custom cards being made into real cards, almost surreal even. This card only furthers my fear of Moazki OTk since it can easily resupply your hand for cheap after making her big enough.
I have said it before, but I really want Spell Damage to be a thing, so I support any card that helps that fantasy become real. Drawing cards is an insanely useful thing to do in a game where all you do is play cards. This definitely gives you a lot of motivation to play Spell Damage, and it just in general helps round out any deck you make with a Spell Damage theme.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
Great draw card. This is what exodia mage NEEDED to take off, which means i'm now scared of this card. Mage has a lot of spell-damage synergy this expansion and it looks like a solid archetype.
RNG is only fun as long as there is a 50/50 chance of getting something really good or trash level of bad. If RNG always results in something good, then it's not fun.
I like this, it's like a Battle Rage but the condition of the value you get goes well with the flavor of the class, which in this case is spell power for mage.
Oh cool, Myra's Unstable Element for Mages.

Ever since Unexpected Results came out in The Boomsday Project, I've seen people make this card way more times than I can count. Now it's finally in the game.
In SD Mage, I imagine this'll be good since it can draw several cards for so little mana.
it draws cards, and that alone is good enough to merit inclusion. That it draws cards, and can draw you more than 2, along with spells like Primordial Studies, and Lab Partner there's little reason to believe this cant draw you more than 2 cards for 2 most of the time, which is insane.
Aside from the obvious tempo mage, there's also cyclone mage that will love this card. Even combo mage can use something like this. Even spell mage can use something like this because of the aforementioned primordial studies. Just a strong card that does what its supposed to do and better.
Okay we know draw is powerful, and it is tied to spell damage so we have to build around it, i like it. Or maybe there will be a spell damage package that can fit into many mage deck, nah i think that will not be the case.
Decent Draw even if it only would draw you 2. This will see play in every Spell Damage or at least in every Fast Paced Mage Deck. Also could see this beeing played in a more conrol-oriented list.
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
Another spelldmg support card. We will definitely see some iterations of decks that utilize the +spell dmg. I like this.
“If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.” ― George Bernard Shaw
EU Legend: S52 (ZooHeal Lock); S76 (Highlander Hunter);
Honestly, I think „2 Mana draw 1 Card" alone might be good enough on it's own.
And with the Spell Damage Support Mage got, it's also very easy to take Advantage of the Upside. T1 Lab Partner into T2 Cram Session.

Mozaki OTK suddenly looks a lot more viable. Who needs spell generation when you can just draw the rest of your deck?
To be a good spell we must play it with +2 spell power. If we spen 2 mana to draw 1 or 2 mana I think it's not worty...but it isn't super easy to have at least +2 spelldamage. So...need a lot of deckbuilding to work
Could be good... IDK
Great adittion for a spell damage deck
Lemushki - The one and only since the 2006 rebranding.
Good with Lab Partner, but other than that its ok.
With one spell damage minion on the board, it is a cheaper Arcane Intellect. That can't be bad.
Arcane intellect 2 sometimes draw more cards boogaloo? Regardless solid card for mage
Self proclaimed good at battlegrounds
Freeze Mage is back boys!
With enough spell dmg you got a nice 2 mana draw card
All hail the banshee queen.
Great in combo decks and spell damage tempo decks, will definitely see play.
This card is going to probably be absurd, especially since Mage got a handful of spell damage support this expansion.
Unless this gets nerfed, I expect this to be Mage's staple card draw in standard and wild until something better comes around.
The student life flavor across the set really makes me chuckle :
" The font of the arcane gives nearly limitless access to power and energy! But it can't keep you awake, for that we still use coffee."
Struggle with Heroic Galakrond's Awakening? I got your back :
Even with only one spell damage, it’s a better arcane intellect.
Lab Partners all around.
The way Spell Damage minions are been pushed, this can draw at least 2 for (1), wich is fine. If Blizz keep supporting the theme, we may see it drawing 4+ by the end of the rotation.
With +1 spell damage you have a cheaper Arcane Intellect.
If spell damage decks are played, they will use that card.
By The Holy Light!
So in The Boomsday Project Mage received the Research Project, a 2 mana spell that drew you and your opponent 2 cards.
For aggro mage this was fine, as they would refill their hand with burn to push lethal on their opponents.
In theory this spell can become BETTER than Research Project, as there's no upper limit to spell damage you can have, but reaching that spell damage can be tricky.
Namely, any minion that has spell damage has a soft taunt - your opponent will focus on that minion once it's on the board , with either their own minions or single target removal. Fortunately Mage does have 2 good spell damage minions that were introduced in this set - Lab Assistant and Mozaki, The Master Duelist. Lab Assistant is a cheap, flexible minion that grants spell damage +1, and Mozaki gains additional spell damage per spell played - Mozaki with this spell will always draw AT LEAST 2 cards, which is good.
Mage has ways to discount this spell as well, if aggro mage comes back the Sorcerer's Apprentices can discount this spell by (1) per apprentice and Incanter's Flow will reduce all spells in your deck by (1).
It's a good draw spell but this spell will require some work to make it GREAT, which may stop if from seeing play on the ladder
I think this card requires too much setup for the price of running it. Sure, with 1 spell damage Cram Session is a 1 mana cheaper Arcane Intellect, but when you combine the cost of Cram Session with the spell damage minion you play, is it actually cheaper? I would rather run AI for the consistent draw in a self-contained card.
For glory, honor, and gold!
I’m fully expecting Azure Explorer to make this good, beyond that, the 1 drop helps nicely, not sure if the other cards will be worth it though
Who needs consistency when you could have fun?
In specialized deck can be very good
-=alfi=-
This will be a vital piece to Spell Damage Mage. D:
Thanks to denial, I'm immortal.
It's very strong for a spell power deck, and have a potential otk drawing engine
So this card solely depends if you can keep spell damage minions on the board, and depends if the spell damage deck is viable to begin with
TREMBLE before.... the most legendary dragon that ever existed!
Card draw is never a bad thing, people will play this.
I had a custom card with a similar effect. But mine was on a minion and capped at 3 draws. Needless to say, I like this design.
Quick! Someone give me something clever to write here.
Spellbook Binder, are you paying attention? This is how Spell Damage card draw should look. Cheaper Arcane Intellect with +1, and it only gets better from there. Azure Explorer, Celestial Emissary, and Cosmic Anomaly can all make this card a decent enough play. The only draw back is it's only ever going to be as good as the deck.
Now this is a card who's flavor I can really relate to. I'm thinking it will be best played when there's a minion or two with at least +2 spell damage, rather than trying to get a bunch of smaller +1 spell damage on the board.
Official Lorekeeper and Spinner of Tavern Tales
If Spell Damage becomes a thing, it may see play and actually be very strong. Otherwise, 2 mana for 1 card is just not good enough.
Seems real good so long as you're running at least a few Spell Damage minions. Since Lab Partner is so good, I expect this will see play.
