A new patch hit Hearthstone today and with it came some very interesting client data! We've got details to share for an upcoming Hearthstone brawl called Blackrock Crash!
Internally the brawl is referred to as EVIL Blackrock Mountain. Awesome.
What is Blackrock Crash?
You brought the city of Dalaran to ME? laughs in Nefarian
We only have a small glimpse into it so we're not 100% certain on everything here so keep that in mind. Yep, that's a datamined content warning.
With that out of the way, Blackrock Crash is a very interesting piece of content. It appears to be a Solo PvE Tavern Brawl that actually takes form as a Dungeon Run and will be available during this year's Fire Festival. From it, an old card back is returning, the Ragnaros card back, which is earned when you complete a run.
There's also a second component, or at least that's what it appears to be, where the brawl takes form as a mega raid boss for Fireside Brawls. Much like when The Lich King was raided years ago with a combined health pool, the same seems to be the case for Ragnaros. Oh yeah, that Ragnaros has 15000 health.

Comments
I've edit that comment one minute after I wrote it. I mean, before noone can ever read it.
I'm not saying that I am not selfish. Yeah, I am selfish like any other human in the world. It is not my problem who started this game after 15 seasons and missed all of the older cardbacks, so of course I will be a complainer about this situation.
So Blizzard should give me Blizzcon cardbacks too, since I can't go Blizzcon because I am living in a different country ? Yeah but I am not asking that and new players asking for older cardbacks.
There should must be justice, not equality. If I have spend more time than some newcomer and II had some limited-time items in this game, They should be respectful to that and should not beg for getting them like how I am not asking for some other exclusive items in the game.
So, Like how I agree my selfishness, They should be aware of their own selfishness too.
And yeah, Let's give everyone Lunara and [Hearthstone Card (Maiev) Not Found]. Also let's give them all of the legendary quests which they need to be online at the expansions' first weeks. Let's give every paid member golden Gelbin Mekkatorque, let's give all of the newcomers golden SN1P-SN4P. Want some more ?
Where is the sincerity in this? How can I be sure Blizzard won't give those also to the newcomers. So they simply tricked me to play that week/month/year their game and they are giving them again to trick others.
There is no sincerity here. It is rude.
How is that rude? Blizzard don't owe us anything. Also, that cardback is a few years old. What's wrong with current players getting it?
Its like saying God of War 3 was released on the PS3 back then. Hence, players should not buy the GOW3 Remastered on the PS4. This is what you sound like:
"Its rude on Sony side for doing so! It was a PS3 exculsive! If they want to play it, they should have gotten it back in the days! Oh, you missed it? Then, too bad! It's mine and exclusively mine cos I PLAYED IT BACK THEN AND OWN A PS3! I feel SPECIAL! F**k new players who wants to experience it!!"
Furthermore, by your definition of exclusivity, there shouldn't even have Wild in the first place and sell Wild packs on the Blizzard store. This means, let's take Year of the Mammoth sets for example, these sets should just be gone permanently and not even allowed to be crafted. Unless you started playing the game at 2017, you will never be ever be able to obtain Un'Goro, KOFT or KAC cards ever again.
You wanna play Wild? Too bad! You can't! Cos those old cards from the previous years? C'thun, Tri-Class cards, Quests, Death Knights, Legendary Weapons and other cool stuff, you wanna play them? Then, you should have started earlier and it's your fault for not doing so. They are gone forever.
You see how stupid that sounds? Your reasoning irks and disgust me. Regardless, you will ignore logic and be a stubborn prick. Typing away to "counter" my points. Well, have a good day, sir.
your examples are not related with this situation. All of your examples effects the gameplay and GoW3 example is game itself.
It is a paid product without a time restriction. They didn't say they were exclusive products in release.
If you click for example [Hearthstone Card (Power Core) Not Found] cardback, you can see a sentence like "acquired from attending approved eSports event" or [Hearthstone Card (Frost Knight) Not Found] cardback iy is "Acquired from achieving Rank 20 in Ranked Play, September 2017" which are mean "You can't acquire Power Core unless you are being attended approved eSports event" or "You can't obtain Frost Knight unless you achieved Rank 20 in Ranked Play, September 2017"
So it is a time restriction, Those sentences are setting an exclusivity. They didn't set an exclusivity to wild cards before or GoW3 game before.
So, I would like to craft golden Elite Tauren Chieftain now but i can't. Guess why? There is a restriction, they gave it at Blizzcon 2013. I couldn't go Blizzcon 2013 because I am living in a different country. But I'm not begging them to activate it again. I know how it feels to have an exclusive item and i know it will be injustice to players who gets it in Blizzcon 2013.
They should have created a different version of the Ragnaros cardback for my feels. It is about what I feel, It isn't about the cardback itself, that cardback isn't even visually good. I don't care which cardback it is, I care about its exclusivity and how they tricked me by saying it is only acquireable by playing ranked in march 2015. maybe I could have played something else in that month, or I could have spent my time something else, Maybe I liked that card back so much and I renounced something else to be able to get that card back. They never know, You never know.
What I call injustice and rude is this. They stole my time.
Ah and try it in real life. Go buy a necklace for your girlfriend, and say that only she deserves that necklace, And buy 1 more and give it someone else as a gift. Make your girlfriend see that and experience what she feels.
I get what you say and agree, it's like people from new Olympic games getting the same medal someone won on another Olympic. This things are meant unique for a special reason, and thats simply showing off something you have an no other do.
I'm proud of having the very first cardback and like to play against other people that also have it. It's a way of connecting to another old-time player...
This kind of comment is pretty sad in my eyes.
These "exclusive" card backs weren't something that you had to pay for and they're not collectables that gain value due to their rarity. They're pretty 1's and 0's that you have because you just happened to be at the right place at the right time.
I don't see why we should exclude new fans from enjoying these card backs as well. This kind of attitude is needlessly petty and selfish, especially considered these card backs have no real value attached to them.
Bear in mind, this is coming from someone who won't benefit from getting the old card back.
I hope Blizzard does more of this kind of thing in future.
How about the paid card backs from promotions ? Good or bad to bring them back, people paid
Easy. Let people pay for them again. If they really want them, it's money in the bank for Blizzard. I wouldn't buy them, but I'm sure others who are interested would, and I wouldn't begrudge anyone for that.
I agree with you. I believe that time-limited exclusivity should be kept and not re-offered. I only started in 2017 but I do not whine about not getting the older card backs. It's not Blizzard's fault that I missed the earlier ones.
I like the idea that old card backs are going to come back so people can jazz up their collection / decks with more flavors of Hearthstone. The game has been out for a long time and it has gained so many new fans since the early couple of years so letting them fill up their collection is really cool, even if its years later. I'm not a fan with how they are handling this specific case though.
I do think it is important to differentiate how someone earned a card back. I've had this stance since Ben Brode originally stated they wanted to find a way to bring back older card backs so I apologize for sounding like a broken record to those who have seen me drone on about it.
Some sort of small visual clue could easily differentiate if you had a "first edition" version of a card back. One suggestion I have is to make a "simple" change to the ring around your deck on the board to be golden instead of grey. I realize the majority of card backs out there are likely to be golden, so having a large element around the deck may not work too well. You could instead go for a more subtle approach of adorning the slot with a gem of sorts.
If you do that for a "first edition" card back, those who were around the first time will feel good about being so but it gives them room to allow the card back to be given out again.
A lot of players asked Blizzard about getting old cardbacks. It's only a cardback that's coming back in an event. C'mon.
It is about the respect which a company should show to loyal users. Which blizzard always forgets.
Yes, it is just a card back. It is unimportant, I agree but you can't say that it is not a discourtesy.
It's a random season 13. There's nothing exclusive in that.
If one wants to show exclusiveness, it's either season 1, or nobody cares.
Actually, nobody cares of anything about vanity items from their opponent.
It's just narcissism.
it isn't narcissism. It is about loyalty.
maybe one ridiculous ugly cardback isn't important for most, but what it feels is important here. like Angryshuckie said, long-time players are forgetten. I'm not the only one who says this and this is about it. Not just one stupid cardback.
It's a matter of self-perception about a vanity item. That's exactly what narcissism is.
I could maybe understand if it was season 1. It's the beginning, so it is objectively special (even tho i bet very few know which one is s1 cardback).
But this is just season 12. One year later. There's nothing special about it, you're not so much of a veteran for owning it, and nobody cares if you decide to display it, because nobody knows what season it represents.
The average player will just think it's exotic and that's it. Because the very notion of "old" grows relative the more we go on with the game, and at a point s12 will be perceived just as old as s42, even if it isn't.
Its a pretty damn minor discourtesy. If I see the pandaria card back I think: cool, this guy's been here from the start like me. Nothing more, and that's as prestigious as monthly card backs get. Seeing a few more Rag card backs won't make be feel spited for having actually been around in season 12.
The key point here is that we didn't do anything significant to earn these card backs; they were just time-gated. And given we went to so little effort to get them, I see no reason to be snobbish about who has them.
It isn't exactly pretty minor.
Pretty minor is when you acknowledge it and do something about.
Act like it is no problem to older players not get the event main reward is when it reaches me.
It would obviously return someday but if they really wanna go with this just go at every account with it and give said people a pack or something like that.
Just to say....
Thank you for support us all those years.
It isn't about the cardback for me. It is about the total lack of consideration about those who already have the cardback.
Keep in mind both a) this is just datamined information and hence prone to being incomplete, and b) they have previously given a classic pack to those already in possession of the Christmas card back when that reward returned. So the safe bet is on a classic pack reward if you already have the Rag back.
That being said, in the unlikely case where we long-time players are forgotten about, you are correct to complain. We just cannot assume that yet.
I was playing from beta too, but I´m missing first 5 cardbacks just because I didn´t quite play at all ranked. I would be happy to catch some of them.
