Overpriced card synergy...one day.
for anyone wondering what this is for, it's for random mechanics that involve some kind of evolution effects or random summoning minions to have a chance of screwing the person casting the spell
at least that's my theory on why do they actually print these cards that everybody knows from the start won't see any play otherwise
Nerf to Serpentshrine Portal
pack filler, ain't no way this is seeing play. Even with the chance of discounting the off chance of increasing a cost is too high.
plus the stats are just sub par for a 3 drop. The outpost with the same stats at least gives you a 2/2 if your opponent plays a minion...
At first In interpreted it as 50% to increase the discount and thought "well it's bad, but it at least it's sort of an interesting mechanic."
Then I found out that it's 50% to increase the Cost by 1 and I was like "what the fuck is this shit?"
Exactly the same. I thought there was a 50% chance to reduce the cost of a card by 2. As is, completely unplayable.
I have no idea why anyone would play this.
What am I missing?
You aren't missing anything, it is indeed understated trash. Effect cannot even be said to be an upside...
I suppose at some point in will feature in a Trolden video that enables/prevents next turn lethal out of nowhere :)
Well, this is very very bad. Like, come on, why is it understatted??
the only deck I could see it being played (and that is very, very doubtful, but hey, I am trying to be positive) is new quest priest, as it may help you to actually fill that curve that you need for quest completion - you miss a 4 drop and have bunch of 3 cost card in hand? boom - you either get a 4 cost card for next turn or cost reduction, so win-win for you.
I think it's more likely going to hinder than help you as a Quest Priest, since this undoes the curve planning you did in the mulligan and using discover effects. Maybe you could argue that you just don't play it if your hand already curves well, but then you need another 3-drop to play on turn 3.
And even if the effect would be a small net-positive, there is still the question of whether it's enough to compensate for the poor stats. For example Venomous Scorpid is more reliable in fixing your hand and provides a better minion on board.
Hi Zelgadis,
Sure, I agree with everything you said :) As I mentioned, I am aware it very doubtful that the card makes an inclusion, I was just playing devil's advocate there and try to think of any usage it may have in any deck, and quest priest seems like the only one for one, as it may actually benefit from the downside of the card.
Cheers!
A little bit interested about how this will work with Drakkari Enchanter
You got the same random effect twice or their are resolved first one and then repeat randomly again?
Resolved separately
Amazingly bad/confusing wording by Blizzard once again.
Nobody ever asked for any of these ogre cards so I don't know why blizz thinks we enjoy them. Props on the flavor, but at this point these coin flip cards that aren't meant to be played competitively feel insulting. I guess random minion generation and evolve effects are a thing so this adds an additional layer of variance to those already random games. Hearthstone will be hearthstone I guess.
The biggest meme
Compare this to pre-nerf Far Watch Post, which guaranteed the mana change, and was a 2-cost card on top of that. It's definitely pack filler, but at least it has the ogre flavor.
What does this have to do with the Watch Post? That's disruption, this is mana cheat.
