In today's Hearthstone patch, we've found an interesting reference to a new kind of card pack. As you may know, Blizzard has been experimenting with adding new types of non-expansion packs to the game recently with the addition of the Wild Pack and Standard Packs. The update today added a new type of pack called the "Epic Pack".
Now, we currently don't have an indication that this pack is ever going to go live, there certainly isn't any art for it in the client yet, but the addition of this kind of pack does make sense. Let's make the assumption that an Epic Pack is a pack which only contains Epic cards, and not something else like a pack that contains 10 cards... though wouldn't that be neat!
I sure wish I owned two copies of all these cards!
Epic cards are some of the harder cards to obtain in the game with requiring two copies of each card and there never being a concrete way of getting them outside of card packs or crafting, unlike their Legendary friends. Legendary cards on the other hand are handed out seemingly like candy with a new expansion bringing us a couple of freebies, multiple random legendaries through pre-order bonuses, and that sweet guaranteed drop out of your first 10 packs of a set. That doesn't include the great bundles we usually see that also boost us with Legendaries; All this makes Legendary cards feel like a joke to obtain compared to a full set of Epic cards.
It will definitely look like this. Trust us.
With the potential addition of an Epic pack, we are almost certainly going to see a bundle or two of them appear in the shop, though its possible we may even see them as a drop for watching Hearthstone on YouTube, or as an include to future pre-order purchases. Nothing currently indicates the true plans for these packs, maybe they won't even contain the obvious Epic-only cards, but we would be very surprised if they don't end up being used in some capacity in the game.
What would you like to see out of Epic packs? Aside from the obvious Epic cards...
Comments
Epics represent 64% of the cards that I'm missing to complete the collection, so I'd be glad if it would be a 5-epics-pack and the price would be fair. One epic guaranteed instead of the rare card does not appeal to me as much, although - once again - that would depend on the price. Speculating is fun but rather pointless, so let's wait for the thing to show up.
Hs has become a gacha game at this point.
"Has become"? LOL, as if it happened just recently.
Card games are the original gacha games. Look at yugioh tins, and gold series packs, special edition bundles, etc. MTG has had similar packs in the past.
I'd drop a few bucks down on a pile of those purple packs.
My guess is that an Epic pack will be like a normal pack but guarantee at least one card being an Epic rarity.
That's incredibly dumb and sadly the most likely option.
I mean, it's the best way to offer them without making them cost more $ or gold. And historically, getting the epics you wanted was sometimes harder than getting legendaries. Probably not the case anymore though with the duplicate protection rules on all rarities. But still... If that is all they are and they cost the same, an Epic pack is a better value than a normal pack. Wouldn't be surprised if these were only available in the occasional special bundle.
If its going to offer up epic cards for all five cards per pack, I'd expect it to be quite expensive or very limited in offering. With the guaranteed in rares and commons, its usually only the epic cards that most people will even care to buy a pack for because unlike legendaries they are substantially easier to get per pack. There's also the fact that most decks can't function well without its epic cards but legendaries are more easily substituted (most times anyway).
If I were to guess, its going to be the same price as a golden pack. And probably still too expensive for all but whales and the occasional porpoise.
If they are going to sell these I'm guessing they will contain one guaranteed Epic card, in place of the regular Rare one.
That would be a very interesting way of doing it.
Okay, this is Epic
-Ben probably
oh gosh no more bundles, is all i ask
Why that? Having the option to buy a bundle is always better than not having the option, or am I missing something?
You mean more mercenaries preorder bundles? Roger that!
I personally won't buy a Mercenaries bundle unless they have four or more options. And when they do, I'll buy them all
