Fairytale Brawl
Directeth thine actors, forsooth! Two Players!!
How it Works
- Pick a hero to "play" during the brawl. They are a familiar hero dressed to impress in a Fairytale.
- You don't control the player (AI) in this brawl but rather, you direct them.
- Yes, this feels very weird at first!
- You still get to control the Mulligan phase, so choose wisely!
- The AI makes hilarious bad decisions at times, like attacking your own minions with spells when there is zero positive outcome. These actors really are something.
- At the start of "your" turn, you will get to choose a director action.
- This action is a 0 cost card that is immediately played.
- To see the different actions, see "Director Action Cards" below.
- After you make your action choice, the AI playing for you will play cards it desires.
- May the best director win!

Fairytale Hero Choices
Here are your hero choices. Each hero has a different deck.
Robin Hood Rexxar
Beasts! Moonfang makes a legendary appearance in the brawl alongside Mankrik who is still looking for his wife. Cost reduction through Stage Right feels like a strong play, allowing your AI to hopefully spam out some of your beefier minions all in one go. A real dream would be to see a With Intensity dropped onto Moonfang though, the staying power would surely push games in your favor.
Red Riding Hood Jaina
Jaina's deck is Spell Mage! You'll start off with the Stormwind questline, Sorcerer's Gambit.
Stage Right can be an effective card to let your AI play more spells quickly, and both Plot: Evil Twins and Plot: Pirates!!! can help establish board presence which is lacking in a spell mage deck.
The biggest downside for directing your AI is that if you end up with Stage Left and With Intensity in your choices for the turn, they are both useless. Similarly, Action! feels like a card that doesn't get much use after the first couple of turns since you're likely to have a ton of cards in your hand after that point. This brawl is certainly one fun way to experiencing the archetype though!
Prince Charming Anduin
Anduin is rocking out with some great Control Priest.
Xyrella joins the fun alongside Condemn (Rank 1), and Hysteria. Discover also makes a core appearance with Palm Reading and Draconic Studies providing useful ways to to earn some solid cards and cost reductions for your deck that is heavy on spells or that fresh Dragon you just Discovered.
Frog Prince Thrall
Thrall's deck has Evolve, Battlecry, and Corrupt effects. Here are some cards you'll find:
Ultimately, we're hoping for a bit of luck here because Evolve mechanics can be crazy good but you've also got the chance for them to go horribly wrong. I've had more success so far with trying to bait out the Corrupt cards from the deck and relying on an early Action! to get some much-needed cards in hand. Stage Right is absolutely required for wins though against some of the other heroes who are just pumping out aggression.
Pirate King Garrosh
If you guess that the PIRATE KING, Garrosh, would be playing with Pirates, you'd be correct.
The Pirate synergy makes it quite obvious that Plot: Pirates!!! is an essential play when available and the board space is there. Starting off with Raid the Docks, which unfortunately is not completed automatically if you can play the aforementioned "Plot: Pirates!!!" card, is quite important to keep in your opening hand to increase the chance your AI will play it on the first turn - you'd be surprised.
Getting the weapon from your first quest early can be quite important because being a deck with Pirates, you've also got weapon synergies. Defias Cannoneer, a new card in the Deadmines mini-set, stands to help clear out boards efficiently, paving way for face action should your AI choose it. Fogsail Freebooter can also be a source of control early on, though the AI might just hit you in the face with it anyway so who knows?
The brawl can be quite a bit of fun even if the AI doesn't make the best plays. It's like all the Esports events where you get an opportunity to scream "BUT YOU HAVE LETHAL" at your monitor as you become quickly disappointed when they hit themselves in the face instead. Very neat change in pace for a Tavern Brawl from Blizzard.

Wow ... I thought I was a bad player, but I'm actually great compare to this AI ..!
As someone who plays the dungeon runs a LOT, I have noticed some oddities:
>The AI for this brawl has been actively dumbed down. The AI makes mistakes frequently but not to the extend you see on display on this brawl. The AI in the other modes has also grown more aggressive, prioritizing pushing for/setting up lethal when it can - things it does not do in this brawl.
>It will actively waste moves and cards, even help the opponent - toss a coin to use shiver on their own minions, or heal the opponent, things it does not do in other modes unless it gets confused by "cannot be targeted" effects.
>Skipping turns: This is something that happens rarely in dungeon runs when the AI feels like it is dead in every foreseeable situation, it just stops playing cards and ends every turn immediately. Seems to happen to a lot of people in this brawl.
terrible
this is the worst brawl ever... the IA is plain dumb, not even a child would play this bad
Definitely the most frustrating brawl I've ever had the displeasure to play... fun things that happened in the hour it took to get my first victory included:
Love how AI pings face instead of advancing quest 😅
First played as priest. AI coined hero power turn 1, and healed opponent with hero power any time it could.
So I tried warrior instead. AI didn’t play quest until turn 5, but opponent Warrior played quest turn 1. Perhaps the most frustrating brawl yet.
I don’t know why you all rage like that. I honestly loved it. Hilarious, entertaining, a new mechanic and wrapped into a neat little context. It’s not competitive so I don’t mind having a chuckle seeing the AI Miss obvious lethals ore attack with an evolving weapon before attacking with its minions
And it was fun to try out the Emotes for the fairy tale portraits.
The AI generated more "wow" and "thank you" moments than the average game of ladder!
I think its purposefully designed by the devs like this for a laugh.
But ultimately people just want their packs. Which is fair enough, considering that this particular tavern brawl is a near brainless experience. I expect after everyone get their packs, they might look at this as a more casual, lighthearted mode brawl.
That's a good question. I think for me the frustrating part is that it offers you a choice each turn, then proceeds to make unpredictable plays that ignore any opportunities you had in mind with that choice. Maybe it would have been enjoyable if I saw this on a stream, but trying and failing to control the game was not a fun experience for me.
I only play TBs when there are new ones and tbh I was kind of amused. Watching me going from losing to winning because the AI did some stupid shit jus to lose the momentum and gain it back the next turn is wild. Maybe the pack should just be given to those who play a full game instead of winning...
This TB is insufferable.
Dude, the AI is huffing Paint, or Carpet Fresh, or something. Several times, as Mage, I could have pinged a 1 HP minion to take less Damage next turn, so the AI pings the opponent instead. Finished Quest line, so it casts the big spells, instead of Arcanist Dawngrasp, then spells next turn, when it already had Ice block secret out, Over Drawing when it would burn cards... These are just some of the bad mistakes it's made. I'm still just trying to get the 1 win for the pack.
I played as Garrosh and despite AI playing Quest on turn 7 it was fun. Waiting for a brawl where you play "as opponent" (I mean, there's player A as you and B as opponent and player A has to win by playing as player B and vice versa, I guess you know what I mean)
Here's a few things I spotted:
- The AI will prioritize minions unless you clearly have board lethal. For stupid reasons, the AI will not count hero power as part of lethal.
- Always, always just pick pirates with rush. If you copy your opponent's board, they usually dont have rush, so you'll be playing from behind
- Despite what your deck think it is, this is a board battle. Dont mulligan for anything that doesn't curve or build up board.
- Quest mage AI absolutely sucks, because the AI doesn't know completing the quest is a priority. The fking deck has Ice Block for god's sake.
- If you want to lose quickly, just pick priest. AI takes the cake on this one. I dont what happened but clearly when the devs were constructing this they used the AI meant for mage, on priest. Either that, or the AI simply doesn't register Prince Charming as the priest class. Hp the opponent is one thing, casting Elekk Mount on your OPPONENT's minion is quite another.
- AI doesn't quite understand the mechanics in some newer cards. It'll never cast Raise Dead for example, nor will it trade cards even with excess mana. If you're spawning the treasure chest, pray hard you dont get goblet, or the AI will screw you hard depending on what you get.
- By far the easiest way to win is to pick hunter. No prizes for guessing why.
- If you start with coin, try to mull for double 1 drops or a 2 drop or otherwise it'll waste the coin. I played against bots in bronze wild that avoided this mistake.
Its certainly interesting. But honestly, I think this serves to remind us how stupid the AI is in hearthstone. There are times, many times, where I could have just won simply by thinking a mere 1 turn ahead. My bot missing lethal with hp and almost costing me the match was a highlight for sure.
Edit: Added a few more spots
I don’t get this. Hearthstone has an ok AI. Why didn’t they use it here? It seems like the only factor it uses in its decisions is “what card can I play?” This means that they will play the Coin on turn 1 even if they don’t have any playable cards to go with it.
Whoever came up with this shit needs to be kicked so hard in the nuts they fall out of his mouth.
Come on, there is no need for that. I think this was probably the most frustrating brawl I ever played, but in the end it's our own decision to stick with it until you get your pack or just not play it.
Hahaha I'm having a lot of fun watching the AI choose what think is correct. Is like watching a drunk streamer
