Competition Theme: Expensive Tastes
It's time we catered to a more high class clientele - so make sure you're bringing your mana for these cards!
- You must create a minion that costs more than (10)
- While unplayable under normal circumstances, I'm sure you can figure out how to sweeten the deal for them
Neoguli is asking for some more expensive cards this week - and we're not talking about Wallet Warrior!
As always, I can be reached through Discord or here on the site via PM if you have any issues to report.

Welcome to the site!
Thought getting a good card would be difficult until I remembered that I had this thing in my collection!
As an Illidarminator, he's not going to let some Taunt bullshit get in the way. When he sees his target, he's going to attack it whether there's a Taunt minion or not. Nothing can stop him!
The Ancient of Wonders was the Night Elves shop in Warcraft 3, so I think it fits the Tradeable mechanic very well.
Not sure if the cost reduce in the first version is too much. 3 seems too weak, but at 4, I'm afraid about possible snowballs 🤔
EDIT: just saw the broken cost thingy (Hearthcards probably doesn't support 2 digit mana cost with Tradeable). I'll correct it with Photoshop if I decide to ho with it.
I used this on HearthPwn for a similar comp, but I'll post it anyway to see what people think :) I'll work on something else in the meantime. IIRC, I used the same phrasing of Shirvallah, the Tiger.
Edit: Two new cards:
- Elise is fairly traditional, mass-generating cards you Discovered throughout the game.
- Xavius is more radical, being a card you're literally not supposed to play. It's a play on the current Xavius, but for bigger cards. I think the effect needs tweaking, but the idea is there. The flavor is that he summons nightmare-apparitions of the minions played. Probably doesn't justify the weird cost.
Galaxis will always be in your hand to soak up discard effects since he can't really be played and he replaces himself. As compensation, you get a handy-dandy Voidwalker. Alternatively, he can be cheated out with effects like Archwitch Willow or Skull of the Man'ari to get a strong, but not especially strong, Taunt minion.
I like the idea, but honestly, this could be a 10 or 8 mana card and it would function the same way basically, just that ppl would have a choice to play it from hand or not. Feels like it costs 11 just to satisfy the prompt.

The 11-cost is to ensure that targeted discard effects like Nightshade Matron will always hit it and can't screw up your other expensive cards. That said, I hear what you're saying and Matron being (I think) the only card to target highest-cost might not be enough to warrant creation.
As usual... not sure about wording. You need to corrupt another card to reduce the cost of this card. And this card also has corrupt effect too.
My initial two ideas, all revolving around Tradeable. The former is much safer in terms of design, while the latter is riskier, but flashier.
"Truth is in the shadows, waiting to be revealed by the light. But light only disperses the shadow." - Me
"If other people shared traits of those considered naive, the world would've become a better place." - Also me
Neoguli: TraSNform (typo)
-=alfi=-
This is my first idea:
Here is anothe idea:
Kinda like the elemental a little bit more :)
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
Could be insane, could be sh*t.
The stats are based on the 4 basic totems amalgamated.
Papa Nurgle wants to share his gifts.
Oh , never thought that Brogon could come out that early - thats true - i will rework that one even tough i think i will stick with the elemental for the competition!
About the Effect of Graazek - true i will change the damage to all other characters!
Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!
You might want to find a different art - Fireguard Destroyer.

"When I gwow up, I'll be as big as daddy!"
Going a little against what most people will probably make and creating a really simple card. Bit of an odd form of support for Evolve Shaman, allowing you to get an 8/8 on turn 4 (in Wild, or until Old Gods rotate).
Feedback:
Demonxz95: DH can attack quite a lot of times in a game, and even at 7 or 8 mana, this would be good. I'd make it more expensive.
Wailor: 8 mana 7/8 isn't that crazy, and the chances of seeing it again after trading a second time are slim. The second version wouldn't see much play, you don't trade that many cards in a game.
linkblade91: Considering you won with Mecha'Zoth iirc, I obviously don't want you to submit that, lol! The idea is good, same with Elise. I don't like Xavius, he's basically an engine that gives 3/3s for free, but the 7 cost restriction may be enough.
BloodMefist: Interesting idea, but like with Link's Xavius, it's a free engine. It's not as bad, since 1/3s aren't that threatening, but they're more annoying, since they have Taunt.
R: Cool idea, but you can't use the art, since it's already used by a (admittedly, uncollectible), card. You should probably make it a giant, and use the giant wording as well.
Neoguli: Interesting ideas. I think I like the Lurker a tad more.
FieselFitz: Graazek is fine, but you need to change the art, and shouldn't hit itself. Brogon needs to cost at least 30 to be balanced, and even then, it's probably too strong.
Fedrion: I'd limit the Battlecry to basic totems, since you can fairly easily bring this to 0 mana.
In another timeline, she was called Nozari.
Let me know what you think about the cost.
Overall a tough competition. All of my ideas feel like they don't need to start at 11+ Mana to work, or could just have the requirement on their Battlecry instead of on their cost.
I'll boop you
New version of the card, which is more balanced than the first two (I think) and collides less with other cards in this thread. As always, feedback is welcome.
Feedback
In general, I'd like to point out that I'm not a fan of cards that cannot be played normally, since they don't seem very believable. More specific feedback inside the spoiler:
About Xavius, as I said, I'm not a fan of unplayable cards.
Ha ha I am going to lose
Self proclaimed good at battlegrounds
Big feedback time. With the new Guff hero card, you don't even need to wait for these cards to be discounted anymore (though of course it's obviously still ideal).
The (buffed) second version is more than acceptable, but I prefer the first version myself.
Mecha'zoth is a classic, so I would not be opposed to the idea of using that if you want.
Of the other two, I do think Elise would have the better chance of getting a good score over Xavius. While I for one, support the concept of a card that you "can't" play, some people will likely find it a bit too weird (particularly under its current execution) and penalize it somewhat.
Coral Lurker has a really cool ability (although I am worried that it might be slightly too strong). Though I am hoping Tradeable makes appearances elsewhere, its watermark should be either United in Stormwind or The Deadmines for the time being.
I am not a big fan of Miranda Coastmoor. It's not supposed to be that easy to get Treasures. Marin the Fox requires you to play an understatted 8-drop and destroy a minion you give to your opponent, and [Hearthstone Card (Heistbaron Toggwaggle) Not Found] requires you to have Lackeys (and to be playing Rogue). This requires no such condition and is easily repeatable.
As pointed out, Fire Lord Graazek needs an art change since its art is already being used by Fireguard Destroyer. The effect is fine, but I don't think it's intended to hit itself so it should specify "other characters".
Brogon the Trampler is…. an interesting concept but playing it covers two extremes. Either you draw it early and can be play a 10/10 with Rush for very few or potentially even 0 mana, or you draw it late when you've already drawn most of your Beasts and the card is literally unplayable and it wastes a draw. Beyond that, there are syntax errors such as "Beast" not being capitalized and Rush being below the Cost-reduction effect instead of above it.
This is actually one of the oldest fan-made card designs to become a "trope" many many years ago, so it's a cool throwback to those old days to see it come back.
Back then, this effect was theorized to be used as Joust synergy rather than Evolve synergy as the latter had not existed yet by this effect's first iteration. I think this is a cool Shaman design and I do think we will eventually see it in the game some day, not to mention its contrast with other cards in this competition is probably going to give it some appeal in voting. I'm not sure about the specific numbers, but I think the base idea you have is worth using.
It's funny, but I do think the joke is a bit too "on the nose" for me. It'll probably get some points from some people for humor, but it'll likely also cost you some points from others for a very similar reason.
I'd say go for it if you're really confident that more people will love the humor than people that won't. Otherwise, it'll probably be a good idea to have some other card in reserve just in case.
Definitely too weak in my opinion.
As pointed out before in response to Wailor's card, cards that upgrade when Traded only need to be Traded once before they become "good". This one needs to be Traded at least 3 times before it becomes any good and that will take quite a while overall.
Yes, you will.
That is all that I think needs to be said.
Elise is pretty nice. I love to see the potential support for Arcane Mage. Could use some more stats.
Mecha'Zoth is nice, but it's a bit overshadowed by N'Zoth, the Corruptor.
Miranda is odd. Her effect is way too powerful and it doesn't need to be an 11+ card. Also, I'll keep saying it, tradeable cards still need value to play, even if they have a fancy trade effect!
It's currently also pretty weak, because you need to trade it three times for it to be worthwhile, which means you gotta invest first, but likely won't draw it four times. The value difference between each trade might also be too extreme after rebalancing. And extra stats or reduced cost are kind of alternatives, so that just makes it unnecessarily complex.
I'm not entirely happy with this card promoting the 'trade your cards immediately so you might get this value drop early', which kind of ruins the point of the keyword. And getting a cheap Taunt minion in late-game is not nearly as exciting.
*you've cast this game.
I made her a 5/5 to match Elise the Enlightened and Elise the Trailblazer; do you think the connection isn't worth it?
Headed to bed, so I'll provide feedback tomorrow :)
Just can't find a better art for my previous card, so... New plan:
The main issue is that you will only play her in a deck that already has a lot of card generation. You are less desperate for cards and Elise requires quite a bit of setting up. Because of this, I think you're not getting enough value. I do believe the connection is worth it, but the alternative is reducing her cost which would disqualify it for this comp.
You can still submit it the way it is, the card is nice. I just can't imagine people playing it as-is.
I'm gonna go with Elise, Card Collector; the question is: what stats should she have? I'm thinking 7/7 or 8/8.
Which do you prefer? She currently needs 7 Discovers to reach the 5/5/5 stat-line reference of her other cards.
Feedback time:
R - Does a self-pain Warlock need a big Abyssal clearer? I feel like the Warlock has a lot of clears already, and the requirement is very similar to Flesh Giant. I would say there's nothing inherently wrong with the card, though; just seems unnecessary. I think I prefer Obsessed Worgen.
MenacingBagel - Isn't this just a Yogg-Saron, Hope's End with the requirement that someone loses? Not sure how well I feel about that.
Wailor - I like the latest Ancient of Wonders. I don't know if you did this on purpose, but the Ancient of Wonders in Warcraft III is a store for hero items; with that in mind, being related to Tradeable is very on-brand and lore-appropriate. Nice work :)
BasilAnguis - "Trade" should be capitalized and bolded, and "Cost" should be capitalized as well. I have a soft-spot for the Sha, having made an expansion based around them, so I like the usage.
AeroJulwin - That's a silly name :P Personally, I wonder if the cost needs to be higher: it's not hard for a Paladin to cast 6 Holy spells or more in one game, to earn themselves a Reno Jackson. Libram of Wisdom-abuse can easily bring this card further down - I'd love to say "well the Libram will be in Wild by then!", but a lot of people won't see that.
Nirast - That's just goofy lol. Not sure what to say: it exists to be exploited, which will annoy some people. Also, why is it a Kobolds & Catacombs card? It has no connection to the expansion.
Fedrion - "Totem" needs to be capitalized. Combining the main four together is cute, but it's also a pretty crap combination of stats without any Keywords. You would need to save your Totemic Surges for the board fill…but that's in Wild. Without it, I'm concerned there isn't enough good Totems to risk the gamble.
FieselFitz - Change the art of the Fire Lord and make sure it says "all other characters", and I think you're good to go. I would pass on Brogon, even in light of a potential rework.
Neoguli - Coral Lurker could be phrased as "When you Trade this, reduce the Cost of this and the card drawn by (2)." Might look better/neater. I prefer it over Miranda: I think we've seen enough of the Fantastic Treasures for now.
BloodMefist - I like the Void Baron, but as the Discussion thread has indicated, we might be in the minority regarding cards that are not meant to be played.
Demonxz95 - Where have I seen that condition before? *cough* MyCardLastWeek *cough* :P I like it, though. Doesn't need to be 11+ mana, per se, but whatever.
Thanks all for the feedback.
I'm just going to capitalize the missing T's and call it a day.
While everybody thinks about Grand Totem Eys'or and Totem Goliath, I'm more worried about when you get a full board of Mana Tide Totems and burn half your deck in a single turn lol. That's exactly intended so I'm going with that design.
Also, I feel like a lot of people think exclusively with a Standard Mode head, and as a Wild player, this card would see the exact same amount of play that Serpent Ward or Vitality Totem see, which is great, because it's a really powerful meme card that's either a highroll or a lolroll.
Papa Nurgle wants to share his gifts.
Good luck to the finalists :)
Congratulations to Jhamel!
