basically better stealth, worse first available attack. interesting trade-off?
That Murloc art is horrible. Looks like a casual Murloc, not threatening or special considering he's Poisonous.
Slimescale Diver is the better of the three. But that's hardly a surprise. Its a murloc that actually seems like it could survive a trade and will almost always kill its target.
Interestingly I think these dormant minions are better than the 'imprisoned' minions from AoO. Mostly because its less punishing to play off curve, and also because your opponent only has 1 turn to play around it.
Very interesting designs. Essentially you get minions that have above average stats for the cost that basically have stealth for a turn but can't attack face on the next turn making them strong as removal but weak for aggro. The main problem is that they're terrible topdecks and pretty weak off curve, although the poison Murloc just seems good in general.
Best Card Review Ever: "You just play em"
That Murloc is pretty good, forces board based decks not to play any minions turn 3.
Slimescale Diver (and the other two also) will absolutely dominate Arena
Other 2 are also pretty powerful in arena
I thought Dormant was exclusive for Year of Phoenix?
Never was... First dormant was printed in Ungoro...
The Dormant keyword was added in Year of the Phoenix (specifically, for Ashes of Outland), but the mechanic already existed for some earlier cards (like Un'Goro's Sherazin, Corpse Flower and Kobold & Catacombs' The Darkness), so they went back and added the keyword to those cards. (Which they don't usually do -- e.g. they didn't go back and add the recruit keyword to other "summon from deck" cards.)
And since, right from the start, Dormant was in more than one card set, it looks like they've felt free to keep adding it later on.
The first one should be Rager Diver.
$100 that one of Gangplank Diver's voicelines is "Cannonbull!"
His flavor text is "Cownonball!"
Which is 100x worse than Cannonbull
Mr. Smite: "Sweet, a high Attack Pirate I can com...aww."
I mean you play him on 5 then smite on 6 and both go face
True, I thought of that afterward. But that's a turn 5 in a Pirate deck where you're not doing much of anything; hard to justify, in my opinion. Would maybe go in a Menagerie deck if N'Zoth was around...although Mr. Smite has that spot covered, I suppose.
Will be funny for Warriors who're like "all I need is a Pirate from the Juggernaut and I've got lethal...noooo"
So what Blizzard is telling us is that one Legendary is worth 3 Commons :p
Cool cards! The fact that they're only Dormant for 1 turn means you can set up some quick 2-turn combos that require bodies on board. How good that is remains to be seen.
Also, we have a blink and you'll miss it cameo in the video because Sir Finley, Sea Guide got leaked, yay...
