I am guessing the missing warlock legendary, will be about rewarding playing curse cards. It seems to be only available for warlock, could be the case.
A wild guess, but thematically N'zoth fish would be the perfect fit, as corrupting/ cursing all the elves into naga. I think not creating a legendary in this set, as a hint for the old god, would be a big miss.
Fun Fact: You can see revealed cards in English on the official site. This one is called Abyssal Wave, and the generated card is Abyssal Curse.
Abyssal Wave: Deal 4 damage to all minions. Give your opponent an Abyssal Curse.
Abyssal Curse: At the start of your turn, take 0 damage. Each Curse is worse than the last. (2 turns remaining.)
The question is: What is that "2 turns remaining" about?
The devs answered all the questions on Twitter:
The first curse starts at 1 damage (it counts itself and immediately ticks up from 0 to 1). Each curse will disappear on its own after 2 turns, or you can "cast" it for 2 mana to get rid of it early. Every additional curse deals 1 more ongoing damage than the last.
So each curse deals one tick of guaranteed damage, which isn't terrible.
I guess it will work similar to objective spells, not like Curse of Rafaam. And will deal more damage with each turn.
Very slow... But then slows down your opponent when they're trying to regain tempo. Playing this then the 2 mana minion that makes spells cost 1 more would be cute.
Will the Curse of Weakness work? I mean, you can cast it multiple times.
The AoE effect is just slow, very slow. And in fact since Blood Shard Bristleback and Barrens Scavenger is still in standard, I cannot see any warlock running this over Soul Rend, which deals more damage and cost 2 less.
So if you're running this card at all it'll be for the curse. But the curse ticks so slowly its almost negligible as an offensive card, unless you can maintain tempo while doing so, which this card prevents, because you're going to nuke your side too. I would assume that your opponent can remove the curse by spending 2 mana playing it, the same way rafaam's curse works.
Pretty sure we'll be seeing more cards that ticks more fluffly curses, because otherwise this card is just hot garbage.
Except Soul Rend can destroy your gameplan unless theres a specific delete warlock deck in the meta I don't see why people would run the soul rend package.
They're playing it right now in questlock. Bloodshard bristleback and barrens scavenger are powerful enough payoffs that I think its worth considering even after rotation.
Ah yes, questlock, a deck that sees literally no play in Legend because it's so bad right now.
No lock variant is performing better than mediocre right now and the best is handlock in regular legend, Owl lock in top 1k.
Yeah but that only works if Questlock is still a viaable strategy. Soul rend saw no play during Barrens because at that point Warlock decks still had actual win conditions that didn't require you to just get to the bottom of your deck. As long as there are new cards that are a better win condition than just waiting for fatigue then you won't want to burn your own deck just for a 4-mana nuke that's probably too big for its own good anyways.
As long as the new cards provide new win conditions and don't just replace what Questlock lost I doubt we'll see a lot of Soul Rend
The soul rend package may not be good next expansion
but maybe im wrong
I bet the unrevealed warlock legendary does something with the curses, I think the curses will be a set mechanic similar to soul shards
Doesn't look so great, paying 6 mana for just 4 damage is a bit too late. Control doesn't need chip damage anyway.
Entitled Customer seems just better: bigger clear and leaves a body on the board.
The way this card is worded indicates that we're probably going to see more cards that generate this curse card for your opponent (we still have quite a few Warlock cards left to see). If one of them is decently cheap, the damage could add up when paired with Tamsin Roame.
Also, depending on the curse cards we see, it's possible that this package could see play for burn in Murloc Warlock.
Good card in a Control Warlock deck, 4 damage aoe with a bonus effect better than old Flamestrike.
Warlock already has Full-Blown Evil though, which is way more versatile, and deals with most boards without hitting your side, if that's relevant. And the curse is hardly anything. Your opponent is easily going to have 2-mana to spare before the curse builds up to any significant damage.
It doesn't matter? You're burning 2 of your opponent's mana every time you play it, AND they are still guaranteed to take the damage once. If you play four curse cards that's the equivalent of a Fireball to face, assuming it does actually start at 0. And there are absolutely going to be more than 2x cards that add curse.
And since some will almost certainly be cheap you can force them to choose between extra damage or waste a turn
I mean you could probably fit both of those cards into Control Warlock
I'm pretty sure this card means that "every curse that is added to your hand deals 1 more damage than the previous one". So the first curse always deals 0 damage per turn. The second curse that is added to your hand deals 1 damage per turn, the third deals 2 and so on.
I find it very unlikely that the damage of this card ticks up every turn it's in your hand, because if that was the case, it would be worded as such.
