Playing only a few classes

Submitted 5 years, 5 months ago by

since i have almost every card from each class(except hunter) i wonder on which classes i should focus more while ignoring or even worst case disenchanting the cards in other classes... the hearthstone expansion are really expensive for me(even if i buy 80+50 packs bundle it wont be enough for all classes).

so i was wondering which classes you guys think i should hold on ? i really like rogue and mage for the fun perspective, i loved to play priest but priest is rarely very good or gets most of the time shity greedy cards. im one of the old players where i loved to play the 40 minutes control warrior matchups.

the only class i dont like is hunter... im not so sure about shaman either(the overloard mechanic sucks). Control warlock could be again possible in the future, but doesnt seem to be like that now(next exp maybe). i will still hold on to the cards, its just for future reference.

hope you can help me a little bit out on that on. i know its personal preference . to make it short : im more of a control player, but also like to play Tempo Rogue if it in a meta aviable.. hate playing aggro decks,

Firstly, I wouldn't disenchant cards from 'disliked classes'.  The classes shift and change and what you like now won't be true later.  If I had disenchanted classes I didn't like back in 2014 (Rogue) I would've been unable to play Tess rogue, one of my favorite classes.  Meanwhile folks who threw away hunter cards for being 'too aggro' missed on out the slower midrangy decks they ran just last year and might've liked the mech version which is more tempo than 'do me face'.

For example, you talk about shaman overload sucking, but my favorite deck right now is Murkey Shaman:

Which uses almost jack all of overload and that overload doesn't really affect you (your key turns are around turn 5+ and you typically cast the overload cards at 3).

Personally I focus very little on class and focus more on archetype and decks.  Each expansion when I get my cards, I look to see what sort of decks I can make with them and which decks I can make that I would like to try out if I just craft 1-2 more cards.

As for what to do now.. wait.  We're LITERALLY going into a new set and there's no way to tell what that set is going to do.  We won't know which classes will have control based decks and there's literally no point to trying to guess now when you can just wait for after the expansion and know 100% which decks you'll want to make.

Basically, just wait.  Enjoy the hype train. Look at the new cards.  Leave your collection, dust, and gold as is and collect all you can.  Buy your packs, open them, let the folks with $2000 hearhtstone budgets buy and make all of the crappy decks.  Find out what decks YOU want to do regardless of class, then make them, be happy, then start saving for the next set.

Why trade with minions when you can face for...billions?

He said it very well, i would never disenchant cards from a class i simply do not like or play - you never know what the future will bring. Sure you can focus on one or two classes, but that doesn't mean you will never play other classes.

For example a friend of mine played hunter almost exclusevely - he had like 4000 wins with hunter and the next most played class from him was mage with about 100 wins - a year ago he decided to play other stuff and liked Shaman and Paladin too - so i would recommend to not dust anything from a class you do not like etc.

Challenge me ... when you're ready to duel a god!

I do not own one single paladin card outside of the basic ones :D I just hate the class and its whole design, have zero ranked wins on it ( while having three golden heros and playing the game since naxxramas ) and allways disenchant a card I get for pally immediately. That being said I still agree with the others telling you not to dissentchant any cards just because you dont like the cards. Only trash your duplicates so your collection stays nice and full :) !

you re lowering your chances to get another legendary cards by dusting Paladin legendaries since there is no-duplicate legendaries rule. Hold at least Legendaries to gain the chance of getting another legendary.

Best way to go is not choosing classes you like, but choosing classes you definitely DON'T like. If any.

It still takes time to choose wisely, without regretting it later, and it's definitely a subjective decision that nobody can help you with.

Something I’ve noticed personally during my time playing, most of the time when I disliked a class, it’s less because I didn’t like the class and more because I didn’t have the cards to make a deck I liked for it.

Since I had started I never really enjoyed playing Shaman, always got bored of it really quickly. But a few months ago I had opened a few legendaries for it that looked nice, so I went ahead and crafted Hagatha and ended up really enjoying the deck

Who needs consistency when you could have fun?

yeah i can understand that too. but i dont want to invest every 3 month over 100 euro into this game.. its really not worth it becouse of the rotation every time. so i need to focus on classes i really enjoy and can maintain... playing arena is just to boring and grindy for me.

i DE for now warlock. im not really interested in the being competive, but more of the fun site.

rogue and shaman, seems to be really fun next expansion.

im thinking of DE paladin cards(when was the last time control paladin was a thing????). and warrior, dr boom is just to tiling and unfun for me. ofc i wont DE classic cards of warrior.

Do you plan going F2P in the future? Or will you still buy at least one of the bundles?

I feel like even the small bundle is enough to keep up with most of the meta, you just have to chose your legendarys wisely. Focus on the decks you want to play and not on the class would be my advice.

Disenchanting an entire class is not even that profitable. Assuming you got all cards of the class, you would only get 1350 dust per expansion for disenchanting everything.

    800 for the 2 legendarys

    400 for epics

    150 for rares and commons.

If you realy need the dust, disenchant some useless legendarys from older expansions that never will see play (Griftah, Harbringer Celestia, Duskfallen Aviana, ...)

already done that.. yeah probably only buying the 50 packs bundle+3k cold. hope that will be enough for most of the time

Well think of past expansions, have you crafted cards that, say, a few weeks later you stopped using?  Or decks that you thought were good and found out just didn't work out?  Or decks you thought were fun and bored you after a while?  I know in my case that's where a TON of my dust went off to. I would see a deck I want to craft, dust  bunch of things to make it, then in  a week stop using it.  Then later I would need to craft the cards I dusted before.  Meanwhile I STILL regret crafting Shudderwock right after the Witchwood expansion.  That's 1600 dust I could've used to make the murloc warleaders that's keeping me from any decent murloc deck, for example.

If you aren't a Whale, the #1 most important resource is your dust.  That, far more than gold, will determine whether you feel you 'have enough' in an expansion. I don't care if you want to solo one class or play every class, whether you play for fun or for competition, whether you suck or are good, crafting the right cards will give you the decks you need for the entire set while crafting the wrong ones will make that gold and cash seem worthless.

Don't think about how much of your collection you have or what legendaries you open.  Open your packs, then think and research very VERY hard on what decks you actually REALLY want to be playing for the next 4 months.  Go watch streamers, or tournaments, or use the deckbuilder, or whatever, but LOOK at those decks and think "I'm going to be running this for 4 months. Am I SURE this will do for me?" If you go this route I would say, pick about 5-7 of them perhaps.

Once you say YES to those decks, then look at your collection, see which of those decks will require the least amount of dust to craft.  Then see how many you can make with the dust you have. Note that this is BEFORE dusting golden cards or duplicates, nevermind your bad cards, NEVERMIND any other dusting.  JUST the dust on hand.  Craft THOSE decks.  Then play them.

After that, if you want to craft a new deck, start with the cheapest to replicate, and start with dusting and ONLY dust just enough to make THAT ONE deck.  Myself I rarely hit the 'dust dupe' button: I manually kill enough duplicates to make THAT deck.  Once I'm out of those, I dust the goldens, then the bad wild cards, then the bad standards, then so on.  But usually long before then I am too busy playing the decks I already made to do anything else.  Right now I'm OBSESSED with Muck Shaman, so once I made that I haven't had a reason to make anything else.  Even if a quest demands a different class I just use the autocomplete to make 'the best deck' to get wins off of, or else use Brawl.

The idea is to limit the dusting to just what you need to be content.  Make a few decks, play it, just make enough decks till you are happy with your decks, then stop.  And make it just 'annoying' to dust to make you think.  I've had a few decks that I wanted to craft then, when going to collectio nto hunt for goldens I went "do I REALLY want this deck?" and realized, not REALLLLLYY, so I didn't.

If that big mess of text helps then it might make these next few sets easier to handle for your budget and collection.

    TL:DR SUMMARY

    1. Dust is PRECIOUS.  For anyone not a whale, this will make or break your enjoyment of a set.  Treat it like happiness-wrapped Gold.

    2. Be aware of past times when dust was misused: decks you crafted then stopped playing soon after. cards you later stopped using.  ext.  That's wasted dust that could've been used elsewhere.

    3. Be systematic in a new set:  Know WHAT exactly you want. Know the decks that WILL get them to you.  You don't need ever deck in an expansion, just the RIGHT ones that you will be able to play for 4 MONTHS without giving up on them.

    4. Start with the deck that requires the least amount of dust.  Then make those, play those.  Then slowly add more expensive ones until you're 'happy' with the decks you have. Then STOP.

    5. Don't make dusting easy.  Don't pre-dust.  Dust only as needed.  That INCLUDES that blasted 'dust duplicates' button.  If you need to dust, rethink "do I REALLY want this deck?" Make SURE you do.

    6. Hope this helps.

I started off exclusively playing hunter (since I was brand new to any kind of CCG beyond actually collecting Pokémon cards simply because I loved all things Pokémon regardless of context at the time), but eventually noticed that within a year there was often 1-2 dominant classes with 2-3 other secondary classes that would challenge or overcome one or both of the top classes, and the cycle would run through each class.

If money isnt' a big deal and you like playing 8 of the 9 classes, just keep collecting and enjoying the game the way you play it! It seems like you'll always have viable options unless hunter become so utterly broken that all 8 other classes fail to challenge it at all in the future, so just keep ignoring hunter and collecting all the cards you want.

If you really dislike hunter, that can be your auto-disenchant class for extra dust for other classes.
