We've got a teaser and the date for the start of card reveals for Hearthstone's next expansion! Here's what we know so far:
- Card reveals for 2022's second expansion begin in June 27.
- The theme seems to be Castle Nathria as we see mentions of the castle itself and a picture of Sire Denathrius, the Master.
- For those unaware, Denathrius is a major part of the World of Warcraft Shadowlands expansion. Fitting since we had that Shadowlands skins bundle last year.
As usual, you can expect full card reveal coverage from us at Out of Cards. Stay tuned for more information as it comes out.
Sidenote: Looks like our predictions of a sooner-than-normal expansion and a patch this week are coming true.

True, but Sire Dentahrius and his sword Remornia were the only thing that was positive!
My understanding is that the Shadowlands themselves are pretty interesting, but poor storytelling and spending too much time in the Maw ruined it. If you want players to enjoy the game, you don't keep sending them back to the place designed specifically to be hateful. You should use it once or twice to convey the horror, then move on. Just imagine how much less people would like Halo: CE if it kept sending you through the Library, for example.
Anyway, there's plenty of good stuff for HS to use in the Shadowlands, especially as it isn't anchored to the gameplay and story issues WoW had.
I was not the biggest fan of WoW when I played it, but the entire time I played through Shadowlands all I thought about was how themes and mechanics would translate into HS. I want an MSoG style set with allegiances, but you can choose which faction to join and that would give you access to different mechanics/cards while making your deck like how you could choose which Covenant to join, and you could get specific themed abilities and buffs from them.
That would be neat, though I suspect it would be easier and more effective to take the conventional approach and split the Covenants up across the classes that best fit them thematically. In practice, only a few of classes ever use set mechanics available to everyone (ignoring super broad things like keywords), so they might as well commit them to specific classes and have better control over power and theme as a result.
Don't get me wrong, I'm down with the idea of making a weird Bastion-rogue deck, but I can't help feeling I'd prefer the class focusing fully on Maldraxxus' Houses of Eyes and Plagues.
Also a new Card-Type right (for example: Herocard, quest)? Maybe an extra resource like Anima?
Denathrius wields Remornia, maybe minions that turn in the weapons or something?
so early ?
I really wanna see an upgrade to the progression system for BG this patch. its so damm Boring :(
Dreaming of Ulduar themed expansion since 2020
:(
anyway, new expansion is always great
Awesome B-Day gift!
Happy birthday!
It feels like 2017 all over again.
Expansion 1: heavily based on the enviorement with mostly unknown creatures and the protagonists are supported by a LoE member
Expansion 2: introduces a new card type and has a dark theme
Expansion 3: new pve mode (merc endgame?)
Though the pace is definetely a lot quicker this time around. I wonder if this has something to do with the 3. expansion being bigger than normal. Maybe the 3. expansion will be split into parts of like 65 cards that get released each month.
Also what happened to the event of this expansion? This would be the first time they are going to introduce a event with the expansion announcement patch.
IMO, "Dark" expansions were the best in lore, art and graphics. I know nothing about what this place is (need a Goliath post) but I'm hyped!
Matter of taste, I liked the light-themed expansions for the colours and jokes in the art.
The dark theme is always a good change of that format though. Wished they did dark themes in the winter.
Well, I'm at winter right now, so maybe that's why I like it!
I'd say that every expansion is fit with jokes, and that's something nice of this game!
Seconded, Goliath to the rescue!
Whodunnit-themed set? That would be pretty sick.
The Witchwood started as a whodunnit expansion (Murder on the Gilneas Express was the dev name IIRC), so it makes sense that they'd still have that theme in their back pocket.
Exactly my thought too. Some kind of Clue type mystery with each class having a 'suspect' as their legendary. Shadowlands overall has a big variety of characters from azeroths past to pull from. Be real fun idea for a custom set if that's not the case.
So I guess we should expect lots of dreadlords, vampires and lifesteal. Probably also a collection of WoW's villains to diversify the legendary lineup.
If rogue still doesn't get its own deathrattle minion when going to the Shadowlands, then we will truly have exhausted all hope for it.
A detective does not fit in this theme. In WoW, Denathrious funneled all the anima of his kingdom to the Maw (Hell), while his peasants thougt there was an anima-drought. Only the high elite could use the anima (which is an life source)
