We've got a brand new event in Hearthstone's Mercenaries game mode and it's here only for a limited-time! This time, we'll venture into many dangerous Bounty zones with the aid of Yogg-Saron, fan favorite for its Constructed shenanigans and the third Old God that has come to pay us a visit.

As you can see, these tasks are quite the mixed bag: while some are fairly simple to complete, others require more than a bit of thinking (and luck: that one's always welcome) and planning ahead.
Moreover, certain tasks clearly state that you need Comps consisting of Mercenaries belonging to specific races in order for your progresses to count: while the Y'Shaarj event was about Humans and Pirates, this time you'll need the help of Naga and Night Elves!
Not all challenges might be as difficult as they seem at a glance: there are usually tips and tricks to be found to make everyone's lives easier. In this series of guides we'll take a look at how to complete each event Task, so that you'll be able to get your hands on all the rewards available. As of now, we'll focus our attention on the current task.
In case you missed them, if you click the banner below you'll have access to each of our task guides for this event.

How to Complete the "Absolutely Smashed" Task from the Yogg-Saron Event
- Requirement: Complete Heroic Coren Direbrew Bounty with only Casters in Blackrock Mountain.
- Game Mode: Heroic
- Rewards: 50 Yogg-Saron coins, 50 random coins.
- Difficulty: 3/5
As the Yogg-Saron event enters in its second half, we venture into the Blackrock Mountain zone with the Coren Direbrew bounty as our goal.
As you can see from the picture below, Coren Direbrew will appear on the board as a 12/300 Fighter with two 9/200 Guzzlers With Taunt. Moreover, Coren Direbrew has an aura effect that gives each character that attacks +3 Attack - we'd like to make it clear that by "attack" Mercenaries does not mean "act" (casting an ability), but using an ability that deals melee damage.
Coren is definitely the enemy unit you should pay the most attention to. It will usually start the fight with Grim Patron 1, increasing the number of attacking characters on the opposing side of the field; after that, Coren will spam Pile On! and Get 'em!.
Coren Direbrew's moveset.
The Guzzlers, on the other hand, have an okay moveset (focused on attacking moves) with great stats: although the 9 Attack is almost harmless, the 200 Health points will allow these units to tank hits and make good use of Coren's ability.
[Hearthstone Card (Aimless Assault 5) Not Found]
Guzzler's moveset.
All in all, this final fight is going to be "attack-focused", meaning that your opponent will try to attack you in as many ways as possible and exploit Coren Direbrew's Passive ability. Additionally, Absolutely Smashed requires you to run a party full of Casters, which isn't the most proficient Mercenary role for physical attacks.
On a final note, we suggest you to keep "rerolling" the bounty's map until you're able to find a path with a Caster Boon, so that your entire party will receive a serious power up.
Suggested Comps
Here are a few Mercenaries parties you can use to complete the "Absolutely Smashed" task. If the task will allow multiple solutions, you'll be able to choose between at least an efficient and a budget comp, so that our suggestions will accommodate any kind of player out there. Moreover, in case any other content creator will provide interesting strategies, we'll make sure to list them below.
Out of Cards Recommendation #1 - ZombiesGoNomNom's Shadow Comp
If you take a loot at your Mercenary collection, you'll notice that the Caster page is crowded with units that have Shadow synergy. Absolutely Smashed seems the right occasion to try out these synergies, as ZombiesGoNomNom will show us.
- You usually want to play Kazakus, Golem Shaper-Queen Azshara-Vol'jin.
- Kazakus, Golem Shaper provides stats with [Hearthstone Card (Wildvine 4) Not Found] and defense with [Hearthstone Card (Build-a-golem 5) Not Found].
- Queen Azshara's [Hearthstone Card (Xal'atath 4) Not Found] provides a little bit of healing each time you cast a Shadow ability.
- Prettu much like Malfurion Stormrage's [Hearthstone Card (Liferoot Staff 4) Not Found] but for Shadow instead of Nature!
- Vol'jin's [Hearthstone Card (Ring of Haste 4) Not Found] makes your entire comp faster.
Out of Cards Recommendation #2 - Holy Comp
Although we strongly believe that Zombies' Shadow comp is the superior pick for this task, we want to give you an alternative in case (just like Avalon) you do not own some of those Mercenaries or particular equipments. For this reason, here's a revisited version of the reliable Holy Comp, this time with 100% Casters.
To prove this comp of being fit for this task, we actually recorded a video showing you that you can pull this off with ease.
- You don't have Cornelius Roame, so you'll have to choose the third Mercenary to support Anduin Wrynn and Prophet Velen.
- Xyrella is great if there are many attackers.
- Natalie Seline is efficient against large boards.
- Uther's Blessing of Protection 1 is worth your attention.
- For the final fight, we went Anduin Wrynn-Prophet Velen-Xyrella.
- There's nothing better than Xyrella's [Hearthstone Card (Subjugation) Not Found] treasure against Coren and the Guzzlers.
- As usual, you win by chaining Prophet Velen's Velen's Blessing 4 into Anduin Wrynn's [Hearthstone Card (Holy Nova 5) Not Found].
Arkvoodle's Budget Shadow Comp
Only Casters is an ambitious, but also very harsh, party building restriction: although you can expect to create some successful budget comps, you'll have to own at least one good epic in order to complete Absolutely Smashed. In Arkvoodle's case, said Epic is Vol'jin because of the [Hearthstone Card (Ring of Haste 4) Not Found] equipment.
Other Resources
Our clever community members set up a forum thread to share your Mercenaries progression journey, and we have added an #mercenaries channel on our Discord server if you want to talk with others in real-time. If you need an assist, you can also respond to this guide and we'll do our best to help you out; the comments are also a great way to share your own comps that you've used to complete the task above.
Good luck taking on any of these Bounties for those sweet sweet coins or just for the sake of satisfying completion!
Comments
I did this one with Nature (Cookie, Morgl, Brukan, Guff, and Brightwing) plus Xyrella, who picked up a Blinding Subjugation treasure and then it was all over for the guzzler gang.
I like the idea of making Coren a protector for max damage.
Completed last task today, I have to say this was easiest event so far.
It's good for newer Mercenaries players.
ONe small addition. If you run Hooktusk with her 2nd equipment you get to sneak a fighter in there without ruining the quest.
Also she can use her 3rd ability to turn Coren into a Protector, which makes the fight a lot easier (and since she will get focussed first you can easily switch in better synergy afterwards)
Smart!
