The only interesting cards here is Bone Breaker and Howling Blast, nearly all others are fairly mundane stuff, aside from Remorseless Winter obviously powercreeping Consecration, in case anyone needs more evidence of DK having just better stuff at launch.
Bone Breaker is a better weapon than Frostmourne and is immediately playable at 0 mana with Runeforging. While DK has yet to show any synergies with weapons and attacks, having a card that tutors a weapon that's immediately playable is a good tempo tool that will be appreciated by any deck
Howling Blast is just good old swipe. The freezing effect is the real winner here.
We've got some spare time before the next reveal, so here are my two cents.
Bone Breaker - Basically Dreadprison Glaive for Death Knight: you hit a minion, you damage the opponent. 1 mana 2/2 is hella good.
Ymirjar Frostbreaker - If Bone Glaive Aggro Frost DK will be a thing, this will be the 1-drop you'll have to answer on turn 1. Kind of a Mana Wyrm, except better. I am glad this doesn't have 3 Health, otherwise we would've been in major trouble. Moreover, looks like Team 5 learnt from Battlefiend's past experience.
Howling Blast - Swipe, but with a Frost keyword, cheaper a that freezes too. You cannot target face, but I bet you'll easily take it.
Remorseless Winter - "Where are the times when Consecration was OP :D" - Sinti
Repulsive Gargantuan - By itself, this card is trash. Things may change with additional support, but it remains a rather quirky effect.
Rime Sculptor - It's a pile of damage, but I am not impressed. Seems like a worse Cold Case.
You actually can target face with Howling Blast.
Shouldnt the 1drop be classed as a undead?
I believe it's a frost giant, and not actually undead.
well according to wowpedia, the Ymirjar are undead Vrykull, or atleast some of them.
Bunch of frost ones (that look like this) are undead, bunch are classes as humanoid and both look exactly the same
It's a vrykul. The Ymirjar are a vrykul clan that serve the Scourge.
I was legitimately thinking of D&D for some reason, not Warcraft lol. You both are right.
Frost deathknight actually looks to be pretty solid.
ymirjar frostbreaker -
It’s a really powerful one drop if you’re running frost spells, having just one in hand makes it a blazing battlemage, a card that saw play the entire time it was in standard
Howling Blast -
It’s a 3 mana swipe/frostbolt, it looks to just be a good burn spell
Remorseless winter -
Consecreation has been feeling awfully sad lately and this doesn’t help, this is like if mass dispell was a board clear, will probably be a strong option mainly for frost/blood hybrids, pure frost might have better spells for its game plan at this rate though
Bonebreaker -
a nice aggressive weapon akin to dh’s deadprison glaive, I think aggressive death knights will really like this
Rime sculptor -
actually surprisingly efficient if you were to compare it to cold case in mage, it still looks alittle unimpressive for a 5 drop though since it lacks rush and doesn’t necessarily build a wincon like mage’s kt, so it might be mostly for frost+unholy builds.
Repulsive gargantuan -
Considering frost’s bursty nature and atleast the current prevalence of big denathrius heals(this might not work against it if it dies but I think it does) it might actually see some play as a tech, don’t expect to see too much of it though as 4 mana is still an unappealing investment for a card can easily just be a vanilla 3/6
Repulsive Gargantuan is a card that in general makes me question where Death Knight could go with it. Upon first glance, it looks like the obligatory "situational Neutral Epic tech card that won't see any play". But if it's a class card, and one that requires one Frost Rune to put into your deck at that, then there's clearly supposed to be something you can do with it in the context of Death Knight that we're not aware of just yet.
Well, Frost is clearly the aggro/burn Rune. Would make sense to have a card that prevents your opponent from just outhealing you, especially since DK seems to be all about Chip damage instead of burst combos.
Considering all of the apparent face damage in the Frost Rune repertoire, I guess he's there as a "haha, you can't heal while I prepare for lethal" roadblock. Your opponent would have to waste time/resources killing him before they can focus on healing, keeping them on the backfoot. The *real* question is if this denies Sire Denathrius's healing before it dies from the effect. That would be huge.
Is that worth a card in your deck? Not necessarily, but I can understand the point of it. If anything, it might be "in-house" check against other Death Knights, specifically of the Blood variety. Class tech cards really shouldn't exist, in my opinion - that should be a Neutral's job - but at least it has a respectable stat-line.
Where are the times when Consecration was OP :D
Yeah, I genuinely don't like how this powercreeps on Consecration. You'd think that extra draw would at least cost a corpse or two. It's unclear to me how much the Frost archetype interacts with the corpse mechanic.
I'm getting really skeptical of the Death Knight design. It seems like they decided to come up with all OP cards and think they can balance it by not having them all played in the same deck. So they're sort of creating 3 different OP archetypes in one class instead of 1 (like with the release of Demon Hunter).
Or be 2(+) runes, to be stricly better version of different class card
And let me tell you about Swipe!
