Descent of Dragons has been announced and with it, we're getting a special legendary minion represented as to give unique hero cards - all for the League of EVIL classes.
Quote From Blizzard Despite the valiant efforts of the League of Explorers in Uldum, Arch-Villain Rafaam and the League of E.V.I.L.’s nefarious plans have come to devastating fruition. They’ve escaped Uldum with the Plague of Undeath and twisted its ancient power in order to resurrect the most powerful draconic force the world of Azeroth has ever known – the progenitor of dragonkind himself, Galakrond!
Read on for details on what to expect of Galakrond’s grand entrance into the world of Hearthstone before he’s added to your collection with the launch of Descent of Dragons on December 10.
What is Galakrond?
The resurrected proto-dragon Galakrond manifests as five unique Hero Cards for the League of E.V.I.L. classes: Rogue, Warrior, Warlock, Shaman, and Priest. Like existing Hero Cards, playing Galakrond will replace your current Hero and Hero Power, grant some Armor, and trigger the card’s Battlecry. However, there’s much more to Galakrond than a traditional hero card:
Upgrading Galakrond
Throughout a match, Galakrond can be upgraded into more powerful versions of himself by playing cards with the new “Invoke” keyword. Invoking Galakrond twice takes him from his base form to ‘Galakrond, The Apocalypse.’ Invoking two additional times will take him to his final, most powerful form, ‘Galakrond, Azeroth’s End.’ Upgrading to each new form doubles the power of Galakrond’s Battlecry effect and playing Galakrond in his final form additionally equips a 5/2 Claw weapon that you can use to swiftly lay waste to your opponent. Once Galakrond is played and his Battlecry has been unleashed, he can no longer be upgraded through Invoke cards, though they will still trigger the Invoke effect.
To give an example of what this winged terror brings to the board, here are the three transformations of ‘Galakrond, The Unspeakable,’ the Priest manifestation of the powerful progenitor of dragonkind.
Galakrond's Gifts
In addition to progressing towards his next transformation, whenever you play an Invoke card, Galakrond (wherever he may be) will also grant an activation of his Hero Power. As an example, casting Seal Fate will not only deal 3 damage to an undamaged minion, but also add a random Lackey to your hand, since that’s the Hero Power gained when you play the Rogue manifestation of Galakrond, ‘Galakrond, The Nightmare.’
Draconic Details
Now let’s go over some details to help you understand some interesting situations you may encounter with the new Galakrond cards. Hopefully this section doesn’t drag on.
- The first Galakrond you gain control of, either in your hand or deck, becomes your “main Galakrond”. Usually this is the Galakrond you included in your deck, but it can also be one you stole from your opponent or received through some other crazy shenanigans. This means any Invoke cards will upgrade this Galakrond and trigger its Hero Power effect. Note that, like Quests, cards with the Invoke keyword and the five collectible Galakrond cards cannot be generated by random effects, such a Discover.
- In cases where your deck contains multiple versions of Galakrond, such as Tavern Brawls that allow cards from multiple classes, your main Galakrond will be the one that matches your class, if possible. Otherwise it will be the first Galakrond detected by the game. Once determined, your main Galakrond remains the same for the rest of the game unless it’s destroyed, transformed, or you replace your Hero with a different version of Galakrond. Once you play a Galakrond, that becomes your main Galakrond until you replace it again.
- One final thing to note is that when you Invoke, it is Galakrond himself that is rewarding you for your efforts. If you don’t have a Galakrond as your Hero, or in your hand or deck, then Invoking has no effect. So, if you steal and play an Invoke card from your opponent, you won’t get any benefit from the Invoke effect unless you have a Galakrond.
We can’t wait to see what devastation you’ll unleash once you have your hands on Galakrond. Good luck, and we will see you in the Tavern!

Yes, Invoke keyword will also trigger after you've played Galakond, say, 'add a random lackey to your hand' if you are a rogue, for example.
"whenever you play an Invoke card, Galakrond (wherever he may be) will also grant an activation of his Hero Power."
But it may 'flip' your hero power button. If so, tap first then play an invoke card to get 2 lackeys.
Off topic but the Blizzcon card, Sathrovarr -- we can craft him, right?
And Anduin and Priest Co. gets to kill a few minions and smack face/minions twice. Hm. Be more in line with "priest character" if we got to MIND CONTROL 1-4 minions of our opponent and got the weapon too. Probably help priest in a meta, too.
yeah sure, let'S give Priest a 7-mana quadra MC, that's not broken or anything
I mean, quadra-assasinate for 7 is already comparable to Psychic Scream in terms of removal and it's not like Priest needs help at the moment (unless they finally trash Divine Spirit)
I'm just going to let you consider whether that would be balanced for yourself...
Sooooooooooo... If you "Invoke", and don't have Galakrond neither in your hand or in play, you nonetheless activate it's HP and advance in upgrading him?
That's insane...
Quoting from the article:
"If you don’t have a Galakrond as your Hero, or in your hand or deck, then Invoking has no effect."
So like C'thun, Invoke appears to upgrade Galakrond "wherever it is", so long as it's actually in the game. Besides, from what we have seen, the Invoke cards appear to be relatively understatted, so a mediocre effect for its mana cost only gets paid off by the activation of Galakrond's hero power. From what we have seen, the hero powers are not insanely broken, and actually compliment the class's deck building mindset quite well. However, whether or not the Invoke cards in combination with the activation of Galakrond's hero power is worth playing at all or breaks the game beyond all meaning, is to be determined.
Seeing how the only confirmed hero power (Rogue) is "add a lackey to your hand" I don't think it'S that crazy. If you look at the Invokers, they are all miserably statted cards.
Rogue literally gets a 3-mana Backstab with spelldamage +1...adding a lacky on top of that seems reasonable at best.
It will really depend on the HP, since Rogue it's the only one seen so far, yeah, it is ok. But if something crazy comes for any of the other classes, well... Let's say that rogue also has the 1-mana give a minion +1/0, "Invoke" AND add a Lackey to your hand. For 1 mana is strong... Let's just think of Zoolock if it becomes a thing... 1-mana +1/0 to all minions AND... do something else.
Knowing Warlock it won't be broken, but... Nothing's broken until it is.
i mean, we could always get another KnC situation where Warlock jumps from garbage to top tier
Yeah, but I don't think it will be on par with Bloodreaver + Skull + Cube + Void.
Cubelock was insane, and I don't think they wanna risk it that much.
Either way, it'll be hit or miss, that's what I think.
Ahh now I get it. Ok that makes invoke an actual keyword and interesting.
They should have an animation for that in the description.
sounds like a redux of C'thun. You have the big daddy and a bunch of underwhelming support cards (balanced by the Hero Power effect). The difference being that Galakrond's battlecry is not so much a finisher but rather a....regular Midrange play...which coincidentally means he's not as much of a dead card as C'thun since you can just play him in a pinch and get some tempo out of him
A mix between C'Thun and DK cards.
Not a fan of this one.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the set.
eh, it's a better approach then before. It's basically Zul'jin: a lategame powerplay that you have to upgrade over the course of the game, with the difference being that the pwoerlevel is much more evenly divided between isntant effect and long term value.
it has a new hero power. like the rogue is get a lackey
Yeah, sure, but it's still a new Hero Card, that can be uograded like C'Thun.
I love how people downvoted my original comment. Too many snowflakes in the internet these days...
'people disagreed with me, so they must be self-entitled ignorant little snowflakes'
Or, maybe they just disagree with you because you have a different opinion.
It's not an opinion that this Galakrond is a mix between C'Thun and DK cards: it is a fact.
It was no argument to disagree about. Just truth + subjective opinion (personal taste), with no implication whatsoever. Disliking it is meaningless, unless you take it on a level it was not meant to be (hence the 'snowflake').
But whatever, i already spent more words than deserved for this...
maybe they misuderstood what u meant. dont like it cause it seems overpowered recycled card\s etc
Hopefully it won't be too busted. They're getting kind of better at Hero cards...
