I may not like the mode, but I'm curious why those who do enjoy it do so. What do you enjoy about BGs?

Not a big fan of the format either, but I do play some games every now and then when I just want something different. My dislike of losing rating (whether it be in battlegrounds or ranked), combined with the RNG heavy nature of the format, prevent it from becoming truly enjoyable for me.
It's a nice break when you're tired of facing meta decks all the time. I never cared about rating, it's just silly fun. Out of all the auto chess type games this is the only one i like because of how simple and straight forward it is compared to stuff like TFT or Dota Auto Chess.
I'll boop you
Im actually equally curious.
I personally find battlegrounds less skill reliant, takes up more time to play, and the rewards aren't great neither. At its apex (around few months after launch) it was kinda interesting but over time battlegrounds was that thing I click to pass my time away.
Maybe its more casual to play BG and thats why its more enjoying, but then again the real question should be why play this when there's other autochess games out there.
Nothing. I have never, and probably will never, play it. The fact that they spent development time on this rather than on features people wanted (I don't recall anyone asking for battlegrounds, and why would they when, in my opinion, better alternatives already exist in the form of TFT and Overlords) never sat well with me.
Besides the fact that the entire autobattler concept has never appealed to me due to it being even more RNG reliant card games.
Nothing against you if you enjoy BG, you do you. I just strongly dislike it.
BG is not my cup of tea either, but having such strong opinions about something you never even tried seems a touch extreme.
I think the fact people do like it and play it a lot justifies its existence, regardless of whether the HS player-base was asking for it. I can't begin to guess how many great things have been made throughout human history when no one knew they wanted them. Heck, from my atheist viewpoint absolutely no one asked for any of the natural wonders of the universe, but we're still glad they'e there.

Anyway, while I rarely play BG because I prefer to play HS with a specific gimmick in mind, I can also appreciate one thing BG has going for it that other HS game modes do not: the ability to change your build in response to what your opponent is playing. Yes there's RNG in what you are offered and how things end up attacking, but you nevertheless have more agency overall than in ranked where deck matchups and draw order can often decide games by themselves (especially if one or both decks are aggressive).
I like to do a couple of bg, switching of LOR games sometimes. Normal HS games dont do it anymore for me.
I like the sense of progession, of getting better each turn. It also works a bit like gambling, refreshing to find the perfect minion.
I really like all of the synergies and advanced boards you can make. In Hearthstone, there is a lot of potential for a lot of big plays, but most of the time those types of huge swingy combos are either not practical or not necessary. In Battlegrounds though, getting Baron Rivendare into Kaboom Bot into some more resurrects into a huge Junkbot is totally possible, and it only gets better when you can double the effect by making them golden.
Carrion, my wayward grub.
I enjoy Battlegrounds a lot...but two things hold me back from actually playing it: the MMR rating, and the Tavern Pass.
I like BG very much and with every passing month since its introduction I tend to play it more and more, with the exception being the season where Aoo and the year rotation happened. I think there are several reason for that situation:
1. Before I used to play Arena and Standard ladder (started playing HS when Old Gods were the fresh exp) and I started to feel like there is nothing more for me to achieve - I am confident I can hit legend every season I care for it, and Arena became too repetitive and it is just frustrating over time how draw/luck dependent it is sometimes. A few times I felt like I got these 12 wins with very average decks just because I top decked like crazy in my games. My point is it may feel unfair both when you win and when you lose. I started to play wild just before BG were introduced and wild kept me in the game, because it was fresh for me.
2. After BG's debut I felt like I am playing totally other game (which is mostly true). It was fresh and new for everyone so I felt like I am growing with the game, watched a lot of streamers and learned and saw new strategies being developed - it was fun for me. So I both played and watched BG more and more.
3. In my opinion BG has the skill-luck balance reversed, when compared to traditional HS. BG is in its basics the RNG game, where luck is everything and your involvement in the game is limited. Players role is to find the way to manipulate the RNG/luck to their favor. Ranked/Arena have it totally the other way - you believe you play the game of skill where strategy is most important, but during the game it is often RNG/luck that plays most important role (card draw = rng).
So points for BGs here, as I feel more relaxed playing it and it causes much less frustration for me. Also, getting top 1 in BG simply makes me more happy than getting 12 arena wins or hitting legend again.
4. You may ask why BG and not other autobattler. I was raised on warcraft 2, which I still occasionally play these days and I love Warcraft lore in general. That is why it is BG for me - I like being around these characters and i like HS's silly/easygoing attitude towards them.
5. BGs games are not as much repetitive as other modes. When I feel like I am tired/bored of those tier 1/2 heroes, I pick other hero I did not play in longer time. I do not care for rating that much, but I manage to stay in the 9-9.5 k range for some time now.
Sorry for the long post, I feel I got a bit carried away.
Cheers guys!
