  • TIL - Hearthstone Edition

It wasn't today but recently I learned that playing a Hero card unfreezes your face. Completely screwed me, because I had this Warrior on lock with my Freeze Shaman until they played Rokara.

  • Okani Bug?

    Pro

Just want to share a visual bug here: I silenced my enemy's Okani, but the icon indicating his counter remained. When I played my next minion, it was not countered, so it was purely visual. I had already tested a spell previously before silencing (with a spell), so I know it was set to counter a minion.

  • Mono-Shurima is not that good

Since decks with higher playrate will have a lower winrate and if it was truly a bad deck, it would not be able to maintain 50% winrate for so long despite having a ton of counters in the meta.

This is a subjective thing. None of the "counters" are getting higher than about a 2% playrate. Since mono-shurima has a 23% playrate, the mono-shurima players have a much higher chance of a mirror than a counter, honestly.

And that's the biggest reason it will continue moving to 50% winrate as the playrate increases.

    That's a fair assessment actually.

If you were to take the top decks according to playrate, Mono Shurima has a favorable matchup against very few of them and has an unfavorable matchup to everything else. But if you were to tally up the playrate top decks that Mono Shurima has less than 50% winrate against decks that Mono Shurima has 50% winrate or more against (including mirrors), it'll see that the decks that have an equal or favorable matchup for Mono Shurima have a bigger presence in the meta than the "counters".

3rd April update: Boltzmann's Reno Shudderwock Shaman, ft. Blademaster Okani!

Thanks to Boltzmann for the deck. It has been a while since I have played Reno Shaman! Blademaster Okani continues to feel solid and fun! Reno Shaman has more or less disappeared from the Wild meta. However, it can still be good under certain circumstances... and gives me some hope for the future!

TIL that the Immune keyword not only shields from damage but also from destroy effects. (I.e. You can't destroy an immune minion with Shadow Words, albeit it reading "cannot be damaged").

You are wrong. Immune does not shield from destroy effect, you can destroy an Immune creature with Shadow Word: Ruin or Twisting Nether.

Immune is basically permanent Divine Shield and permanent Stealth meaning enemy cannot target the minion and it cannot be damaged. Untargeted destroy effect work fine.

Also out of curiosity, which kind of data set are you guys using (personally I use lor-meta and llorr-stats) because depending on the site you're using the playrate and winrates of decks may be wildly varied. But in general, Mono Shurima has 25% playrate while maintaining 49-50% of a winrate. In terms of strength, Mono Shurima is doing well in that department. Since decks with higher playrate will have a lower winrate and if it was truly a bad deck, it would not be able to maintain 50% winrate for so long despite having a ton of counters in the meta.

Is it tier 1 material? Eh, that's a bit hard to say still. Maybe in a week or so, there'd be a more defined meta and they become a tier 2 deck. But there could also be a case where the deck lists gets even more refined and goes to tier 1.

I use Runterra AR from what I am seeing the decks winrate is decreasing by the day going from 53% to 50%. It still has a high playrate tho. Around 19% last time I checked:

    https://runeterra.ar/meta

I also use Runeterra AR, but I use the stats page, and set the time window to the last two days, and that's how I get a playrate of 23% with a winrate of 51.6% over 13k matches.

    EDIT: Targeted destroy effects

Just a threat to give some insights, discoveries, non-obvious interactions, etc.

TIL that in order to play tradeable cards you need at least one card in your deck.

  • Immune Keyword

It should be targetable for "destroy" effects, independent of whether it's a battlecry, spell or hero power.

Damaging battlecries should be targetable but with no effect, just for the continued confusion and key word's integrity. :P

  • New core vs new expansion

While it's certainly possible they'd do something differently, the Core Set is intended to be tied to a Hearthstone Year, and the April Expansion always kicks off a new year, so both ought to drop on the same day.

  • 22 Cards We Want To See in Hearthstone’s Core Set for 2022

Snowchugger was also very good when it was around the first time. With the mech focus in mage, it would be a good low drop for that deck

  • 22 Cards We Want To See in Hearthstone’s Core Set for 2022

Despite the synergies Mire Keeper has with choose one cards from the last 3 expansions, I would rather have Greedy Sprite instead.  I would like to see Druid earn their ramp with minions on board and have a risk of them being silenced or transformed.   Speaking of evolve mechanics, I like the Fel Reaver and Eerie Statue inclusion.

Faerie Dragon was a meta pick during the old Ros-DoD days. It may be hard to believe, but if it were in standard during stormwind, it would be in every minion-based deck around.

    Certainly not useless.

  • 22 Cards We Want To See in Hearthstone’s Core Set for 2022

Useless: Azure Drake too expensive in this meta, Faerie Dragon, Shady dealer

  • 22 Cards We Want To See in Hearthstone’s Core Set for 2022

Mechs: Shielded Minibot just a good paladin mech. Piloted Reaper can fit in deathrattle decks as well. Weaponized Piñata, just silly and one of my favorite cards.

Dragons: Cathedral Gargoyle not a dragon but not a card that got to shine. If they do push dragons I'd love to see this come back. Hungry Dragon is a good big stats, negative effect dragon though I'd prefer Hoarding Dragon for the deathrattle synergies maybe. What would be real fun, a revamped Nefarian. His sister has like 3 reprints, that's so not fair!

Other: Living Dragonbreath or even a Wee Spellstopper version were it only effects adjacent minions.Neptulon or a redo would be fitting with this first expansion as well. Murlocs and the waterlord, what else do shaman need!

Wizbang: I hate that this is a card. It should just be a hero option always. This and Zayle, Shadow Cloak are fun ideas but not as cards. They kinda just feel like a waste in a legendary slot.
