Since Core is refreshed each year, we can make Core cards more consistently impactful and relevant to the current meta.
Note that "can" is not the same as "will." Mark my words: You're still going to need just as many expansion cards per deck as you do now, and expansion Legendaries are still going to dominate.
I have 15 classic packs still waiting to be opened, so should I open them and be done with it or will they be carried forward as core cards once the new system hits ???
You are correct. The Classic meta was very much solved within a couple of months. It's going to be a lot of the same over and over again, only without the "figuring out" period you would normally see at launch.
Reading this list is enough to give me nightmares, but to each their own, I suppose.
There are 343 cards in Basic + Classic. There will be 235 cards in the Core set. That's a much smaller chunk, not bigger.
Maybe you mean you believe the Core cards will be more impactful than the current evergreen cards? Obviously, I can't say that's impossible, but it goes against every move Blizzard has made since the beginning of Hearthstone. It's a fact that they want your money, so why on Earth would they print expansion cards that are not going to be more desirable and more competitive than the ones they are giving away for free?
Will you be able to build a deck with free cards? Absolutely. Will you be able to win Ranked games with decks that use fewer expansion cards than current top-tier decks? Absolutely not. If you think you'll be able to spend less money per expansion and still be competitive in Standard, you are dreaming.
And thanks for the downvotes, everyone. If I'm crushing your weirdly optimistic dreams, it means I'm doing something right.
The dev team use to have a 2 expansion lead time so for the new core set, I think the plans for that would have started well before any controversies. I have a feeling this was always on the cards.
The only thing I could see that may have changed in that time is that they decided to make the whole core set free rather than something that you can build up and craft into.
Won't Murloc Warleader buff ALL murlocs on the board (yours and the enemies) like it use to? Also does Secret Keeper currently buff on anyone playing a secret and if so, will that come back too?
Rotating Core could bring more toxic cards, but if they design it cleverly they could also include smart cards to impact any given Wild meta in a beneficial way against a given mechanic.
Basically an additional chance to have Wild balance itself out.
For this specific format, these cards will return to their original forms. In wild they will remain the same as they currently are. So for example, in the Classic format, Execute will be 1 mana, but in Wild it will stay at 2 mana.
-Go to the tempostorm hearthstone website and check out the best decks. HSReplay is a good resource too (probably better but I am not premium member.)
-Know your deck! I can play a tier 4 deck up to wild platinum in a given month
(but if you want legend you will need a top deck. )
- A deck tracker is a great resource if you are playing on a PC.
Good Luck. I hit legend one time. Metas shift from time to time so you can kind of feel the meta if you play a bunch in a given day. I also find that the later in the day it gets the more difficult my opponents are.
If you only play Standard, you can disenchant your Legacy cards on rotation, but you'll only get the disenchant value, not the full craft value. However, if you do this for all your Legacy cards, it can still be a large pile of dust. Only do this though if you're very sure you only ever want to play Standard: as Duels has shown, there might be new game modes that make use of cards outside of Standard.
For opening Classic packs, if you only care about Standard, it doesn't matter when you open them. But if you care about other formats or modes, you might be better off holding on to them until rotation, since hall-of-famed cards like Ragnaros, Sylvanas and Leeroy should be returning to Classic packs.
I'm only planning to play mainly standard though might dabble in classic for the nostalgia. I won't be disenchanting any card since I have enough gold and dust banked up, and as you have mentioned, classic may have more uses outside of classic format.
Good point of returning legs from HOF. I will have to check if I have any missing HOF cards.
Yep. As i imagined, they are rotating the entirety of the Classic and Basic set. The rotating core set is a good thing but i'll wait and see what cards are going to be added to it before developing any interest of playing constructed again. The new Classic Mode is interesting but i'm not very excited about it. I have to admit one thing though. Reading that Demon Hunter isn't going to be playable in that mode instantly brought a big smile to my face.
Thanks Flux. I asked this in another comment. You have a clearer view of where the game could go (or maybe you have some intel that you don't want to talk about).

Well, this is definitely intriguing for Wild now.

It'll be even more interesting if they wouldn't stop on vanilla Classic and add each and every Year of X to that format.
I'd much more like to relive my favoritest of all time Naxx deathrattle Warlock deck than any of the vanilla. Honestly, that meta was kinda boring.
