  • Legends of Runeterra Will Not See Refunds When Cards Change

I was browsing on a small screen and the first thing I read was 'No Refunds for Card Nerfs', and I was like, WHAT, and then I saw it was for Runeterra. Whew, that was quite the roller coaster.

Anyway, it'd be interesting to see how this design philosophy plays out - hopefully Hearthstone can learn from them (or vice versa).

It's a noble goal and you cannot fault them for trying (until it likely fails and people complain about a lack of refunds I suppose).

Perhaps the real loss is that they might never print any cards that are designed to be bad (e.g. Magma Rager, Majordomo Executus and Desert Obelisk). There are plenty of complaints people throw at the HS design and balance teams, but 'not supplying cards for the meme players' is not one of them.

Sure HS positioned itself at the meme end of the card game market and LoR much less so, but these cards are pretty much free wins for the devs because you know someone will like them no matter how underpowered they are.

I mean with widely different approach to acquiring of cards the no refund policy is fine.

I can't imagine why they used an image of Yasuo for the cover image.

  • Explain to me how blocking works again?

Overwhelm also punches through barrier--i.e., if he didn't have JudgementBADCARDNAME and you had blocked the Ancient Yeti with something and then gave it barrier, then your blocker would take no damage but your nexus would receive 5.  (Not sure if that's as intended or not, but that's how it currently works.)

Yeah, I don't mind the lack of refund, but those are some pretty unrealistic goals. It's fine having some pack fillers that shine in formats like Arena/Expedition. I always think the goal should be to think more creatively beyond Ranked constructed (which is a mode I still enjoy a lot).

This is great, this way they don't feel held back whenever they want to make a change.

The goal is to make all cards in the game viable.

    Well, good luck with that.

  • What is the story behind your username?

I'm a ginger, my wife is asian, and we always joked how funny (and extremely unlikely, though it does happen) that our offspring would be a ginger Asian. It  was our name for the little tyke before we told the fam its gender.  Still waiting to see whether or not his hair develops to be ginger. :P

  • Anyone else think Ionia has a little too much?

Other regions need maybe 1 elusive unit, like Demacia has one. That would help a lot against pure elusive cheese decks.

For regions in general, I think Shadow Isles is a bit overtuned and thus overrepresented right now. Good direct removal throughout all stages of the game, cheap and versatile draw, best finisher in the game (Ledros infinite value), best Champions in the game (Elise and Hecarim). Wraithcaller is also the best allegiance unit right now, leading to a lot of almost-pure Shadow Isles decks with some key cards from other regions mixed in.

  • A Weekend of Wild Decks

I love the tempo quest mage and its about all I'm playing atm. It can win games from unimaginable board states. May have converted me from standard! I have been tinkering with Vargoth to get through Ice Blocks and pesky taunts... Do you have any thoughts on Vargoth and the need for 3 vs. 4 giants? I think the only other difference between my list is I've grown to like Research Project more than the Licensed Adventurer... this deck feels bad when you can't draw to your win cons.

It's a tom waits lyric and the way i feel playing most games... "Small change got rained on by his own .38"

  • Demons in Hearthstone Battlegrounds are Being Nerfed this Week!

Those may be a problem in the future after "the next big patch" (??) but right now if you are in demons you are guaranteed top 3 almost every time.

  • Demons in Hearthstone Battlegrounds are Being Nerfed this Week!

It sure would be nice to know more in-depth thoughts from the team on this... like what nerfs they are thinking of and when they will drop. Runeterra is definitely raising the bar on transparency and keeping the community involved in the discussion. Blizzard has got to learn from this ;)

  • What is the story behind your username?

I got mine a long way back, around 2006. A friend of mine used the name Fedrion as his DnD Human rogue alias, after our 4th DnD night his character died and he was looking for a name for a Paladin to join the party again, he couldn't made his mind and I said "Hertzeid or something like that, German sounding paladin" he liked the idea and used the name I came up.

He did impressive, his dice were on fire and his freaking paladin was critting every single time... But after that night he left the game and moved to another country with his mother.

So I've been Fedrion Hertzeid / Fedrion / Hertzeid in every game since then, except when I created my second LoL account named "MeatPancake" to break a friends win streak.

i was crushed at my final battle against a jynx/draven deck believe me agro finds it way.

  • help with expeditions

i not finding much sucess with Heimerdinger his high cost and small body make him a bad curve play, also  it  goes off the board like a brezze, i guess i still not a good pilot XD  i will pick him when  I get some better tips on him he is fun trough.

What a great article, keep up the good work! 👍

  • Classic cards missing

I was logged off, my name was missing when I played a game. Some strange stuff was going on. But this morning all was fine again.

  • What is the story behind your username?

My name comes from Ferrovax or Mr. Ferro whom was briefly introduce in the third book titled Grave Peril of an 20-something series called The Dresden Files.

My profile pic is Rory Williams as "The Last Centurion" from Doctor Who. Mr. Ferro went to the gathering(that he was introduced to both the readers and the MC of the seris) dressed as a Roman Centurion and Harry Dresden(the MC) gets a very distinct feeling that Mr. Ferro's outfit was authentic and not a costume.

I use Mister Ferro and the same pic everywhere.

  • Demons in Hearthstone Battlegrounds are Being Nerfed this Week!

Unless you haven't played recently, but Spawn of N'zoth is barely played in comparison to Demons. Demons beats everything, and is very highrolly and makes any other tribe nearly obsolete. Without poison to keep it in control, getting big enough means guaranteed win.

  • Commander Ledros ought to round down

    Quote From Bystekhilcar

I'm not suggesting you remove him. I'm suggesting that when your opponent is running an extremely inefficient 8-drop onto the board, your corresponding board play should be stronger. If it isn't, the burn effect is doing little beyond clocking you one turn faster - you're still going to lose to the board. Similarly, if you're losing because you're both down to topdecks and he can bounce Ledros as well as play off his deck, you're again not losing to the burn - you're losing to the bounce. In either circumstance, the burn is entirely incidental - it's the other parts of the follower that are causing you problems, but you're targeting the burn as the part to be concerned about.

    Quote From Bystekhilcar

The counter, at that point, is that your opponent is spending eight mana on a burn effect and an 8/6 fearsome.

If you're still losing the board when they're doing that with their turns, you'd be losing either way. 6+ mana effects are phenomenally powerful in this game, and this one is entirely a burn win condition. As to the thread title - as above, really. If you're at 1 HP, literally any burn will kill you. Who cares if it's an 8-drop, you're dead to a stiff breeze.

Honestly, in a meta where aggression and Elusive are strong, to be complaining about a phenomenally slow, inefficient burn mechanism is endlessly confusing to me.

I'll give you a practical example why this card needs some changes.
I had a game where opponent was with a full board of tokens/creatures max power 2.
He was at 15 health, I was at 5 and I only had 1 unit on my board.
I was gonna lose, as simple as that.
    I dropped Ledros, I attacked, I won.
    It's kinda not fair.

  • Which card are you going to miss the most from the upcoming rotating sets and how would you replace it?

Definitely Luna and Pocket Galaxy. How I love my minions to cost only 1 mana...game will be very boring without this.
