  • Quite the insightful article. I do tend to gravitate towards dragon builds more often than not, especially when offered Prestor's Pyrospawn at tier 3. I do think you got lucky with that Maexxna into reborn combo though

  • Kinda seems a bit off having a WoW manager post the announcement of the announcement for HS. I understand they want to showcase everything Warcraft related, but grouping them all together like this seems weird. Maybe it's coz there's no Blizzcon this year and they want to keep everything low key.

Lets also hope there's no blizzard drama during the reveal season, we'd already had 2 seasons ruined

  • This expansion didn't ever feel oppressive. The metas that followed are a different story. Looking back, I think the only "bad" thing that came out of DMF was Tickatus but remember there were a lot of Highlander decks during his reign which had many key cards. He was barely pulling any weight during Barrens and was completely forgotten by the time Stormwind came round as Quest Warlock haunted everyone's nightmares.

There's quite a few cards from this expansion that are invaluable to current archetypes. Excited to see what a lot of classes will look like once rotation happens.

Side note: Would be quite cool having articles showcasing the best cards each class is loosing in Year of the Phoenix

  • Thanks Cupcake, you're a star ⭐

  • I can't wait to see this expansion rotate. So bored of it already, even more so than AoO. Didn't like the theme and boring decks like face hunter are basically a third Scholomance cards. Funny thing though is I can't really pin point one or a few cards I dislike, it's just the expansion as a whole I want gone from standard already.

    Is it April yet, guys?

  • Something quite interesting about the cards above that I'll point out. During AoO release, most of these cards were considered too weak, hell even Aldor Attendant and Libram of Justice got buffed and Incanter's Flow was hardly seen. Just goes to show how OP Year of the Dragon was, that those expansions had to rotate first before we could truly hate these cards.

I despised Libram pally after a while, purely coz it was such a boring, linear deck. Pity Paladin didn't get much else in Year of the Gryphon (aside from secret Pally). After rotation, Paladin will be in a rough spot, so here's hoping the next expansion has some cards that can create a new archetype for the class.

  • Very cool word search theme to get members to check out the fan content, WP!

Bring back (or introduce) the Elemental Lords, replacing or Dragon friends in the Core set and then let us explore the different Elemental planes across content this year.

It would feel rather weird not having the dragon Aspects in Standard for once, but I can get behind this idea. We also don't know anything about the new core set and how many current core set cards are staying around for another year.

Also, does anyone know what will happen to the Year of the Gryphon gameplay achievements section once the rotation happens? I assume it'll get replaced with the new Year of the... and we won't be able to complete the current achievements anymore.

  • Oh my bad 😅 I totally forgot about about you! 🤦‍♀️

  • TBH, Scholomance didn't appeal to me that much, it was just another one of those whimsical HS expansions, with too many OP cards but the dual class mechanic was a breathe of fresh air. The only card I'll really miss is Vectus. He enabled some really spicy deathrattle archetypes but got overshadowed too quickly by better cards.

  • I'm surprised none of the staff mentioned they'll miss the old gods. Ahem...the old gods are the best thing that came out of this expansion and will be very sad to see them go, would never get bored of them.

Aside from them, there's very few cards a really enjoyed in DMF. Tent Trasher had cool art but that's my dragon bias for you.

Oh and does anyone remember Grand Totem Eys'or? Yup, neither did I till I went through the list of cards from this expansion.

  • It's so funny reading the Kazakusan section with all the LOCUUUUSTS!!! mentions 🤣like you can't really be serious about it, especially when you read the card name as is, with the scream 😅

  • Top 3 for AoO

Augmented Porcupine: I really wanted control hunter to be a thing, and the idea of buffing this beast up and having it clear the board once dead was just the perfect board clear design that never worked out.

Zixor, Apex Predator: Same as Porcupine, such an awesome control/value card, and I loved buffing Zixor Prime with Dire Frenzy.

Skeletal Dragon: Such a boring name for this card but guess this was the expansion right after DoD. Just biased as it generates dragons and pushed a dragon/control/value archetype

Hearthstone makes more money than most AAA games do per year.

Now this is interesting, if only we saw the stats on how much money HS is making, but doubt we ever will.

Overall all the points above are very interesting and it's a pity they aren't this transparent all the time. It's totally understandable now why Mercs is in the state it is in, purely coz now we know Team 5 didn't expect players to finish content in a week and collect excess coins so quickly.

    Very insightful stuff here

  • All the best for your new journey and endeavors Ben

PS: I'm pretty certain he's joined the new blizzard IP survive game team: https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/blizzard/23768911/create-a-new-universe-with-us

That said, if you haven't yet seen this round 6 game from Masters Tour Onyxia's Lair, you absolutely should witness these special moments of random magic.

Well said, that game was just bonkers 🤣

  • Blizzard does change these dates sometimes, think they did that for the Wailing Caverns mini-set when Mercs was released which delayed the release date of the Deadmines mini-set. But to be fair, we do have 58 days to buy the Onyxia lair mini-set, so it's not too bad.

Also hope this means the next expansion is launched on the 5th

  • Well, same can be said about streaming services, there's Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime etc and worse, you have to pay a subscription for each. Also, it'd be a scary world if there was just 1 game launcher to rule them all (like Steam) coz monopolies in general are bad.

  • Imagine having Prince Keleseth added to the Core set for this year. Would definitely spice things up!

  • This article is two great 😜

22nd of Fed is both a palindrome and an ambigram. The date will be read the same from left to right, right to left AND upside down!
