  • With proper support it swings board. Even without support that's deal 1 damage to everything. And he enables the monster that is Mordresh Fire Eye.

Is there a reason not to play this guy?

  • 10 damage to everything. And that on a 10/10 stick. I don't have words. If its consistent, this is just insane.

Still it does commit you to using hp, so that's one very big condition to fill. Even with 2 Reckless Apprentice, its likely you'll either need Fallen Hero or do a few hp yourself.

I'm a bit on the fence, especially given that its a 10 cost card. But the pay off is so good, that you just got to believe.

  • If ever there's a card that needs support its this one. Its just so weak looking its just sad. And since this doesn't even trigger the deathrattle, what exactly is it that we're hoping for this card?

My only hope is that there's some crazy card that's not very good because of the battlecry but has an insane deathrattle to justify this card's existence. Until then, this is hot trash on a cold day.

  • Its not really that bad, but far from good. The problem is that your opponent will surely be playing around this card, so any impact will likely be less than we think. Also there's the fact that it has to be outcasted to ever be good, because of how poor his health is.

The correct comparison would be Illidari Felblade, which at very least lets you choose your targets and sports a high enough attack stat that will almost always kill something. This card, with its meager 3 attack, would only kill if your opponent makes a mistake, or if there's only 1 minion on board.

Im not sold on this card as yet, but there's still plenty of cards down the line, so I'll just chalk this up to a maybe, but that's a very small maybe buried in mud.

  • In duels, it absolutely crushes the first few matches and in standard, honestly, the cthun cards aren't really half bad when you think about it. If you're playing a draw heavy deck, is there a reason not to play it?

  • lol, yeah I mess that up. I always though he costed 3.

  • The card art is blurry, but there's always a chance the pig is actually wearing a blindfold, with the usual set of glowing eyes.

Maybe he forgotten to bring it but is assuredly blind on account of being a dhunter minion.

  • Perhaps the most underwhelming set of cards from dhunters I've seen in some time. Kurtrus Ashfallen can and will be played around until the cows come home, and Razorfen Beastmaster have apparently forgotten to wear the correct shade of green, because it absolutely feels like a hunter card.

Oh well, we play with what we're given. Kurtrus isn't 100% trash, just very clunky, owing to his bizarre poor attacking stats. One would think that his attack should at very least be the higher of the two, but guess not. So aside from the fact that your opponent can play around him, his poor 3 attack wouldn't likely kill anything but the smallest minions, and to top it up its almost mandatorily required to be outcasted otherwise his poor 4 health means he gets destroyed before he even launches his second attack.

You can get it off Illidari Studies but then again why the hell would you pick this over everything else, like Vilefiend Trainer or even Star Student Stelina, or god forbid, Skull of Gul'dan

As for the pig, the only thing I can think of so far is Nerubian Egg. But since this card merely summons it without triggering anything, its hardly going to start setting the world on fire. I expect to see more support for this guy, but that's one really tall mountain to climb just to make this card playable.

  • Mordresh Fire Eye? Not impressive. Reckless Apprentice...maybe impressive

Mordresh is too expensive, and his effect doesn't even at least guarantee a board clear to create a board swing. And the conditions for triggering it is almost impossible without support cards like Reckless Apprentice, because why the hell would anyone hp 10 times in a game? Unless some really powerful support like "your hp now deals 2 damage" kinda card, I just don't see it. Even if that were possible, I highly doubt Mordresh would be a built around card. Just sort of like a fancy tag-along card that synergizes with your plans.

Edit: well, curse my eyes, he deals 10 damage to everything. Forget all I said. This is just crazy

As for reckless apprentice, with enough support this is basically a board swing. Hell, this is a board swing card that's actually worth while looking at rather than Mordresh because at very least this thing only cost 4 with vanilla stats and will always be doing something, even out of a top deck. Decent synergy with Fallen Hero on 6 to swing board with 3 damage to all enemies. Sort of like a Ras Frostwhisper.

Will Hero power mage actually be good enough? I think team5 can draw experience from Rastakhans that it usually doesn't work very well.

  • The problem this card will immediately face would be actually drawing those secrets, and then playing without your opponent triggering them. And both are not very good signs for this card. So immediately, we can see that hoping to play this on curve is nigh impossible, as triggering paladin secrets aren't really all that hard, but the pay off while being strong is still condemning you to a turn 5 do nothing with a sort of good board depending on how many secrets you somehow kept.

Its telling how even Krip had to rely on a 'Let's wait and see approach', because without some massive amount of support, like a good deal more reasons to play or draw secrets, I just don't see why this card is worth any fuss about.

  • I saw that reddit thread on the kazakus link but thought "They wouldn't do that, would they?". Well, apparently after mean streets, old kazakus here got into a new sculpting hobby and merrily increased his cost by 1 and changed his conditions altogether. My suspicions is that team5 thinks 3 cost cards are too important for certain classes, or they're introducing something 3 cost that simply cannot be ignored, hence the cost bump.

I think its safe to say that whatever the golems are, the mere fact that it can offer up draw 2 cards means it will almost always be good. And on top of my head, there aren't alot of 4 cost cards I'd rather be playing over this anyway.

As for Primordial Protector, its sadly too slow. If spiteful decks aren't making it on turn 7, then I cant see why this card would shape any metas anytime soon. Play this card and unless you literally get rush minions, you're more or less going to die the next turn. The only way this card can even hope to see play is that the 10 cost region is filled with taunt minions, hence you can gamble up for a draw and 2 good stats with taunt.

  • Redgill warrior and Ysera's Boar, I'm calling it now.

  • Short and witty, nice.

    Thanks for the answer :)

  • If I hoard up all my tuskroons until the final day then proceed to buy the giveaway tickets then, that wouldn't change my winning chances right? just asking.

  • Assassin's blade is literally a nerfed SSS. So unless the plan is to remove 1 durability from SSS, I just don't see how they can do it.

  • Agreed. But at least its not impossible to interact with. And I think its better to wait until Barrens is out before cards should be nerfed anyway, its like 3 weeks away.

  • I mean the reveals start in 5 days time.

  • I think team5 would probably wait until barrens is released, maybe a week after that, before looking at this card. Its no doubt this card is very strong, but having most of the burst damage like Eviscerate removed from standard, as well as the very important Southsea Deckhand (to this card anyway), and the introduction of other cards from barrens, it might be a little hasty to call for its death.

Without eviscerate, sap or deckhand, a simple taunt minion will ruin aggro rogue. So I'm not exactly keen on seeing this card get hammered without first looking at what Barrens is going to give us...5 days later.

As for whether its a typo or planned nerf...well, its probably that they were building it from a different server list. Let's not forget that devs are likely to test out cards before releasing nerfs, so its not unlikely that something like this crop out. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

  • Handlock with double Molten Giants, face hunter, freeze mage (experience for yourself the frustrations of double Ice Block), worgen warrior.

But most of all, miracle rogue. Witness for yourself the very definition of broken. Oh yes, we all like to complain about the 'generation' degeneration of today's rogue. How bout a non aggro rogue that doesn't generate shit but kicks your arse while drawing their entire deck one card at a time in one turn.

  • Of all these changes, only Leper Gnome, Undertaker, and Arcane Golem springs to mind as perhaps a tad too far, even in wild, where hyper aggro is legit.

Leper gnome is small and unassuming, but if unremoved on turn 1, its basically going to deal 4 damage to your face for 1 mana. Its a nice buff for an odd hunter in wild, along side Undertaker, perhaps one of the best 1 drop in its time (and I'm not so sure its less powerful now).

Arcane Golem, now that's something that has been forgotten ever since they removed charge from it. Its hard to believe that back in the day this card used to be just about in every aggro deck, and I still believe that with this un-nerf its going to do so again, at least until team5 nerfs it back.
