This card just immediately end games against certain classes, which is why its likely going to get nerfed to 9 mana at some point because theres simply no other 8 drop that puts as much stats as this card can easily do. And with rush as well because fuck you.
What is druid, hunter, dhunter, and certain midrange decks really realistically hope to accomplish against an unholy DK that curves all the way to this card? Its curse implock, kill them by turn 7 or die.
Its only downside is that it doesn't auto win against control decks and youve just thrown away your corpses. For that singular weakness, it lost its fifth star for me. And only because other DK cards are by default strong competition.
Likely going to be nerfed at some point to 2 blood runes, because the idea that this card is available to DK with only a 1 rune investment is just crazy. Considering that mutanus is still seeing play today, in what world are we thinking that an even better one wouldn't immediately be a problem? This card just saps 2 options off the list and as an added fk you it also deals with board. Its like someone in the design team really, really wants this card to be good and so flipped his lid at the last moment.
Our only saving grace is that this isn't a neutral card. Because you can legit have an entire deck build around this as an win con.
If frost DK can keep up tempo this card is dangerous shit. You can legit just get pryoblasted on turn 6, and even if you dont take the full 10 damage there's still a 5/5 on board.
Will get nerfed, because its just absurd. The body itself is already reason enough to play it even if it only ever hits minions. Against control decks this is just 10 damage to face with a 5/5, how is that remotely fair?
Its just useless stuff that's only incidentally helpful against decks that play plenty of lifesteal minions like...blood decks.
I guess if blood DK is overpowered then you can just drop this card and pray they cant remove it. Even spending Obliterate to get rid of it means 6 damage to face, which is very nice for a 4 mana card.
But against all other classes who dont have lifesteal, this card is just slightly better than Chillwind Yeti. In other words, unplayably bad.
Forget about the stats and the tokens. These are bonuses. The main bit about this card is that it puts out tempo and generates 3 corpses for something better like Marrow Manipulator, which incidentally also curves from this card.
And honestly, this card is scary enough. Build up tempo and then blast face with marrow manipulator. Its just solid stuff that will get looked at once everyone figured out that DK is overpowered.
Its just insane how dhunter used to be rogue/hunter but better. Now DK seems to be shaman/paladin but better. What more evidence than a card that's directly powercreeping old Consecration
That said, consecration itself is hardly ever seen today and that's because dealing 2 damage hardly ever kills anything anymore. But the draw 1 will help. Without equality, this card is just another option off discovers - besides being direct middle finger in Uther's direction.
I thought this might be overpowered and then it dawns on me that we're actually paying 3 mana to do a mini Swipe. The freeze potential might be moot because if youre casting this on something that doesn't just die immediately then surely your already on the back foot and the freeze is only a momentary bandage. There's just better freeze cards like Icy Touch that's simply better than this card.
But the fact that it does freeze something means its an option off discovers. I just dont think it'll be an inclusion into decks.
If frost is as good on tempo as I think it might be then this card will get nerfed at some point. Just imagine this card starting as a 4/2 on 1. I think entire games just end right there.
This card is comparable to Dreadprison Glaive for DK, and a very nice tempo tool while also doing damage to face.
But the best thing about this card is that its tutored and costs 0 by Runeforging, which means DK will almost always have some early tempo tool ready. Kinda like how whetstone hatchet used to do for quest warrior.
Its only fault is the need to rune frost runes, and it fact is that there are at least 2 other weapons vying for the same spot. But that's a nice problem to have as opposed to completely unplayable.
Its a 3/3 that will come back as a 3/1 after dead and dealing 6 damage outside of itself. All that for 4 mana. Boring yes, but a very effective 4 drop.
Not to mention that it generates 2 corpses, which for frost decks is fairly valuable. Buffing it to a 4/4 means its strictly the best 4 drop by a very large margin. With so many bs cards from DK I dont need another contender into the 1-month nerf list already.
Just a decent card that'll be included if you're going remotely anywhere near frost. Considering that you have to kill it twice, with 3 attack, and it does 2 extra damage, that's rather alot for a 4 mana card.
All these reborn minions making me wonder whether we'll start just jamming starfish into every deck again.
Lady Deathwhisper is just good since nearly all the frost spells are good. But it does feature a problem in that you need to save up on certain spells until you draw this card to gain value. Depending on how well frost DK can generate or draw spells, this can be either very powerful or just a tech against control decks.
Marrow Manipulator is just a casual Pyroblast to the face because frost DK is basically racing to see how much more overpowered they can get. The only problem being the corpse requirement, but when the pay off is good people will find a way to meet it. Its like Avenging Wrath for comparison, but not only better you also somehow get an additional 5/5 stats - might as well roll over now, Uther. First Remorseless Winter and now this? Can we see a power creeping of Tirion Fordring at some point?
Deathchiller - Not sure how this works because the description is distinctly different from Flamewaker. I think if theres no minions then this only fires once at face. Maybe Im wrong.
Rimefang Sword - Frost DK already features very power spells like Frostwyrm's Fury and can already cheat mana with cards like Horn of Winter. And suddenly here's a card that makes them even better and can be tutored out with Runeforging. That's so much tempo it reminds me distinctly of tempo dhunter on launch.
Might of Menethil - Two good weapons to choose from. Rimefang would probably be favored against faster decks while this is better against midrange and above. Its really all about what you want to accomplish. But if I had to choose between the two I'd just go for rimefang while only does 2 less net damage and is infinitely better. Its not like frost DK is lacking freeze effects anyway.
But to put in perspective, this is still a good weapon that'll find a home in any other class.
The only interesting cards here is Bone Breaker and Howling Blast, nearly all others are fairly mundane stuff, aside from Remorseless Winter obviously powercreeping Consecration, in case anyone needs more evidence of DK having just better stuff at launch.
Bone Breaker is a better weapon than Frostmourne and is immediately playable at 0 mana with Runeforging. While DK has yet to show any synergies with weapons and attacks, having a card that tutors a weapon that's immediately playable is a good tempo tool that will be appreciated by any deck
Howling Blast is just good old swipe. The freezing effect is the real winner here.
Does that mean that the rest of the OG Lich King's drops are yet to be revealed as collectible, or are they stopping at 2?
Army of the dead got altered, so that leaves doom pact and mortal coil. And its highly unlikely that those cards doesn't get a nod in some form. Its practically the two best lich king cards.
The only one I dont think will ever come intact is death grip and death & decay. These two might just be broken without alteration.
If youre running frost this card is just a mandatory inclusion because it basically tutors other overpowered cards like Horn of Winter, Frostwyrm's Fury etc.
The fact that this card comes with a possible AoE effect with a 5/6 body clinches it. I dont think there's any card that does as much for 6 mana as this one. If it had taunt it would have been the most overpowered card to ever be printed, and I have a suspicion that it was once designed with it before deciding against it.
A decent removal option but not great because you're essentially still taking damage, which is the main point of a removal option to begin with. And at 2 mana, its no better in comparison with similar removal options available for other classes
Imagine facing a massive devourer and this card is the answer but losses you the game. What is the point then? But if DK doesn't get better removal options, then this one's an inclusion - warts and all.
God help us, this card shouldn't be allowed to exist. Fortunately, it is not Lightning Bloom all over again.
But Im head scratching as to why team5 even thought such a design choice is fair at all. Reminds me when Twin Slice and Eye Beam was 0 mana, just overtly overpowered design decisions. I know they want DK to be good, but a card like this is hard to balance around and even harder to nerf, because what kind of nerf does one actually impose on this? Make the rune requirement 3? Im sure it matters very little whether we're being destroyed by frost decks or frost+unholy decks.
Just another in a line of overpowered cards for DK.
Deal 4 damage for 1 mana, no corpse requirement, paltry rune requirement. This is just a dream card for any class never mind DK. Would be nerfed before we know it, because a card like this should cost 4 or have the discount only be 1.
Considering that Horn of Winter will likely be played in a deck that features this card, this is just license to burn face for 0 mana.
This card just immediately end games against certain classes, which is why its likely going to get nerfed to 9 mana at some point because theres simply no other 8 drop that puts as much stats as this card can easily do. And with rush as well because fuck you.

If you're going for value, this is the sword for you.
3 shots and discounting spells? Sure why not? Get blasted to the face early by Frostwyrm's Fury just end games in my opinion.
Likely going to be nerfed at some point to 2 blood runes, because the idea that this card is available to DK with only a 1 rune investment is just crazy. This is the new Battlefiend.

Okay, cards;
Deathchiller - Not sure how this works because the description is distinctly different from Flamewaker. I think if theres no minions then this only fires once at face. Maybe Im wrong.
Harbinger of Winter - Its just a better Loot Hoarder
Rimefang Sword - Frost DK already features very power spells like Frostwyrm's Fury and can already cheat mana with cards like Horn of Winter.
