If there's no way to cheat this out this card is trash. In effect its actually redundant because you'd rather just play Lord Marrowgar anyday over this card. And that card cost one less.
But the most disappointing thing about this card is the rune requirement. A card like this should've been free for all, because while its useless in unholy decks it can potentially be a winner in others, if only because babara the sorceress exist. Oh well.
Corpse generator, and a very late one at that. You can't even slot it into frost decks to make Marrow Manipulator work more consistently.
In all honesty, this card might never actually see any play because its in effect a 3/3 that does 4 damage. And at 5 mana that's kinda shit. Its only slightly better than Baba Naga, and that's only because of the corpses it provides.
Such a shame too, because of its obvious connections to our world cup winner.
The key here is the corpses, not necessarily the 2/2s that spawn off it by chance.
Turn one this card, turn 2 Bonedigger Geist, and turn 3 Ymirjar Deathbringer. A really nice curve play. Who knows? this might just be the next big unstoppable turn1-2-3.
But at the end, this card will likely get nerfed. Not because of the key corpses it provides. But because if even a singular 2/2 gets out early on turn 2 while you play the geist the game is just over. Even hyper aggro decks that start with Irondeep Trogg got no chance, let alone a control deck. I'd imagine this card getting a one mana nerf just because of the chance of it ending games in the worse possible manner.
But let's be real here. This card is shit, even with that curve. 3/4s on 2 is hardly new, and by today's standard is just an annoyance at best. The only way to judge this is to see what this curves into and Im not seeing it. Ymirjar Deathbringer needs corpses, of which this card siphons off, and another spidertank on 3 wont win you the game.
Such powercreeping. Back in 2014 a card like this would be immediately broken.
Double 3/3 on 3 is hardly new. Double Agent did it, and its not played today. But I distinctly remember it being quite good when it was played so there's always the chance this thing is just good.
But honestly, I think you'd play this just to get Stitched Giant to 0. And if that's all this card is going to do, that's still a decent product off an unspectacular card.
This is just the kind of card that pisses me off. Because its so obviously broken and power creeping over established cards you'd think the devs were all on coke and make suggestions via dart boards.
To top it up, the effect is lasting, so unlike Bloodlust you can just play this on a few minions and run with it. In many ways it reminds me of Conviction (Rank 1) pre nerfed, except that card belongs to the slowest class in the game. Is there really anything DK can't do? At this point the class might as well be the better paladin class.
So, is there any weakness at all to this card? Yes. Unholy DK is currently* looking like its going to lack draw and the corpse requirement means unless your minions die (something of which most aggro decks dont want to happen) you're unlikely to actually win on turn 4-5. But this is essentially playing against aggro druid with savage roar again - youre needing to clear over and over before they eventually get you anyway.
Potentially a problem, now and moving forward. Because that means you can easily play something that needs corpses, get value, and then slam this for zero mana. That's near the territories of Flesh Giant, except all we need now is a way to rez it back.
Obvious synergies with stuff like Tomb Guardians, and Ymirjar Deathbringer, both of which curve nicely off one another and set the cost of this card to 1.
I really think our week 1 experience will be nothing but DK because that expansion has to work double time matching the power levels of the cards we're seeing.
Its just a poor card that needs cheating out. Because in a world where there's Lord Marrowgar on 8 what's the point of playing this card?
But the baffling thing about its design is its 2 unholy rune requirement. I should think its better for it to be open to all, because in its heart its not that bad of a card, but for an archetype that floods board anyway is there really a reason to even play this?
Yeah, but I was more looking forward to unholy DK flooding board with reborn minions so the board is extremely sticky. That'll make taunts more impressive against them, rather than just removal.
Oh well, we all can dream. Now, its just yet more savage roar/bloodlust bs because why not?
Grave Strength might get nerfed week 1. Its Bloodlust at 4 mana and 4 attack, and for some reason its not for just for a turn. I was hoping unholy becomes that class that floods board consistently but no outright finishers, so for once we can have a game play that isn't just build board and cross fingers turn 5.
Plagued Grain however is weak. Unholy already gains plenty of corpses and this one adds another 4 instantly for a yet to be determined payoff. I guess so Battlefield Necromancer have immediate use on turn 2? There might be something here, but for the moment it doesn't look like unholy can draw very well so this card is hardly helpful for an archetype that want to flood board.
Unholy decks are building board so often you'd think these are paladin cards. Such a shame that old pally himself have so much trouble sticking boards only for the new guy to get all the fun stuff.
I can see Stitched Giant being a problem. Fortunately, its double rune requirement. But in a deck that runs plenty of board this thing coming out for free might be backbreaking, especially since there's so many taunts being generated.
As expected, unholy tends to make up tons of tokens so plenty of corpses.
- Blightfang is just insane shit. Massive punish for having lots of minions. If this thing has a high win rate they might have to nerf it because no one likes to be punished for playing hearthstone.
- Nerubian Swarmguard probably signals there being some kind of handbuff card in the works. On its own its fairly weak, which is surprising given that DK cards are going to be obviously better than average
- Meat Grinder is interesting, but likely its an option for decks that want extra corpses but dont want to commit fully to unholy cards. Because why would anyone whos going full unholy want this at all?
Ive seen poor cards being played before just to satisfy requirements for better cards. If you said to me that I need 5 things to die just so I can play a better avenging wrath with a 5/5 body I'd absolutely do it.
I dont see frost generating a ton of corpses, but that's not to say they can't do it. Rime Sculptor is 5 mana and adds three corpses which is the perfect follow up to Marrow Manipulator on 6. Thassarian at 4 adds another two more. Body Bagger at 1 adds two. And is there really a lot of cards that use up corpses from a hypothetical frost DK deck so far? Not really many if Im honest. So there is a world where you might be able to consistently activate marrow manipulator on 6.
The only problem with this card is redundancy. We already seen Bone Breaker and Rimefang Sword. So where does this fit in? There's only two runeforging and I'd much rather tutor out the two other weapons.
Not to mention the corpse requirement and the lack of corpse options for frost DK. If there's aggro frost DK then maybe, but with the two rune requirement you cant even sneak it into unholy builds, which incidentally this card would fit very well in. Just too bad.
Its likely not as good as it seems to be, particularly if the effect only hit the target once each time (which means its not Flamewaker)
Because of hand size, even two of this card will only ever do 16 damage to face, and that's if your hand is composed only of spells and nothing else. I dont rate its chances if Im honest. The capacity for face damage might even hinder it, because if its not destroying the opponent then all that damage thats not going towards minions is just meaningless.
There's alot of legendaries that will also get you aggro'd down. So that's not a fair barometer.
Similarly there's even more legendaries that are more interesting or powerful but never see play because they dont fit the game plan, or just plain too slow. This card is fine to me, both in tempo and effect.
Frost DK is a midrange tempo deck with some burn options. This card fits the description, and will very likely be played. Sometimes, legendary status can be granted simply to limit its play rates, and if this is the reasoning behind this card's legendary status then that's good enough for me.
I'll be honest, I dont think its as good as it seems. Certainly for the time being anyway, because its increasingly likely that you'll have to kill this yourself to prevent it from being silenced.
But the real problem is lack of tutors for this minion. If its always here on turn 4 then fair enough its fine, very good even. But if youre topdecking this card after spending all your good frost spells what is this card even supposed to do?
The only thing going for it is that being a deathrattle means you can possibly abuse it. And with Horn of Winter that may not be all that hard to make an OTK deck out of this at some point. If for this alone this card gets nerfed it might be a shame, but its scary when it works.
Just a good old solid 4 drop thats being unfairly compared because the rest of the other DK cards are OP as fuck. I mean, this card is already pretty good on its own. Reborn, deals 6 damage, and generating 2 corpses. Is there really anything else that's better as a 4 drop in terms of tempo?
I'd put it into my deck because it does nearly everything. Corpses, stick minion, deal off minion damage. The only reason why it wouldn't see play is the entire meta is fully hyper aggro.
Its just a better Loot Hoarder, and even then Im not entirely convinced. Why is this card 2 frost rune requirement when Bone Breaker, Ymirjar Frostbreaker, etc. only need 1 is something only the devs can explain, because this card is fairly shit.
If there's no way to cheat this out this card is trash. In effect its actually redundant because you'd rather just play Lord Marrowgar anyday over this card. And that card cost one less.

It curves from Body Bagger, which helps.

Okay, nice to know that there's still decent people in the dev team. Regardless, I still think 4 mana bloodlust is asking for trouble.
