You're right, but the hotfix also affects cards that create random cards, not just discovery effects. We just remember a lot more of the discovering cards affected because it's easier to chain them together.
On the surface, Shifty Sophomore seems fine to play on Turn 4. Relatively high health and stealth makes it safe to activate on the next turn, using a 2 mana spell like Sap and get a SI:7 Agent ready to go. The problem with Sophomore and Whirlkick Master is that SI:7 or Eviscerate (and maybe an extra Edwin if you can manage to have the extra cards to fuel him) are really the only Combo cards worth getting, you're just as likely to generate garbage like Headcrack or Perdition's Blade.
Shifty Sophomore's best hope is if Stealth Rogue can step out of Galakrond's shadow, but alas I don't see that happening.
While everyone remembers Chameleos and Lady in White, the card I remember being overhyped was Countess Ashmore. It's The Curator, but it looks at keywords instead of tribes, so it's a lot easier to build around!...
The problem is, Countess Ashmore was too slow, both in the sense of drawing cards that you've probably already drawn because of how limited Rush and Lifesteal that were good in constructed, but also in the sense that it's a 6/6 body that can be easily ignored by aggro. Even when Zilliax was released shortly after, Ashmore was only seen in pre-built decklists.
I think this is scary just because of Galakrond and Heistbaron Togwaggle are still around. So much draw power, nevermind the potential for discounting the card outright! Given that this is Galakrond Rogue which means an endless source of Lackeys, it's possible you've grinded through all their boards, only for them to play the Prime version when you've run out of indirect removal.
idk, I had a lot of fun playing Odd Rogue and Paladin.
Though honestly yeah, they would've been way too good in this year's metas, like imagine Odd Mage when Conjurer's Calling was still 3 Mana: turn 10 and suddenly you're facing two random 7 cost Minions and a Ragnaros.
Even if this isn't really scratching the surface of the combo shenanigans, I'm going to play this in a Tempo/Togwaggle Rogue deck, if only because the Invoke/Hero Power and Galakrond's Battlecry could open up for massive Edwin VanCleef or Questing Adventurer turns.

Amusingly, this is a buff to Jandice Barov, since she can't make a copy of herself.
Dang, nobody likes Blood Herald at all.
Which means that everyone will be blindsided by my Tiny Demon Token Demon Hunter deck when I play a 20/20 Blood Herald!!! Legend here I-
"Greetings friend." *Earth Shock zap noise*
...I yield, for now.

She's also a super-freeze effect for control decks to buy 2 extra turns for answers. I fully expect Maiev to be almost Zilliax levels of play rate.

Thanks for the guide!
I'd call it a buff then, since Effigy would create a higher cost minion from him.
Druid: Lunara
Rogue: Maiev
Paladin: Liadrin
Priest: Tyrande
All the others are the default heroes, though I wish I had Morgl for Shaman if only for my Murloc Shaman Decks.

I watched so many Ads for this card back.
Bird deck is the word?
A nice cold glass of lemonade to go with the Murloc flood.
I wished it randomized every with every pack opening, rather than once per "session"

I'm a simple man. I put Edwin in my deck, I give the deck this card back.
