He’s been great based on stats, he has 3 targets 2 spring paws and the other copy of Gryphon. He does a lot of things for this deck, 3 mana 4 damage removal is great for survival and board tempo while usually drawing a card is a nice bonus. Spring paw is actually the best card based on drawn winrate so it’s really powerful to get consistently. You can use it to feed Scavenging Hynena or Starving Buzzard draws 2 times, and it’s great with Serpentbloom.
I crafted Dreadscale recently and it’s been amazing, hunters generally lack board clears but he has won me so many games with Serpentbloom and because of the large amount of card draw you get that combo up somewhat consistently.
Thanks again for posting this, it’s one of the most fun hunter decks — the only thing I changed is I couldn’t resist putting in Sneed’s Old Shredder instead of bird which I know makes it less competitive but I like how it can make for interesting moments.
The quest requires 21 damage face, but heals for 6, so after completing it you can be at 15hp. However, if you use Crystallizer then you can get 5hp towards completion without actually losing hp. So using one of those, you can be at 20hp after the quest which is reasonably high. Or you can use one spellstone for 7 and be at 22hp. If you combine multiple spellstones (Tamsin Roame can duplicate them) and Crystallizers which is doable since this deck has a lot of card draw, then you can be at even higher than 20hp after completing the quest. Of course aggro is going to try and damage you too, but that's why the deck will have premium removals like Defile and Dark Skies. Also some cards like Spirit Bomb and Unstable Shadow Blast will help remove aggro minions to stop additional damage while helping you progress in your quest.
I'm hesitant to try non-HS alternatives when they keep getting shut down, other than MTGA which I doubt would get shut down just because they have a strong brand and longevity.
The only thing better than when you get Legend with an off meta list you built is when someone else does it, and today someone from my ingame hs friend list managed to get it starting from below Diamond a few days ago using solely that list. Feels so good.
And another person also got legend, so now 3 ppl have done it. Most successful deck I've made in the past year, very happy.
This deck should be winning vs fast decks most of the time, that's its best matchup. What cards are you keeping in the mulligan and what decks exactly are you having trouble with? For me the worst aggro deck matchup is kingsbane rogue so if you are facing a lot of those it might make sense.
Yeah this is more of a fun deck to see it go off when it works but winrate is kind of low. In the future I’m using hsreplay to get 100 games sample size for each deck in diamond 5-1 to be able to provide a real winrate for even off meta decks so people know how competitive it is. So some decks can be really meme like 30%, some can be decentish with 40%, some can be 50%, the first one I tried to test so far was Elemental Shaman which was better than I expected with over 60%.
not sure if this competition is in regards to wild balance but in wild there is the 2 mana gain 10 armor card Bring It On! and seems like it would be very easy to awaken early. Also any warrior deck might play it just to thin their deck like Patches did which might make it too powerful. Maybe have some other card in the deck appear to replace it
I like the first one a lot better just because the 2nd one may be a 3 mana do nothing for much of the game which makes it more like a tech card against combo than a card that can be widely played
What if it was whenever you cast a nature spell, a random enemy minion goes dormant for 2 turns? Too strong? It's like a better board freeze but you have to give up card advantage for it. Maybe have 3/5 stats for 5 mana too since that is a strong effect.

Actually it’s pretty fun! Nice archetype.
Extra thanks for featuring my favorite deck of all time! And glad you’re back with this series in general, lots of interesting decks to see.
I know of 2 bugs with deck builder on mobile, maybe this info is helpful:
1. Typing an apostrophe ‘ on mobile in card names makes it an incorrect card name.
2. When pressing the Card button after selecting a card name it removes a space from before the name.
I know this isn't a very good competitive deck or guide or anything but it's fun for me so I want to save it on here.

It turns out you were right, but you said it too early. After Starving Buzzard was buffed your hand size is larger so Tundra Rhino is now a good card.

A third person got legend with this deck today.

Does anyone remember what happened to Elder Scrolls Legends? I played it for years and liked it more than Hearthstone and it also got shut down.
Thanks for commenting! Really gives motivation to keep writing this type of guide.
That's a nice deck but it's not a reno deck, it's a midrange galakrond version.

Someone on my ingame hs friendlist got to Legend from below diamond solely with this deck.
Thanks for the idea on what to add to a guide on discord!
