Season 2 of our Weekly Card Design Competitions started back on August 31st of 2020 and ended up carrying into the new year. On January 18th of 2021, season 2 comes to a close. That means it's time to go back and recap everything that happened this season on this special Fan Community Spotlight. This season contained 20 main comps, and 2 side-comps. Main Comps
Side Comps
In the middle of the season, there were two side-comps. Trick and Treat was part of our Oozefest celebration and was held parallel to competitions 2.08 and 2.09. Secret Santa Snowdown was part of our Christmas even and was held completely parallel to competition 2.17. Finalists of Trick and Treat also received a Candy prize.
Miscellaneous Observations & Stats
- Hunter received their first winning card (albeit a dual-class card with Warrior), Blood in the Water. Hunter was the final class to get a winning card, being the only class without any winning cards in season 1.
- This is also only the second card in all of our WCDCs to finish with a score of 4.00 or higher.
- We had our first exact tie this season in Summoned Skill with MathU and Grumpymonk both finishing with a score of exactly 3.44118. Grim Tutor would feature a combination of ideas from both winners.
- Incidentally, Grumpymonk would go on to win Grim Tutor.
- Coincidentally, Grumpymonk was also part of the second tie winner of this season in Original Character, Do Not Steal.
- There were a total of only four competitions this season where the leading card of round 1 did not win the finals voting.
- This is a contrast to season 1 where round 1 positions during the finals often meant nothing.
- Storm Claws is the first collectible weapon to make it to the Winner's Gallery.
- Sturdy Quarterback is the first collectible Neutral card to win a competition.
- Sinth is the first person to win two competitions in a row.

A big THANK YOU to the team behind these competitions! I have started as a complete newbie to custom card design with season 1 and now this is my favorite part of the whole site. As far as I know I haven't missed a single competition and I don't intend to change that. This wouldn't be the case if not for our great community full of people who are eager to help each other out and get better at card design. Please don't make the break last too long!
On a sidenote, I'm a bit sceptical about bigger comps because it will be hard to keep people around once the first phase is over, but then I have yet to take part in one of these and the team will surely come up with some good ideas. That said, if there should be a class design competition, I'd be very excited to see an epic battle between linkblade's Alraune class and Demon's Time Traveller class :D
They wouldnt be able to use their classes they made already tho 😉 we could try to do some ultimate battle between custom classes tho 😁 will have to think about that.

I wish everyone luck for the next season! I was busy for the last couple of weeks so the most I could do was vote, and it seems like that happened to be the same for a lot of people as participation was down, especially in the final weeks. Hopefully more people join in during Season 3.
I had this thought since the end of the last season, but what do you think about having a Card of the Season? The community could vote on the winning card(s) for each comp in Season 2 and crown a winner. It would work just like the voting and finalist phase each week. I think it would give people a chance to look at past winners and decide which one they like the most. The same could be done for Season 1.
The problem with that idea is that all the cards were designed around different parameters and restrictions that comparing them to each other is very strange.
I hold onto my lead for a second Season...I've got to step it up if that is to continue *nervous laughter*
Congrats to all the winners! Hopefully we'll see you back for Season 3. Until then, maybe give some other Fan Creation projects a look, like griffior's Death Knight class, shatterstar1998's Detective, or my Alraune class :)
