In a leak from Windows Central, we've got news on the mini set that is coming to Hearthstone very soon! Keep in mind that this is leaked content and could be subject to change.
- The Darkmoon Faire Mini Set arrives on January 21.
- Dual-class cards and Spellburst are both returning mechanics.
- A bundle will be available for $15 (or 2000 Gold) that contains all 35 new cards which includes 4 new Legendaries.
- Two new heroes and minions are being added to Battlegrounds on January 21.
- A new hero power and three treasures are being added for each class to Duels on January 21.
- Anduin's Book of Heroes chapter releases on February 2.
The release of Anduin next contradicts our datamined release order of the Book of Heroes adventure, so we're not entirely certain if that means Malfurion switched spots with our young friend or if the rest of the release order is completely unknown.
Because the article will likely be taken down due to an embargo clearly being broken, here's the full article. Thanks to Saejis for bringing this to our attention.
Quote From Windows Central Blizzard is expanding on the collection of cards in its digital CCG Hearthstone by releasing a new Darkmoon Races mini-set on January 21. All 35 cards will be available within packs of the Madness at the Darkmoon Faire expansion, which released in November.
Darkmoon Races will mark the return of mechanics first introduced in Ashes of Outland and Scholomance Academy such as dual-class cards and Spellburst, which triggers a powerful effect the next time the player casts a card. Players who want to get all of them can pick up a bundle through May 11 for $15 or 2,000 Gold which includes one of each of the set's four legendaries and two of all the other cards.
January 21 will also bring updates to the Battlegrounds system, introducing two new heroes and minions. Darkmoon Races will be added to Duels games the same day and players will have access to a new hero power and three new treasures.
On February 2, Hearthstone will launch a new single-player campaign focused on Prince Anduin of Stormwind. The fifth chapter in the game's Book of Heroes series is free to play and will show how Anduin learned to wield both holy magic and a sword as he traveled throughout Azeroth. Players who complete the campaign will receive a pack of cards for the Priest class.

It's like an adventure without the adventure for less price. I didn't like adventures at all, be forced to play it to get the cards, meh. So I like it!
Dont forget you can craft before rotate to wild this time. No avenge/risky skipper for for 80/200 dust worth of cards need 2800 gold cause cant craft them.
This seems like a very reasonable approach to selling these minisets (costs less than a traditional adventure mini expansion like Galakrond's Awakening, and lacks solo content), and overall I'm very happy with it. But for anyone who has been saving up packs and is now instead going to buy the cards this way, saving the packs feels kind of dumb in retrospect. There's no loss of value, of course, but you could have had that value earlier...
I'm not complaining, mind you, I'm just hoping that they get the kinks worked out on how they want the game's economy to work with all of these new features (the revamped rewards track, the standardization of a mini-expansion, etc.) so that this becomes predictable for future expansions.
I've been opening all my packs as soon as I got them, whether they are Classic or DMF. I've got almost 7k gold, and I figured I could just buy a few packs when the mini-set came out. Now if this happens to be true, I'll just throw down 2k gold, and hope I have a good amount left for the next full expansion.
Hoarding packs for the mini-expansion was always kind of dumb, though. The no-duplicates rule was always going to allow you to get the new stuff with minimal gold expenditure anyway.
Still need Darkmoon cards? Open your packs and fill out your collection.
Don't need Darkmoon cards? It doesn't matter that you've saved them; they are dust either way.
I don't think it's as simple as "still need DMF vs don't" in terms of saving packs. You will typically collect every common and rare in a set after about 50 packs, but you still need way more cards than that to have a complete collection. We can expect a lot of rares and commons in the set (based on Galakrond's Awakening). After that ~50 packs, you start getting duplicate commons and rares whose dust value is way less than the cost to craft them.
But if you save your packs and wait until the mini-set comes out, some of those commons and rares that would have been worth very little go back up to fully value. Now, commons and rares don't cost a ton to craft, so maybe it's not enough dust to care about it, but there's clearly a stark difference in terms of value.
I have around 20 packs from ladder rewards and choose a champion, I saved them so I can get the rares from miniset and potentially save gold for next expansion. How is that dumb if we didn't know that we can buy all cards later?
To be fair, it requires a lot of packs to collect all the legendaries.
I agree 100%, meisterz39. Lack of clarity and transparency don't allow us to properly manage our resources and collection. I've also been hoarding packs...
I agree, because having packs and not opening them feels wrong.
I know right - and I don't want to craft epics/legendaries because I've not opened my packs yet and would just be reducing the pool of good cards I can open.
But if the leak is real and only need to wait a few days then it will be an unexpected bonanza of legendaries from packs! increase in my pity timer :P
Until this is all said officially I'd still hold onto those packs. Besides, there is nothing dumb about making a rational decision based on the knowledge available at the time.
This is exactly LIKE an adventure, you used to pay 2700 gold to get about the same number of cards but you'd get single player missions and have to earn all the cards by playing those missions.
This is just the same without the extra content, though the hall of heroes does have some single player missions trickling in.
I'm fine with it.
You can even just open normal packs from dark moon faire and not pay the 2000 gold to instantly get all the new cards. (though the chances at getting the 4 legends wont be high)
I have a bunch of DF unopened packs. I assume that if I open them after Jan 21st I will get the new cards ... all the common / rare and a couple of epic. Correct ?
Yup, the packs should contain new cards, as this is considered part of DMF, not a separate set - at least, if you don't but the bundle. If you buy the bundle, you will already have all the cards and duplicate protection should protect you from getting any more until you have all cards from a given rarity. Then you may get more.
So if you have all the commons, rares, and epics from DMF already and don't buy the bundle, then yes: all the packs you open should contain new cards - that is, until you have all the new commons (which should be after a few packs already). Then you'll get duplicate commons again, but any rares and epics should still be new until you have collected them all too (rares should also happen rather quickly).
Still getting all the legendaries from the mini-set would probably require ~80 packs even if you already have all the regular legendaries from DMF. So if the leak is correct, it looks much more attractive to get the bundle.
Tbh i don't know if I have to believe this, it's so not Blizz to do it like this.
Awaiting and then will see if i am wrong.
If it is like this, then
Assuming the cards are playable (which is probably very likely), all the cards for $15 or 2000 gold is great. Unfortunately, such a system probably won't work for the normal expansion, since the pricing and value of the cards & packs will vary and create problems amongst players. Maybe they can instead sell specific sets of cards, like $10 for all the legendaries of the set (the price chosen was random, I just picked some number)?
Also, we haven't yet gotten a solo adventure this expansion. Are they being put on hold until Book of Heroes is finished or are we not getting one for DMF at all?
Probably the first one, although I am not sure as I can't see in the future.
A new single player campaign is sadly not part of the Roadmap, which is really a shame because I really liked them.
If this news is true, then I need to immediately open my saved DMF packs to avoid getting the duplicates of the miniset (just in case if the system doesn't mark the cards from miniset bundle as owned).
