You can draw this with Barak Kodobane and have a 2 mana 4/4 with rush at turn 6 which is a huge tempo swing.
From crab to scorpion, to...lizard? Like that's a jump you dont see everyday.
The effect is somewhat underwhelming mostly because Tundra Rhino is no longer standard. Strangely, this is one card that's decent at the start, and gets progressively iffy as it upgrades, mostly due to the fact that hunters dont tend to last until the late game.
To me its Lock and Load fodder. 2 mana summon a 2/2 or a 4/4 rush and generate a random hunter card is about as good it can get with this card.
It's pretty weak at 2 mana but becomes a pretty decent curve filler at 5 and 10 mana. You don't use this as the main play in your turn but as an extremely mana efficient way of filling your turn later into the game. Let's say you throw a Guardian Animals at 10 mana. Instead of just using the Hero Power, you can summon a 6/6 rush to complement the initial board swing. This is just theoretical, of course. There's no guarantee that Hunter will be able to play a deck with slow cards but things will change a lot for the class as it can no longer rely on its usual burn strategies to close out games anymore.
What?
Tamed Crab is evolving!
Ok, the scorpion kinda makes sense. They both have cIaws and an exoskeIeton. But how do you get a LlZARD from there? Ugh, this is Dragonite aII over again!
It's also not a regular lizard. It's THUNDER LIZARD! That's one hell of a tame.
I want to like this, but I also feel like those first 4 turns where this is so mediocre really hurt the chances for this card.
Ah, between this and Condemn (Rank 1), I think I see what Blizzard is doing with these upgradable cards. A 2/2 Rush on turn 2 is wonderful sometimes, but not consistently enough to include in your deck. A 4/4 Rush on turn 5 and a 6/6 Rush on turn 10 are likewise potentially great but inconsistent. But if you have all three of those options in a single card? Well, maybe then it is consistent enough to include after all!
This seems like a clever design approach. This card is never the strongest, but it’s also not going to be a dead draw if you get it on the wrong turn. Hopefully this helps the game focus more on efficient use of the right tools at the right time, rather than a race to draw your OP cards before your opponent does.
Wonder if they're trying to reign in power creep with this expansion. I hope so actually. It has to be done at some point. When classic is rotating as well is the perfect time.
A dwarven hunter, a draenai priest, and a night elf(?) DH in Kurtrus? Things are looking pretty rosy for my mercenary predictions (mercenary-character-speculation), and those 3 were the least secure!
Love the art on this one!
Another weak hunter card. Is blizzard trying to kill the class?
This is basically just a removal card. I don't see what else you would use it for. A 4/4 on turn 5 is pretty meh.
Maybe there will be good beast synergy with this card or something to do with summoning beast. Like a beast version of Khadgar
I mean it's super cheap and you can also throw Dire Frenzy on this for like 6 mana for a max of 9/9 stats with rush that shuffles 3 more copies of this into your deck.
I would like it better if it was deal 2/4/6
a 2 mana 4/4 on turn 5 isn't too crazy. Paladin has a 3 mana 4/2 with a divine shield that you can get back on it.
As for dire frenzy on turn 10 it would shuffle 6 cost 9/9 beast with rush maybe that's decent but there's better options
The rank 2 would give you 4 mana 7/7's with rush and that would be on turn 6 that sounds kinda decent. Turn 6 7/7 but paladin has a 5 mana 8/8 with Blessing of Authority
The base form of Tame Beast is obviously pretty meh, but "2 mana deal 4 to a minion" is a very fair card, and "2 mana deal 6 to a minion" is really good. Add in the potential to have a damaged minion left over afterwards and you've got a very strong card.
This card isn't great unless they are going to reveal a good card that synergizes with this. Deal 6 is obviously good but you have to wait until turn 10.
Lock and Load seems like the only reason to play this.
bah ... a two mana slot can be used in lot of better ways ...
I really hope the minion tokens change to match the card art as the ranks go up
They do! We'll have images up in a few
